Ciprofloxacin and uti treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Ciprofloxacin and uti treatment

cipro

Hi, It is possible that the infection has not been eradicated completely. Ciprofloxacin 500mg is prescribed twice daily for at least 5 days for treatment of utis. So please recheck with your doctor if you need to continue the course of antibiotics. Some measures you can undertake to eradicated the infection include: Drinking over 2000cc (8 glasses) of fluids per day, preferrably mor. take tylenol for the pain, every 6-8 hours, but do not continue the tylenol for more than 3 days.
i was then prescribed bactrim for 15days, ciprofloxacin and diclofenac for 10days each. during treatment all the symptoms seemed to disappear but after about 8days again they started resurfacing one after the other. after complete treatment i went back and was given gentamicin injection, flucconazole, and doxycycline . i am on the 6th day of treatment and things seem to be worsening.
I have lots of swelling and redness at the opening of my urethra. I went to urgent care last week to get treatment for a uti and was prescribed cipro (500mg x 2/day x 10days). The doctor said my urine was neg. for a uti but that I could have an issue with my prostate (prostatitis?) I am 47year old male. Next day I went to the eye doctor because my eye is real bad and he ran a test that was pos. for adenovirus. He said it would be 1-2 weeks to clear up.
I have a recurrent uti since almost 8 months, which sometimes gets better but never completely goes away, and then relapses. I have been drinking pleny of water which once again, helps but doesn't eliminate the problem completely. Being on endless courses anti biotics did no good to my condition either. In fact, they weakened my immune system and caused me to get a high fever for around 2 weeks because of which I had to quit taking them as a whole.
after that I got a 10 day treatment of Ciprofloxacin and the symptoms went away and everything was fine. after 1.5 Months later similar symptoms returned but instead of testicle pain it felt that it was more located in the left testicular tube. However the testicle is tender so I would suspect epididymitis. There was also a new symptom which was ear fullness every time i woke up in the morning. I after this got subscribed Ciprofloxacin again but which at this time didn't help at all.
He gave me Ciprofloxacin, into my 4th of 7 day treatment and still have dry white tongue and urinating frequently. Why isn't this clearing up? Is my tongue supposed to be dry and white due to the antibiotic?
I immediately got a morning urine sample and took it to my microbiologist, but she said that after the stick test and careful microscopic inspection there was not a sign of any bacteria, red blood cells, pus cells or anything pathologic, hence no uti present. Since then, the pain comes and goes (there are days I feel pain and days that I don't) and sometimes it's intense reaching up to my navel and sometimes not.
So another week later I went to the health dept who took a dipstick test again and said yes you have a uti and if its not bothering me to try to flush it out with cranberry pills and lots of water. I then began to take pills and water and the burning went away. I felt much better except for this weird feeling in urethra like a tickling spasm thing or urge idk cant really describe it but not painful. I finally went to dr about 3 weeks after intial symptoms.
So there is that connection again between the immune system and flare ups of MS Now ciprofloxacin is an all-purpose antibiotic and the word hasn't yet gotten out. So I tend to see a lot of patients whose MS begins when they're being prescribed something like Cipro. Is this true for the other floxacins? There are cousins of Cipro that are available, there's oxfloxacin and levofloxacin. We're not sure yet, but if I had MS I'd avoid any drug that had the word floxacin in it.
Doctors therefore subscribed me Doxycycline for 1 week which made the symptoms go away but they came back worse directly after the treatment was over. after that I got a 10 day treatment of Ciprofloxacin and the symptoms went away and everything was fine. after 1.5 Months later similar symptoms returned but instead of testicle pain it felt that it was more located in the left testicular tube. However the testicle is tender so I would suspect epididymitis.
You will need to be tested for these two infections and will need to start treatment based on their antibiotic sensitivity. Chlamydia are usually not sensitive to ciprofloxacin and need to be treated with other antibiotics. Ensure that you keep your fluid intake over 2000 ml per day and avoid irritants, such as caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods. Also avoid sitting for long periods of time. You can also add citrus fruits and juices to your diet to help acidify your urine.
July 10- I had unprotected oral outside my marriage, around 7-10 days later I started feeling some pain that sounded like STD symptoms- penis pain in the tip, testicle, burning and "hot" feelings. July- 21 had urine and blood tests, (gono, cly, herps, hiv, ect- ) online service, no dr. appt.
There are several questions here and I am not sure how they relate to one another. Starting with the last question first. Ciprofloxacin can affect your tests and mask infection, particularly chlamydial infection if present. Furthermore, if you are being treated with ciprofloxacin for a possible chlamydial infection, it may be the wrong medication. Ciprofloxacin is NOT recommended for chlamydial treatment although many related medications are.
I had a uti with shooting pain in the upper groin and took 7 days of cipro 80 tablets of cystex, phenylhydrine stuff, 3 days more of cipro and I still have some pain in the groin. Should I continue on the cystex? I've also had numbness in the groin for years now maybe from diabetes... I read that methenamine can be continued long-term and that the dosage is 2 1g tablets a day so could I take 6 tablets of cystex at once with 2000mg vit C?
Any medication is prescribed by a doctor only after knowing the accurate diagnosis. The dosage and duration of treatment can be decided only by your doctor. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. I sincerely hope it helps. Good luck and take care!
