Citalopram and blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram and blood pressure

lexapro

Avatar n tn I had a similar experience with Celexa, which is a very similar drug (celexa is citalopram, lexapro is escitalopram). I also had low blood pressure (78/58 at one point), and worsening depression, which really wasn't helpful since that's what I was taking it for. I was only on it for 4 weeks though...
Avatar m tn After he gave me the results of the echocardiogram(perfectly healthy heart and normal for my age) i got blood pressure readings of 110/60 in his office. He took me off the blood pressure meds and prescribed me citalopram. I am now on 20mgs of citalopram and 0.25mg clonazepam. I however still feel my pulse all the time, all over my body. And everytime i go to check my blood pressure i have an anxiety attack.
Avatar f tn We decided the dr and I to try a baby dose of citalopram this time and see if it would help. Because I am at a different place now than I was back then. So I have taken 8 doses of the xanax so far which has been half a pill every time. My question is my vision was blurry to me before I started on the meds. I went to the eye Dr because I felt like I was going blind and still feel that way.
Avatar f tn I was on Lithium for almost 2 yrs and I can tell you it can certainly screwup your sex drive. I went from 20-30 minutes of bliss to 10 minutes of strain too. The longer you take it the less you will care if you ever have sex again. I am obsessive about sex and my dr had to take me off of it so I went to Risperdal. It was a nice alternative after the transfer period. It kept the voices from getting me nuts.
1131131 tn?1275108488 Common side effect when starting are nausea and dizziness. High blood pressure, sweating, tremors, shaking are definitely a bad reactions and might also occur with a SNRI. You can try but i think this bad reaction can be avoided with Lyrica or Neurotin but who knows, you could have a bad reaction too but they mechanisms of action are totally different from the SNRIs and SSRIs. Please consider that I'm not a doctor nor a pharmacist and those issues must be discussed with you doctor.
Avatar f tn The combination of drugs, citalopram that is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor and amphetamine and dextroamphetamine that are dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor is not recommended. Amphetamines may possess serotonergic activity and should not be administered with SSRIs as there is an additive risk of serotonin syndrome. Enhanced sympathomimetic effects is possible.
Avatar n tn Glad to know thought it was sign of stroke because of the numbness but my heart is good and blood pressure already went to the doctor.
15256956 tn?1439425231 Let me get this straight. You have a psychiatrist who took you off an antidepressant in just one week? And isn't dealing with the withdrawal problem? The minimum taper should have been six weeks from my experience. You also should research Buspar. See if you think it actually works much of the time. And if your anxiety is related to the heart problem, the beta blocker should theoretically at least have solved that problem.
732401 tn?1231613448 I'm 24, since Dec. 14th I've been having lightheadedness and nausea and I've went in to the hospital twice for palpitations and anxiety. I finally saw my primary doctor who told me that its was because my high blood pressure medication 40mg LISINORIL and 25mg HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE was giving me low blood pressure.(I went off my medication late Oct. cause I started working out alot with a trainer and didn't get back on till Dec. 21st.) So I have to cut my meds in half.

Avatar m tn t take) The next day i went to work and was fine, however i got anxious about what had happened the night before and i decided to go home and see my family doctor. I went through all the blood tests and another ekg. Everything came back fine except my ekg said "borderline sinus tachycardia with possible biatrial enlargement" My BP at the doctors office was also around 160/70 with a pulse around 155 I was put on diuretic and ace inhibitor until the results of my echocardiogram.
1469430 tn?1289618090 I'm obsessed with my blood pressure. I can make it go up and down. And while anxious, I can make it go up to dangerous levels. My doctor prescribed citalopram and clonazepam (for short term and as needed while the celexa starts working). I'm afraid to go on a long term medication like celexa, but I'm wondering if I'm being too presumptuous in thinking I can get over this myself. The anxiety only started two weeks ago, and I feel like it's mild.
1082697 tn?1260064616 I have been to doctor with all sorts of things and had blood tests and ultrasound scans. All clear. Now to have a CT scan. I ask myself, is it all in my head? The pains are real enough. So is the nausea and dizziness and the loss of appetite, but all could be symtoms of depression. I once had strong pain killers that brough on depression. Best to get it all looked at though. Can't help being like this. Well done if you think you are able to quit smoking.

Avatar f tn I gained about 30 lbs on Citalopram. I work out and eat healthy. I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!
Avatar m tn The half life of the medication in the system is 35 hours....probably not show any traces after a week..
Avatar n tn I think you will be fine, here is what I found on it: " Citalopram is the generic for Celexa and has an average half-life of approx 35 hrs, which means that it takes that long on average for the level in your blood stream to drop to half its initial value. On that basis, the level in your system would be approx 1/2 its initial value after 1 1/2 days and 1/4 its initial value after 3 days and so on.
Avatar n tn It is prescribed for many reasons, high blood pressure, anxiety, cluster headaches, and tremors. It does have a break-in period, and low energy, and sleepiness are part of the break-in period, which can take up to 6 weeks. I have never heard of it being prescribed for depression, but rather anxiety. I think she needs to return to her doctor to re-evaluate this medication. She is in a rough situation, to be 75 and having to care for your father, I can understand her depression.
1139941 tn?1260913035 Depression is itself considered a risk factor for some diseases, and physical ailments such as headaches, high blood pressure, digestive disorders and chronic pain are often associated with depression...but how depression affects the body is still not well understood.
1305597 tn?1275336446 Another medication in its family is venlafaxine (Effexor) and it CAN cause weight gain, and large increases in blood pressure.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have been taking Effexor XR 150mg for 5 years now for severe panic disorder. My blood pressure has been giving me a fit lately, and my doctor noticed where Effexor can cause higher blood pressures. Today, he switched me from Effexor to Celexa, which is good because I was never completely happy with Effexor anyway. However, he said that I can stop the Effexor cold turkey and go straight to the Celexa. Is this correct?
Avatar m tn m also on citalopram. I was on 20 mg. for quite sometime. I had started to drink heavily and then I was getting vertigo sensations even during the day when I was sober. I'd have the swaying and feeling like I'm falling or sinking sensations. Then one week I started having severe anxiety and panic attacks. My doctor upped my citalopram to 40 mg and my anxiety isn't as bad but I still get the vertigo feeling even though I stopped drinking.
1767754 tn?1313873884 I have went to an ENT, neurologist, cardiologist. I have had scans, x-rays, numerous blood tests, ultra sounds of my heart and thoat and a tilt table. I go in a few weeks for an EEG. No one has told me that it is caused by anxiety but given this to calm me down. I have been bed reden for almost 3 months now and on a high sodium diet, wanting me to take 450mg salt pills 3 times a day. I am scared of the side effects since it says if you have low sodium you shouldnt take. What should I do?
Avatar n tn Combining Alprax and Citalopram can cause central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. Please discuss with your doctor for alternate medications. In the meantime, I would strongly caution you not to drive or operate heavy machinery while on these medications as you might injure yourself or others. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I have high blood pressure and have been but on Lisinopril and also take a small dose of citalopram for anxiety. Has anyone else experienced any of these symptoms? Im starting to feel crazy... all the tests come back normal.
