Cipro side effects for dogs

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro side effects for dogs

cipro

Avatar m tn t usually prescribe but given that it have taken Cipro 250mg in the past (or urinary tract infection with no side effects. Is Cipro as effective as other antibiotics for dental infection?
Avatar m tn Both Cipro and Levaquin are drugs of a class known as quinolones. Of the two Cipro has the least side effects. The sore muscles may last for weeks or months or you may feel better in a few days. With that class of drugs there are ocasional reports of permanent tendon damage. This does not mean they should not be used. It is a matter of risk and benefit.
Avatar f tn the ER doc gave me cipro. Wish I would have known then what I know now. Had bad side effects for over a year from it. My belief now is that most UTI's can be cleared up by taking cranberry pills, and flushing out your system with large amounts of fluids. Don't take a drug that is given out for people who have been exposed to anthrax... sigh. Unless you need a drug to stay alive don't take any because our bodies were not made to take them. My thoughts anyway.
867582 tn?1311627397 I will say that Cipro was, indeed, effective at zapping my infection. However, after reading about the many dangerous side effects of Cipro (which is a fluoroquinolone) I will say to everyone here (especially those over 60 and/or those on NSAIDs): Please, have your doctor consider a different antibiotic before using any that are in the fluoroquinolone category!!!
Avatar m tn So yes---In fact--since you brought it up--I have a new group called side effects of medications. Feel free to post your side effects there.
Avatar f tn I was given Cipro for possible salmonella, and am concerned about all of the side effects I have been reading about. Is this a safe drug? I woke up with anxiety and some stiffness this morning, and am scared it's going to get worse. Please help.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Common side effects of ciprofloxacin are stomach pain, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset and restlessness. Rarely it can cause skin sensitivity to sunlight, rash, breathing difficulty etc. Vaginal discharge with odour and back pain are the manifestations of UTI. Since how long are you using ciprofloxacin? Feel free to ask if you have any more doubts. Take care.
Avatar n tn But the insomnia was miserable so I called my doctor to ask if there was anything I could do for the side effects, so he switched me to 3 wks of doxycycline, which I started taking immediately. Now I sleep OK but after two days the symptoms are back in full force. I'm wondering if I made a mistake in switching. Have others had similar experiences? Is doxy just slower to take effect?
Avatar n tn Any body can ans what kind of side effects that has cipro to use for long time......
Avatar f tn You can also try other meds. Even over-the-counter dramamine can be used for dogs. Reglan and phenergan are two other considerations. As with any medication, make sure you check with your vet first. Does your dog actually throw up on car trips? Is there a certain amount of time it takes to get really sick or is it immediate? You're doing a great job taking Rocky on short trips to get him used to car travel.

Avatar f tn Thank you for your response, sometimes I feel blocked in my stomach I don't know if connected from my surgery? I don't take any pain relieve only Cipro because I still have infection, I don't like the side effect of cipro..
Avatar m tn What are some side effects of Cipro. I was on cipro for a month and it was terrible. My face felt flushed, burning sensation on my back. When I was almost done with it, I started to get this wierd ache feeling in my butt that still exist today. Anybody expirenced this whil and after cipro antibiotics?
Avatar m tn My husband was on a long-term course of cipro for prostatitis. After three weeks, he developed stomach aches and pains and the doctor told him to stop. Unfortunately he also developed the types of pains and muscle weakness you are describing. This was in January and it has been a year without it going away. Cipro is a VERY powerful antibiotic and there are boards on the internet that have many people complaining about their "Cipro poisoning".
Avatar m tn I have taken Flomax for a week, and am very weary of the side effects. It effects my vision - I can feel it in my eyes. It dulls my brain, I can feel it in my head. It caused the ringing in my ears to get worse. I've had minor chest pain for a few days. All of these are on the list of side effects.
Avatar f tn I do not know that this surgery is available yet for dogs, or whether or not there are any canine neurosurgeons who would perform it, but if it does exist, my guess is that it would still be cost-prohibitive for anyone but the wealthiest pet owners or people who have pet health insurance. A change in appetite is a common side effect of phenobarbital. Some dogs eat less and have to be cajoled into eating, others become voracious and can't seem to eat enough.
Avatar m tn My experience is anecdotal, but significant. I cannot tolerate Levaquin at all, but take Cipro without any side effects. I know at least four other individuals with the same tolerance for Cipro.
Avatar n tn Some of the side effects reported vary due to different breeds & several other factors. We have 1 Rottweiler mix male & 2 rescued dogs (German Rottweiler female & American Rottweiler female). German Rotty was approx 2 y/o when rescued. She had her first seizure approx 2 months ago. Scared me to death. A month later she had another so I knew some of the signs before hand. My mixed male & American Rotty female were going crazy when the seizures occurred.
Avatar n tn I usually use 250 mg of Cipro for a 60-70 pound dog. However, the side effects of the Cipro should have subsided by now. Since the problem with your dog began as a vomiting issue did any of the vets discuss performing endoscopy, a barium study, or special dietary regiman? Did they discuss the possibility of food allergy gastritis? Did they mention giving your dog a medication called Celexa or Reglan, (or other medication that are anti-nausea and vomiting) medications?
Avatar n tn That liquid like ball is edema and depending on how large it is and that it is on the throat, a drain my be necessary. As for the Cipro....there are some very serious risk factors. If your pet has any of the MANY risk factors, giving Cipro can be deadly to your dog. If your pet is under 2 years old (assuming by the weight he is a medium or large breed)....do NOT under any circumstance give Cipro. Please please take your dog to the vet so he is properly treated in a safe and humane way.
443434 tn?1255891233 I had taken Levaquin before with no side effects at all, so I hoped any side effects would be temporary and hoped for the best. I took it for three days. For some reason the doctor put me on 1000mg a day even though I'm only 5'2 and weigh 110.
Avatar m tn Do not get back on the Cirpo. The Quinolone family of antibiotics are very potent and dangerous and can leave you with lasting side effects. You can google it and find there is a black box warning for this medication and there are numerous forums of people who have been "floxed" and are dealing with side effects years after taking the drug. There are safer abx out there for respiratory infections. I took a quinolone and I can tell you it messed me up big time while on it.
Avatar n tn If this is a small dog and 3ml is a human dose, then yes, it could be harmful.....A large dog would be less likely to suffer as serious side effects....... The same overdose symptoms can happen to a dog as with a human.......You need to look at your package warning label and read them or google side effects of this medication...... If you see anything unusual with your dog's behaviour, you need to seek medical attention ASAP.....Let us know how he/she is doing.....
Avatar f tn I would never take Levaquin. The side-effects are well documented. They often last for months and are sometimes permanently debilitating. Levaquin is a fluoroqinalone, and Cipro will do the same thing without many of the problems, even though they are quite similar from a chemical standpoint.