You can tell them your situation and that you want minimum testing (a urinalysis and culture) and treatment with the least expensive effective antibiotic. This would be easier at a family doctor's office but I really don't think you should even wait until the morning. Yes, it could be that important. And the longer you put this off, the more extensive and expensive the potential treatment will be. Please do not wait until IV antibiotics and hospitalization are necessary.
Does anybody here know if there are any special concerns with having a uti while on tx and with somewhat low WBC and ANC? I figure I will call an emergency number if my temperature rises above 103, but I just wanted to hear if any of you have had any experience with this. I did check for drug interactions before starting the Cipro, and didn't find problems. Thank you my friends!
For history, I had taken homeopathy treatment (still undergoing) for constant throat infection and recurring stomach problem (like lower abdomen pain and loose motions). In the middle of this treatment, frequent urination problem happened. I am not sure about the cause for it.Homeopathy has been very effective in controlling throat and stomach related issue but has failed when treated for urination problem.
Nitrofurantoin (macrobid) has been prescribed for the treatment of renal cysts and has had good results due to its penetration in renal tissue. However, it is to be taken with food given its tendency to cause gastric bleeding. It is contraindicated in individuals with impaired renal function. Quinolones, such as ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, etc., have been contraindicated for concurrent use due to their unfavorable interaction. Remeber to keep yourself well hydrated while on antibiotics.
I went to Urgent Care and cuture grew E coli and I took Macrobid which did not work and then Cipro. A short time later, pain returned and I went to my PCP and culture grew Strep for which I took Keflex. Still having pain, I had another culture done. This time it grew enterococcus. My doctor game me Ampicillin. I finished the course and went back for culture and it still came back positive for enterococcus.
Between 2006 and 2010 four times more I became that much ill that I needed antibiotics, got both ciprofloxacin and nitrofurantoin, but I react very slow on the last (and I'm allergic to Amoxicilin and the like). I'm having chronic uti, but nowadays, as long as it is not really making me ill, we leave it untreated, just drinking enough, to prevent that the antibiotics will lose effectiveness. However, recently I'm feeling very weak and tired and urine-testl revealed a uti, as expected.
I saw another Dr. and he did a urine test which turned up no uti and said I had epidymitis and gave me Levofloxacin to go along with Doxycicline that an American Dr. said might help over the phone. 14 days later I still have the lump and I have finished the antibiotics. Last night I saw yet another Dr. and he said, after another damn physical exam, I needed MORE antibiotics, and gave me 7 days of Cipro, again, but only 250 mg 2x per day. What should I do?
Please help: six weeks ago I was on a trip and had oral and vaginal sex with a sex worker. It was protected the whole time, except possibly for the beginning where there was hand to penis contact. The same night I started feeling a slight itching and burning sensation, which got worse the next day. Genitals were reddish. I went to see a doctor that prescribed Miconazole cream twice a day and a single Fluconazole pill for candidiasis.
Doctor, I am a 29 year old office worker who eats very healthily has low consumption of alcohol and exercises - I’m in good health. I have one partner for 5 years and always have protected sex. My problem started 8 weeks ago, I woke up with an irritation inside my penis with no discharge, I had not had sex for at least 2-3 wks. The sexual health clinic tested me, I had low white blood count of 5-10 , I had NSU, they gave me a course Azithromycin.
I suffer from panic disorder and have been on a steady dose of Lexapro 10mg and Klonopin 0.25mg for 5yrs. 5months ago I was given Ciprofloxacin and Flagyl for an uti. My girlfriend had them before me and had panic attacks and nervous breakdowns 1 week after treatment.
Alternatively, you can take clindamycin for the bv and drink a boat load of cranberry juice for the uti and water of course. It will take longer to clear up the uti but it should work. It did for me in a pinch. It just took a couple of extra days. Of course if you are diabetic you can't.
I had an appointment set for STD testing in one week (the next Tuesday) but the irritation continued so I called my Family Physician (a family friend) and basically told him I thought I had a bladder infection/uti and that I had not had unprotected sex outside of my relationship. He seemed to not make a huge deal about it and prescribed me a two-a-day regimen of Cipro for 10 days that I started on Tuesday.
I developed a rash on my arms for 2 days in May(6 weeks after) and it went away in 2 days. Also had a uti(blood in the urine) in late June (11 weeks after) and my doctor prescribed CIPRO and it was cleared in a week. Other than these, I did not have any fever, sore throat, penile sore and penile discharge but always feel lightheaded, fatigue, and weakness in the arms and legs. I have not done any testing so far.
These are unlikely given your symptoms. You will get Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) and go home, take it, and your parents ought to be none the wiser -- even if their sitting in the room with you and the doc. I appreciate the implication that you're obliged to be honest with a doctor regarding something so personal. I'm not telling you to regularly lie to doctors or anyone else for that matter.
I went and see a physician he told me u might be affected by uti, chmlyadia or Gonorhea so he gave me medication for seven days the medication consists of antibiotics, and another diatery supplementary called uroMax for healthy bladder and urethra system and he also gave me another alakaline powder to put in glass of water and drink he said this will make my urine more alkaline after 7 days of medication then i waited 2 days but the pain still persist strongly this time during urination and after
