cipro

My husband has continuous bouts of nausea following a long (3 mos) course of cipro for prostatitis. Finally, took himself off med because he couldn't stand the nausea. This discussion is related to Severe Chronic Nausea.
I was given Cipro for a simple UTI, I was 36 years old. I was dizzy for three and half weeks, vertigo, nausea, then the ear pressure, spots in left eye, flashes in left eye, short term memory loss, horrible dreams, weak wrists and knees, massive floaters headaches, ears ringing, dry eyes, itching all over, rashes, insomnia, dark spots in left eye, eye pain, blurred vision, sensitive to sound, vitreous detachment happened in left eye and now happening with the right eye.
When I arrived there I had migraine, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea for 4 days and they gave me IV cipro but it didn't seem to help. a year later I returned to the US and started to have asthma, sleep apnea, and chronic fatigue for over a year. nothing helps my fatigue, exercise, cpap, symbicort, metformin for my high blood sugar. I have low cortisol too about 4.0 AM. I took pin-x twice and magnesium citrate and my diarrhea stopped and I have more normal harder stools.
Hello, Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are few common side effects of antibiotics. If nausea is unbearable it is suggested to consult your attending doctor. The correct drug, dosage and frequency of treatment depend on the clinical examination findings and test results. If you are not satisfied with your doctor’s opinion it is suggested to seek second opinion. Keep me posted on how you are doing. Best luck and regards!
I have lower and middle left quadrant pain sensitive to touch its hot and hurt when sudden moves and I walk like I am doubled over - like appendicitis but not - feel nausea no vomiting very tired muscles ache doesn't hurt when I just lay in one spot and rest or sleep.
Turned out I had an ovarian cyst which resolved itself but caused me GREAT stress and worry, had 2 pelvic U/S to confirm this. Just after stopping the Cipro I stared having gas/bloating on the left side (which I at first attributed to the left ovarian cyst). It wasn't every night but most evenings during May. Then in June went thru andother HUGE stress, lost the contract on our house which we are trying to sell and nearing foreclosure...so went from super relief to MAJOR grief.
It is now about a year later, and I am having pain in my left testicle again. I do not have health insurance and got a friend to prescribe Cipro for me to clear up my infection. After reading the new black box warning on Cipro I am very nervous and reluctant to take it, mainly because of the reports of sudden tendon rupture. I started taking Cipro a week ago. 6/5/09. I noticed my energy to be low and my joint and tendons to be stiff and sore.
Hi Diane, Just finished reading your comments. Product names : Cipro, Ciloxan. Ciprofloxacin, a quinolone antibacterial, is used to treat several types of bacteria resistant to other commonly used antibiotics. It is especially useful for some types of chest infections, and skin, intestinal , and urinary tract infections. Possible Adverse Effects Ciprofloxacin commonly causes nausea and vomiting; other side effects are less common, except when high doses are given.
Help! I have had nausea for almost a year now. It comes and goes. I originally thought I had a parasite after returning from Central America a year ago and took Cipro and Albenza just in case. They did 2 stool cultures when i returned in December and 2 more in April (including a yeast culture) and everything was negative. I had blood work and a sed rate test done in April and again in September and everything was normal with a sed rate of 2 both times.
Last month I went to peru and got a stomach virus which resulted in severe diarrhea, so i took cipro and it eventually cleared in three days. But ever since this i've experienced nausea that comes and goes. Also i feel this sensation of a lump in my throat. I went to the doctor and he has given me zantac because he thinks it might be acid reflux. It's been one week and it has really not helped. Should i see a gastroenterologist about this or a throat doctor because my throat feels weird?
Although a common side effect of Cipro is nausea, followed by headache, restlessness, abdominal pain and bloating . Your initial urine culture can and probably has directed the choice of antibiotics you have been prescribed. It is also possible , since your symptom of nausea is so common with many other disease processes, you could have another diagnosis plus a UTI, especially if you have had nausea much longer than your UTI. .
I am a 25 yo male with no prior abdominal medical history nor any family history of gastrointestinal disease that I am aware of. I've been experiencing extreme nausea for the last two to three months. It usually happens in the morning after being up for an hour or so and then will come back at nonspecific times during the day. Usually lasts from minutes to hours and is accompanied by occassional sharp pains that last for a few minutes, hot flashes and chills, sweating, and fatigue.
About 3 1/2 months ago I was given the antibiotic Cipro for an upper respiratory infection. Not even a week after completeing these antibiotics I started having issues with nausea every couple of days. It has gotten worse since then to the point I hate food and thats not good when you only weight 113 and battled to gain those 13 pounds for 3 years. I have been diagnosised with gastritis twice in the past year but was never given medication or anything.
