Ciprofloxacin gonorrhea treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Ciprofloxacin gonorrhea treatment

cipro

Avatar n tn My questions are now 1) Are these treatments effective so soon after potential exposure or do I have to wait and see if I get symptoms and then repeat the treatment? 2) Will these treatments generally cure Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and Syphills or do I need others?
Avatar m tn Cioprofloxacin does treat gonorrhea and as your symptoms cleared you can be confidant that the treatment was successful. Wait a week or so and get retested just to be 100% sure that the treatment was effective.
Avatar n tn ) Is it safe to assume that regardless of whether it turns out to be Chlamydia or Gonorrhea, that this one prescription is a general treatment that will fully cure both? (I'd hate to take this for days and then find out I'm on the wrong pill.) And if this is the appropriate treatment, will it really take the full 20 days? I was just hoping to get back to normal before that! Thanks for the advice.
Avatar n tn As you point out, an increasing proportion of gonorrhea is now resistant to ciprofloxacin and related antibiotics. As a result, it is no longer recommended for therapy. The CDC's treatment guidelines are meant to provide about a 97% cure rate for persons treated as recommended. Your treatment, while likely to have cured you, may have also transformed it from a symptomatic infection to an asymptomatic one. Recommended treatment for gonorrhea in the U.S.
Avatar m tn Hi you really need to talk to your doc about this but if you had gono you would have a big time white puss discharge not watery and pretty much the same fo chlamydia and uretha itching
Avatar n tn No, the ciprofloxacin was proably given in case you had gonorrhea (some people use if for this). As you point out, ciprofloxacin is not recommended for NGU. The antibiotics you took should be out of your system 10 dyas after taking the azithromycin. The cipro will be out at that time as well.
Avatar n tn The doctor give me ciprofloxacin 750 mg twice a day for 10 days. He try to find any discharge for testing but he cannot find any. He make a culture urine test. I did not receive the result. This is the 3rd day in treatment I didn't see any discharge but still have burn in my pines and under my abdominal. Is this the right Treatment? As I didn't see any discharge is this mean I'm cure from gonorrhea? Do I need to change the Medicine even if I don't have discharge only pain?
Avatar m tn I suspect the antibiotics you got initially were ceftriaxone (the shot) plus azithromycin (the 4 pills) which is highly effective treatment for gonorrhea. There have not been proven treatment failures to this regimen here in the U.S. I do not know why your doctor gave you the ciprofloxacin on top of your initial medications. This (ceftriaxone plus azithromycin) is the optimal treatment for gonorrhea, worldwide.
Avatar m tn In any case, with the medication taken above with the ciprofloxacin for 10 days. Would I be covered for chlamydia, gonorrhea, trich? Should I ask for those tests when I go back for the for the followup or would the antibiotics really skew the results? Am I just overreacting?
Avatar n tn Symptoms disappeared almost immediately. Swab test came back negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Blood test also returned negative. On day 8, I experienced a return of symptoms. Very warm sensation behind and (seemingly) in the testicles. Also a thin discharge and frequent urination. Testicles remained warm (and very low hanging) but not as warm as on day 8. Urologist prescribed Cipro (250mg 2x/day 10 days). Did not alleviate the symptoms.
Avatar f tn I took ciprofloxacin 5 days,6th day nothing ,azythromycin 500 mg on 7th day, azythromycin 250 mg on the 8th day,9th day nothing and than 15 days doxycyline twice a day.I am feeling way better ,the symptoms are gone but i am still worried.Do you think the STD is gone?P.S.sometimes a feel a slight pain on testicles and i’ve been mastrubating frequently past two weeks.
Avatar n tn Someone posted on this site that Azithromycin will not cure Gonorrhea, however I read on the Pfizer web site that it will cure gonorrhea and chlamydia. So my question is, will a 2 gram dose of Azithromycin cure both Gonorrhea and Chlamydia.
