Citalopram and gerd

Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram and gerd

celexa

I started Citalopram 2 weeks ago, and I am now taking 5 - 10mg propanolol in the mornings only, and my heart rate goes from 50 to 130. It's crazy. I had an EKG done when it was in the 50"s and they said it was ok. They too never said anything about an interaction but I read it online there was. Anyways, I would just advise you watch your pulse or if you feel unusually tired/dizzy then check it. If your hr is low, then lower your Toprol, and contact your Dr. Good luck.
I just got put on some lexapro for my anxiety and citalopram and that feeling for not being able to breath has gone away and the the stabbing pain is dulling down. I think that my panic disorder could have been a major cause in all of the. P.S. I took a beano before I ate my mac and cheese today and no burning just a small fart :P Hopefully this is all I needed and that things continue to get better and no back sliding at all!!!
then i went to my primary care doctor he also diagnosed me with anxiety.. so im taking welbutrin, citalopram, trazodone, and xanax for when i have a serious panic attack. which i believe that i do have anxiety and panic disrder, HOWEVER i have been short of breathe for about two months.. I cant seem to finish deep breathes and yawns.. its like my lungs just fill up really quickly and i feel like im not getting enough oxygen but my oxygen levels are fine..
While I am not on any DMD, I am on Tegretol, Elavil, Citalopram for my MS symptoms. I am on Spireva, Symbicort, Singulair and Ventolin for my COPD and Asthma and Prevacid and Lipitor for GERD and high cholesterol. I also take Amitriptyline for fatigue related to MS. Has anyone else had trouble with protein or calcium deficiency that has been proven related to any meds?
As soon as I get into a place I get so dizzy and my vision is all messed up. I get so hot and sweaty and my heart races. I want my life back. I still dont believe that its just anxiety causing all of this. I feel like I have something else wrong that the doctors cant find even though i have had bloodwork, mri, ekg, and they were all normal. I started taking .25mg of xanax once a day. still dont feel any better yet. So if anybody has any help please give it to me.

