Common Questions and Answers about Cipro side effects uti

cipro

Avatar f tn the ER doc gave me cipro. Wish I would have known then what I know now. Had bad side effects for over a year from it. My belief now is that most UTI's can be cleared up by taking cranberry pills, and flushing out your system with large amounts of fluids. Don't take a drug that is given out for people who have been exposed to anthrax... sigh. Unless you need a drug to stay alive don't take any because our bodies were not made to take them. My thoughts anyway.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Common side effects of ciprofloxacin are stomach pain, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset and restlessness. Rarely it can cause skin sensitivity to sunlight, rash, breathing difficulty etc. Vaginal discharge with odour and back pain are the manifestations of UTI. Since how long are you using ciprofloxacin? Feel free to ask if you have any more doubts. Take care.
Avatar f tn Cipro has a lot of side effects. Have you looked them up? I am not saying come off it but what you are experiencing could be from that. It stays in your system long after you take it. Are you still taking pain meds? I can't remember if Cipro causes constipation but pain meds do for sure. Are you taking any stool softeners to help? Ginger or peppermint tea help a lot with bloating as well as a heating blanket. When you mean blocked do you mean constipated blocked?
867582 tn?1311627397 I will say that Cipro was, indeed, effective at zapping my infection. However, after reading about the many dangerous side effects of Cipro (which is a fluoroquinolone) I will say to everyone here (especially those over 60 and/or those on NSAIDs): Please, have your doctor consider a different antibiotic before using any that are in the fluoroquinolone category!!!
Avatar n tn Try to avoid Cipro or Levaquin if you can. The side effects can be horrible including orthopedic problems you do not want to have, so tell them you throw up when you take them if they try to give you Cipro/ciprofloxacin or Levaquin.
Avatar m tn Now I know that antibiotics can have side effects, but should I be concerned about these? I know that cipro is a pretty strong antibiotic and it does cure my uti symptoms when I take it. I'm wondering if I'm taking too much of it considering I'm only about 110-115lbs. Or maybe I need a different antibiotic? For all I know these side effects aren't even possible with cipro. Any input?
Avatar m tn How during the course of it , i have difficulty in breathing and had dey theoat and mouth which i thought should be the normal side effects of the medication. However after completing the course of the drug , i felt nerve pain on my eyes , thighs , groin area , legs , arms. And muscles weakness. Doctors run through many scans and could not find a problem with me. As i read on the net that cipro causing many adverse effects like permanent damage on the tendons , nerves , tissues.
Avatar f tn It could be from all the drugs going through you or an infection that can screw up blood work results. I am going to tell you I had horrid side effects from cipro so don't be alarmed if there are some things out of the blue and not to confuse it with endo recovery. I would look up the side effects of cipro so you can have an idea. Let me go look on my blog as I am sure I posted about this antibiotic after my surgery. The worst thing you can do is panic.
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hey Candy I am on antibiotics this week for a uti as well. So much pain but itsgetting better. Cipro is a general antibiotic and should take care of the infection.
443434 tn?1255891233 What other kinds of eye problems is it supposed to cause? I took a lot of Cipro, and have a lot of eye problems, but there is no evidence that the two are connected. How did your doctor connect them?Have you looked up the side effects on WEB MD or somewhere?
Avatar n tn I had laparoscopic surgery to remove my gall bladder last Nov. I had 3 large stones and several small ones. The surgery went fine but about a month later, I had a UTI, then have had one at least every month since. I'm just recovering from my 11th UTI and am now immune to Cipro. What can be causing this chronic UTI? I have good hygiene and release fluids after intimacy.
Avatar n tn Call your doctor about how you are feeling, only he can say for sure what is causing you to feel this way. Buspar has a lot of side effects as does Cipro, but with not being a doctor I can't say which one may be causing your symptoms. Your doctor is your best resource, so give him a quick call so you can get some relief. Take care.
Avatar n tn Call your doctor. If you are having side effects, you did the right thing by stop taking the meds, but you need to talk to your doctor soon. Also, since the cipro did not work it might be a good idea to get a culture and sensitivity (if possible) to see which meds might work. it's best to avoid drinks like coffee, soda and alcohol when you have a UTI.
1833444 tn?1325557062 t know what permanent effects I will have not from the treatments but the other meds I had to take for side effects. Take it a day at a time and try not to worry yourself to death. God Bless us all.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I was given cipro and Flomax for pelvic pain and a UTI. the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? I read one forum where people where saying they had a permanent loss of strength, could not throw the discus as far?
798555 tn?1292787551 Could anyone share any side effects they had and the herxing feel with these? The Dr said they can be tough on some people that was it nauseating , headaches, absolutely no alcohol ect. And what did you do to help cope with any side effects? It would help me to know what might possibly be around the corner for me so I can work thru it. I have to work regardless of how I feel (not an option), so your info will help me prepare getting thru the work day.
Avatar m tn Both Cipro and Levaquin are drugs of a class known as quinolones. Of the two Cipro has the least side effects. The sore muscles may last for weeks or months or you may feel better in a few days. With that class of drugs there are ocasional reports of permanent tendon damage. This does not mean they should not be used. It is a matter of risk and benefit.
Avatar m tn so i was diagnosed with a uti and prescribed ciprofloxacin i have to note that i have taken cipro once before and had no adverse effects that i can remember, i have now taken 3 cipro pills out of the 10 prescribed and i noticed some pain in the Achilles tendon area, but on the other hand i work in roofing and i was having to jump over some parapet walls on the roof and such i received my prescription for cipro 5/25/16 it is now 5/26/16 8:40 pm, as i said before the first time i took cipr
Avatar f tn After 24hrs on Cipro all my symptoms went away. One week later my symptoms of a UTI retuned. Back to the doctors I went culture this time showed bacteria count less then 10,000. My doctor felt the infection was gone but I could be having bladder spasms. He give me spasm medication and referred me to a urologist. Fast forward another week still having UTI symptoms. Bladder medication for spasms was changed twice due to side effects.
Avatar n tn I thought I had something else and my doctor found that I had a UTI he perscribed Cipro 500mg twice a day for a week. I seem to be going through some bad reactions. I even thought I had HIV. Skin burrning , itching skin, abnormal amount of acne all over the body. I have recently developed photosensitivity. I was out side next day my face developed a rash. Again I thought i had something else never thought of the cipro.