Avatar n tn Testing for STDs for you is important. The cipro given you is no longer a recommended treatment for gonorrhea. Erythromycin 500 mg 4 times a day for 7 days would be effective for the chancroid and the chlamydia. But neither cipro nor erythromycin are indicated for the treatment of syphilis. Testing for Hiv in 6 weeks also may be a good idea. So to answer your question for advice on treatment. I would seek a physician or health care provider that follows the CDC recommended guideline.
Avatar m tn My guess is that this is another name for ciprofloxacin, a medication which will cure most but not all gonorrhea (some strains are resistant). If you got gonorrhea and the ciprofloxacin did not cure it, you will most likely develop a discharge from your penis in short order (a few days). 3. I'm not sure what this is but yes, you should always tell doctors what other medications you've taken. 4. See above- probably 5. No.
Avatar m tn I have a really wierd discharge from my penis after successful Chlamydia treatment. During the first round of Chlamydia treatment, azithromycin didn't work according to my retest, so I took Doxycycline and according to the results from the test last Saturday- I am now free and clear of both Chlamydia and Gonarrhea. However, I have this new type of discharge that happens in the morning. The discharge appears similar to semen but it can't be. Urination is painful.
Avatar f tn Hi! 4 weeks ago, a prostitute gave me oral sex without a condom and I finished in her mouth. I felt a little discomfort during the next days and in the fifth night I noticed a whitish discharge from the tip of my penis. I went to the doctor the very next day and he thought it could be gonorrhea, although the discharge was there only one time and I had no test.
Avatar n tn Hello, After my research on internet (01/11/09), I learned that I got infected by Gonorrhea after receiving unprotected oral sex from my partner who had Tonsil throat infection. The symptoms (penile discharge, burning sensation, frequent need to urine) started about 3 days after the act and upon describing the symptoms to my Dr.
Avatar m tn m sure you can safely stop the ciprofloxacin (ciprofloxacin was the wrong treatment for NGU anyway). As uncomfortable the symptoms have been for you, there will be no lasting harm. Thanks again for your question. Let me know if anything isn't clear.
Avatar m tn Do you think he is doing the right thing? Also i have heard the recommended treatment for gonorrhea is now dual medicine treatment in which (Ceftriaxone 250 mg IM + Azithromycin 1g in a single dose) should be given. Should i talk to my doctor about this recommended treatment?
Avatar n tn I did not have any more sex with my wife and on Monday started treatment with a single one pill of 500mg Ciprofloxacin and Doxcyycline 100mg twice a day for 7 days. I am on day 2 of the treatment (self administered) and for the moment I have not experienced any kind of discharge. I am aware of psicological symptoms but I really feel I caught something which has a short incubation time (Gonorrhea ?). My questions are: If infected, would I have transmitted the disease within 14 hours ?
Avatar m tn Cipro is no longer a recommended treatment for gonorrhea. Call your doctor. Have him look at the CDC website for the recommended treatment. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Last year I contracted Gonorrhea from my boyfriend and was treated and then tested...it was cured. He had no symptoms, went to be tested--test was neg so he did not take antibiotics (I was under the impression he did!). Fast forward to 1 week ago, I began having the same symptoms, I went to a different Dr. out of embarresment who gave me a Rx for 500mg twice a day of Ciprofloxacin. I took this for 4 days and all the while getting worse, so I called the Dr.
Avatar n tn Dear doctor, I returned from a trip to Asia in late November where I had had protected vaginal and unprotected oral sex with female CSWs. While there I was taking ciprofloxacin and azithromycin 500 mg daily for prophylaxis. Two days after returning, I noticed mild burning on urination, and next day there was a clear to slightly yellow discharge, in small amounts.
Avatar m tn The doctor we saw diagnosed almost certain gonorrhea and perscribed ciprofloxacin 500mg in one go to be repeated 24hrs later. Also gave us Zithromax 1g in one go, for three days, to cover chlamydia. 20 hours after the first medicine, however, my penis still burns when peeing and the tip is very red round the opening (wasn't before...).Should the symptoms have gone by now? How long does the medicine take to work? Or could the diagnose be wrong?
Avatar m tn Discharge is cleared but lower abdominal pain en testicular pain still there! Today got ciprofloxacin perscribed for a week! Any info would be highly appreciated!!