I was wondering if anxiety can cause my chest pain off and on during the week. also i am on citalopram and xanax (when i need it), are those medications okay to take or are they harmful in the long run.
For the past 5-6 weeks, I've been having numbness/tingling in my arms, hands and legs and feet. I've also had tingling in the face area.........mouth and tongue. My eyes sometimes feel itchy as sometimes my skin. I've had headaches and felt light-headed. Sometimes my face gets flushed and so do my arms, like I'm burning under my skin. My finger joints feel sore. I can't hold a book or magazine and turn the pages, my hands and fingers feel sore.
She smiled and looked at the nurse in the room and said actually no I don't think your crazy and I (she) just had a big seminar about it with the doctors around town. She said it is directly related to the hormones in a womens cycle. That's not to say it can't happen at other times of the month. There are "triggers as she said. Caffein, alcohol and so forth. I felt better. I take medicine for it and sometime right before my cycle starts I have to take more because it can get so bad.
ive been taking asacol 800mg for collitus im also on omeprazole 20mg,calcium,magnesium with vitamin D3 and due to severe panic attacks been on citalopram 20 mg for just under one week im constantly light headed and my panic attacks are not much better ...am I taking to many mg of medication? However, he said it could NOT be causing me so much pain. He checked out my arm and noticed a hard soft tissue knot, and suggested removing it through surgery and it "might" relieve my pain. So, 3 weeks ago I had the said surgery and it was removed (a hard soft tissue mass about the size of a marble). No, this was not the cyst inside my humerus bone. Anyways, I still have the pain, and it is extremely terrible at night (on a scale of 1 to 10, a 20 at night).
Reading everyone's concerns on this message board (along with my concerns) I thought it might be a good experiment(and a helpful reference guide for everyone) to list ALL the symptoms they have had and ALL the tests that have come back normal and ALL the specialists they have seen that have concluded that it was all anxiety. If you can put it in a LIST FORM with no back story so it is easy to reference that would be great.
i.m dealing with gerd now for 5yrs i was perscripted zantac 150mg meds work really well and with a good eating habits and some exercise after awhile i stop having any acid reflux symptom (i may have nausea every now and then but it came in just as it quickly as it gos away or when hubby ask me to help with his hobbys. it will stay till he stop asking...
Husband has spells where he gets a build up of sinus drainage, then starts coughing very deeply, he turns bright red and passes out and shakes like he is having ceasures. He has spent 6 days in a VA Hospital, with them running a battery of tests and they never actually diagnosed the problem. He has a nebulizer the sent home with him and albeutrol solution for the neb. (uses 4 times a day with the albeuterol) , also has proventil rescue inhaler, and a ton of different medications.
Attacks could last minutes or hours and any combination of symptoms would happen. And in between attacks, my heart would regularly do many strange things - tachy, brady, irregular rhythm, extremely forceful beats, 'flip-flopping' feelings, etc. I also sometimes experienced a sensation of the heart stopping and restarting - immediately after the restart I would feel a MASSIVE, uncomfortable surge of adrenaline and the heart would beat very fast for a little while.
I have been to about 30 doctors- including ENT's allergists, neurologists, chiropracters, opthamologists. psychologists, dentists and everything else u can think of. All CT scans, MRI of brain and blood work keep coming back clean and ok. Nothing I try seems to work. There was a period of time about 3 and a half years ago that the symptoms lifted for about 4 months and then it returned full force.
I've been given Atenolol for the palps etc... and Citalopram for the anxiety, however, I am worried about taking the Citalopram because side effects inlcude tachycardia and anxiety before they start to work. I have also been given Mirtazapine to take instead of Citalopram, that has a more tranquilising effect and you have to take it at night. I am waiting to see if it is compatible with Atenolol and am seeing my GP about it this week.
i had a rash around my neck and my oxygen saturation was low. i arrived at the hospital and was put into re suss and given adrenaline by injection and i was given prednisone. i was given oxygen and i recovered well, spent the next few days in hospital recovering. This would never have happened if my doctor had not prescribed me to medication at once. I feel lucky to be alive as later the ambulance officer and he said he thought i was a goner.
I would recommend going to the doctor and at the very least asking for an ultrasound scan (to look for stones) and a HIDA/CCK. You might also want to ask about an upper endoscopy to check for GERD and any other possible causes for your acid reflux (such as hiatal hernias). So to answer your question, yes, it sounds like it could definitelly be heartburn related. - The lack of bile could cause food to stay in the stomach for too long, causing heartburn and indigestion.
Latest developments are that my doctor has put me on 4 week course of citalopram 10mg, and reluctantly diagnosed me with IBS. I'm not 100% convinced. Had adverse reaction to meds within first 2 weeks. Couldn't take nausea feeling after week 3 so stopped taking. Nausea was and still is consistent whilst taking citalopram or not. Chest pains feel they are related to nerve pain? Can feel sharp tingley pain similar to that of a pinched nerve in lft arm...
Right now im having a lot of issues because of the bulimia, so im on other meds to help with that (pain killers, acid reduction, stool softener and something else for my stomach for gerd). I also, unfortunatly, have an addiction to deuretic and lazatives, which doesnt help. But still, I feel so much better being off the seroquel.
It would be interesting to find out how many people are on more than one medication for their mental health. I am currently on 3 medications, Depakote and Lithium for my BP and Zopiclone to aid sleep. I realise this is a very basic poll as it does not show how many different types of mental health problems are being experienced but depending on the response this could lead to a further poll about diagnosis etc.
I have been having GERD and gastritis pretty steady for 1 1/2 years. I am 40, 5' 7", 165, female. I've been on meds for a year: Reglan 4x/day 10mg ea, Omeprizole 2x/day 40 mg ea, & Gaviscon. Due to feeling anxious and depressed (first time EVER in my life for depression) last November, I am also on Citalopram. I take Zyrtec everyday and a multivitamin. I am living with severe financial & job stress for a few years now.
However I am concerned as I suffer from high blood pressure and racing heartbeat and now I am afraid to take the Lexapro as I fear its going to worsen my not so good blood pressure and heart rate. Is this a valid cause for concern?  I DONT want higher blood pressure and heart rate.  Should I continue taking the Xanax as prescribed if I dont wish to take the lexa? Also is it possible to just medicate myself on Xanax and skip the antidepressants altogether!?
Hi Tramadol Warriors! Welcome to Part 53. This thread is full of helpful and kind people who want to help you get off this terrible drug. Please snuggle in and make yourself comfy. I know you can do it!
It doesn't seem to be an issue with the Doc's, but then again their view point is that if there's a problem, lets just try something else. I don't want extra drugs screwing with me! Maybe I should stop the Xanax? Soon I may have to start on the Procrit...How much can a lab rat take? I'm already taking six Riba's a day, 12 blue BOC pills, Interferon, gerd medication, three Lovanza for high Trig, and the Xanax: so sick of pills!
I don't know if you gave it a good trial or not-- I would have picked citalopram myself, as it has fewer side effects, and for all the medications you really need to take them at least a couple months at a good dose before giving them up. The chemical changes in the brain caused by SSRIs and SNRIs are NOT what eases depression and anxiety; the important thing is the changes in neuronal growth that occurs weeks after the meds were started.
You can follow my suggestions if you feel that your passing trough something similar but basically I'm almost sure you have GERD and this triggers your ANXIETY and PANIC ATTACKS. Stay calm, get rid of bad feelings and thoughts and analyze your lifestyle you might need to make some changes. Blessings!
I was also dx'd with Barretts, Gerd and a couple of others which the doc ascribed to hcv but I'm still not totally convinced. Different docs have different approaches on when to treat. I had hcv for about 30 years before I was diagnosed and never had any significant cage-rattling symptoms. After all the investigative steps, turns out I had early cirrhosis so treatment decision was a no-brainer. Not to scare or alarm, but not being bothered by hvc does not equate to not being affected by it.
Then, I was so desperate, I entered my medication into a site called mediguard, and a contr-indication came up for some of my tablets, I take Citalopram for depression and a stomach protecter called Omelprazole as I take painkillers for arthritis. The Omeprazole makes the Citalopram (for depression) too concentrate and result can be excessive sweating, heart racing and feeling exhausted.