Avatar n tn If you have almost finished the prescription, I would just finish it (if you are not allergic, there is little harm, as side effects are rare), but stopping it is a reasonable option considering the situation. If you do, make sure to be reassessed if your symptoms recur.
Avatar n tn Because I am still having pain on urination, I was given another round of antibiotics to take (different antibiotic and suffering significant side effects). I always have residual pain that lasts for many weeks after an infection clears, probably due to postmenopausal urogenital atrophy. How do you know when to say "enough" with the antibiotics when you still have dysuria but a negative culture? (The last urinalysis at the GPs office showed red blood cells but no white ones).
Avatar f tn After having a burning sensation when I pre and irritation. In my vaginal area inside my urethra, I recently discovered that I have a UTI and was prescribed the drug Bactrim. I am suppose to take it twice a day for 3 days. Anyway, I have a history of being allergic to antibiotics and getting the "rare" side effects. I was reading the side effects of Bactrim and I am horrified and super worried! I don't react very well to antibiotics.
Avatar f tn So I have a weird feeling in my left side, can’t tell if it’s coming from my colon or intestines. I just came off of Cipro treating a uti and it was more painful during my medication. Pain is going away but anytime I need to make a bowel movement or if I breathe a certain way there’s a weird sensation under my left rib cage and down on my waist. I’m not sure if this is just going to take a while to go away because I did suffered from a pretty bad uti. Also still bloated.
