Avatar f tn Urinalysis and urine culture are definitive diagnosis of a urinary tract infection. This may respond well to antibiotic management. The choice of drug and length of treatment depend on your medical history and the urine tests that identify the offending bacteria. Many doctors prescribe antibiotics for a week or two to ensure that the infection has been cured. Other tests such as intravenous pyelogram may also be indicated. Take care and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn Hi, although drugs like ciprofloxacin 500mg twice daily is usually recommended for urinary tract infection, but one should go by urine culture sensitivity report. For pain associated with infection drugs like ibuprofen, diclofenac etc are prescribed as they have potent anti inflammatory action. Please follow doctor’s advice and avoid self medication.
Avatar n tn Ive had a urinary tract infection for going on 6 weeks now. Ive been treated over and over and nothing seems to be getting rid of it. I dont have a regular dr so I am relying on trips to the er to help me. I am now so sick with the infection that I am throwing up and am in so much pain. I have a very serious history of kidney stones as well which doesnt help much either. I just had my last stone removed about 3 weeks ago.
Avatar m tn I went to the doctor last week with lower backpains and a tingling sensation when I urinated. I was diagnosed with a prostate infection and given Ciprofloxacin (500mg) for 10 days. I finished the medicine yesterday. The tingling went away and the pains lessened. This morning, my partner and I had sex, I ejaculated, and everything felt fine except that my scrotum was a bit sensitive, but not unbearable. I proceeded to urinate just fine, then there was a blockage in my stream.
Avatar n tn Just over three weeks ago I began experiencing burning in my urinary tract. I thought it would go away, but it persisted and got worse over the next few days. I went to a doctor, and they of course thought it might be an std. They gave me a 'cocktail' of antibiotics, as well as running urinalysis and blood test. A few days later it got very extreme, painful and burning. I went back to see a Dr and he had the test back... normal.

Avatar n tn You may not even have to bring your dog in for an exam if the urine is positive for a simple urinary tract infection (an infection without crystals). The vet can simply give appropriate antibiotics. If your dog has crystals in his urine, the crystals would need to be identified and treatment instituted. Crystals can be dangerous in male dogs because if they become large enough they can become lodged in the urethra and cause blockage (even in dogs, though more common in male cats).

Avatar m tn I was prescribed ciprofloxacin to treat what might be suspected as prostatitis following the STD. I took ciprofloxacin for approx two months. I had to stop taking ciprofloxacin due to side effects. The symptoms have since continued, and I have almost daily pain in my pelvic floor region. The pain feels like my pelvic floor region is tightening up and pulling the scrotum and penis inwards. Around the anus it feels hot and tight. The whole area feels 'pinched' and sore.