I think he mentioned Gastroenteritis. He put me on an antibiotic called Cipro 500mg, told me to just try liquids for 24hrs, then use the "BRAT" diet as the nausea goes away. And I should start feeling better within 3 days and then can return to work/activities, but will be taking the med's for 7 days. Thanks for the suggestions and comments!
I'm having chronic nausea and vomiting was working in Indonesia and probably eating contaminated meat/water. When I arrived there I had migraine, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea for 4 days and they gave me IV cipro but it didn't seem to help. a year later I returned to the US and started to have asthma, sleep apnea, and chronic fatigue for over a year. nothing helps my fatigue: exercise, cpap, symbicort, metformin for my high blood sugar. Which is my own stupid fault, i know. They gave me scrip for a wk of cipro n generic zofran (anti nausea med) and after about 2days of the meds I was able to keep food down. I went to the clinic; the earliest appt they could give me is the very end of may. I hadn't had any nausea- until 2 days ago. Woke up this am n can't even keep water down. There is no walk-in doctor @ the clinic today so I have to go tomorrow. Should I hit the er, again??
The dizziness continued for days, and I just assumed it was part of recovering or a side effect from my medication (flagyl, cipro prilosec, and pain pills). Then I noticed it was harder and harder to breathe, my breaths were shallow, and this made me even more dizzy. On top of this I started having headaches (probably from lack of oxygen?).
A friend of mine has had persistant nausea for the last 6 months. It started while we were traveling in Cairo, several hours after eating a meal. Since returning, he has been to see several specialists. After a full battery of tests, including: endoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy (?), ultrasounds, barium swallow stomach x-rays, and the usual stool samples and blood work, they have basically come up with nothing.
I have found lately that I get nauseous in the morning after drinking coffee. I don't know why. I'll be interested in the reponses. Good luck!
In 2000 I had to retire due to other medical problems, other medical problems include depression from being on CIPRO, disc degeneration in my back, thoracic outlet syndrome in left arm, numbness, tingling and burning sensation in right thigh, GERD and hiatal hernia - had a laproscopic fundoplication with multiple dilations of my esophagus after this, total of 3 ERCP one with stent placement, liver biposy, xrays, ultrasounds and CT scans, 2 c-sections, tubal ligation, hysterectomy, bladder rep
She has been on Flagyl and Cipro. I'm not sure if she is still on the Cipro but is on the Flagyl. She was just taken back to the emergency room this morning at 2:30am due to her nausea. She is giving up the fight. Can you shed any light on the nausea?
I have struggled with nausea for many months after becoming suddenly ill while travelling in the Middle East. I naturally suspected some sort of food poisoning and was treated with Flagyll and Cipro. It has been over 6 months now and my symptoms (primarily nausea that varies in severity) have yet to improve. My doctor's suggestion was something to the effect that my intestines had been so beat up by whatever parasite or infection I had that it would take time for my system to recover.
About a month prior to all this he had nausea and would vomit after his am bowel movement. He was put on flagyl and cipro and felt great for several weeks until the above. Anybody want to comment? We are both so stressed from this. Help !
I had a recent appointment with a gastroenterologist who suggested I have something he classified as IBS or traveller's diarrhea. It has been over 6 months now and my symptoms (primarily nausea that varies in severity) have yet to improve.

First, I will feel a bit dizzy and nauseas, then I will have to run to the bathroom because the diarrhea hits me and I feel like while I'm going to the bathroom I will pass out, then the nausea and dizziness with cold chillls and then I am hot so I have to take the sweater off that I put on because I was cold. I am 30 years old and I have a mild case of lupus that has been under control with plaquinil over the past ten years.
I have been diagnosed with GERD since 2001 and take nexium 40mg, but now I am struggling with chronic nausea (to the point where I cannot eat) and diarrhea and sometimes severe abdominal pain (sharp, knife-like pain in lower abdomen and a duller pain in the upper abdominal region that feels like i just got hit). I caught a bacterial infection in October 2006 while i was in Asia and came back- no parasites tho- and put on Cipro 1000mg for 13 days.... got a c.
It has been a while since the dr. gave me cipro and flagyl to hopefully stop the pain in the right side that has metasticized to my back and the upper part of my right leg. I still feel that pressure in my right side though. As if someone has a fist in my back and side. I still am all of a sudden getting nauseated and not being able to eat. How long does it take for cipro and flagyl to work on something like this? I would like to get on with life and not worry about this.
50% of my symptoms which led me to my doc are gone from an undiagnosed UTI (Cipro) and the other 50% may be from this Vit D. Wonder if the unexplained Wt. Gain the past 2 yrs is a factor. WE shall see!
