Common Questions and Answers about Cipro for salmonella

cipro

They couldnt find out what was wrong, finally test revealed salmonella, they put him on Cipro for a week or so, and he was back to normal in no time. ***** you went through so much before they found it, but at least you had alot of preventative test done along the way!
I was given Cipro for possible salmonella, and am concerned about all of the side effects I have been reading about. Is this a safe drug? I woke up with anxiety and some stiffness this morning, and am scared it's going to get worse. Please help.
I lived in Mexico for 11 years, and just got my first "taste" of salmonella a few weeks ago. I had occasional bouts of diarrhea, but mainly felt like I had the flu ... very listless and desperately wanting to sleep all day and night. The doctor put me on 500 mg. of Cipro twice a day, and I felt much better within three days. I took the entire seven-day course of Cipro. Within a week, I am feeling the old symptoms again.
The salmonella infection did indeed spread around my body – I have to be on Cipro for 6 weeks to be sure that it does no more harm, especially if my pacemaker leads are infected. This I can handle. The thing I cannot tolerate is the after-effect of salmonella poisoning – it is called Reactive Arthritis (Reiters Syndrome) and it is horrible. Never before have I felt such pain in my entire existence.
After getting food poisoning (salmonella) about 6 months ago, I've had lots of mucus in my stool. It doesn't happen all the time, but it usually does. I went to the Dr and he perscribed Cipro. That cleared it up for a couple days, but then it came back. I went back and he said "we don't want to overmedicate it". So anyway, it's been going on for the better part of six months. I was told it could be IBS, but I've been under worse stress that what I'm under now and I've been fine.
In the meantime, try drinking 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in your glass of water. That's good for Salmonella. But H Pylori and e coli need a medical prescription. Also take 5 cups of water, add 1 Tablespoon of sugar and 1 teaspoon of salt and a pinch of baking soda. Mix well and drink sips all day. This will keep you from dehydrating before you get to your doctor. Please take care of yourself! Wishing you the best...
Immediately went to the hospital and I was Diagnosed to have a parasite or Possibly a severe case of salmonella poisoning. Was placed on several medicines Cipro (500mg) Flagyl(500mg) and Lomotil..
On Feb 8, I got a bad case of food poisoning from gool 'ole Universal Studios chicken. I assume it was salmonella. Since then, my stomach hasn't been too well, and when I use the bathroom, there seems to be pus or mucus in my stool. It doens't happen much in the morning though. It's sort of a clear yellow in color, and has stringy, mucus-like proporties (although there isn't much, just a bit hanging off the peices of stool).
5 hour bus ride having to go to the bathroom every five minutes or having to see another doctor in Chile for an Rx for Cipro. I took lots of Imodium (6 the first day, 4 the second, 2 the third then stopped) I continued the Cipro but on the second day off of Imodium was having explosive watery stools. So I went to the doctor in Chile and all my tests came back negative for pathogens. This got me thinking because I am very careful about what I eat and almost always prepare my own food.
I’ve been on both IV and oral antibiotics for about four weeks to make sure the salmonella was all gone, I only had one week to go on the Cipro, but now it looks like the salmonella is still sneaking about in my body – alive and kicking – so I have to continue on the Cipro indefinitely. I am so frustrated. Even work things are going wrong.
He put me on Cipro for 1 week. After the Cipro was finished, the burning in the urethra had stop but a slight pain in my prostate was still there at nights for a while. About a week ago (3weeks after i finished the cipro) i realize that the pain in my prostate felt as if it was gone but now i feel the burning in my urethra and penis returning again as it did before. I am convince that I must have contracted some sort of virus or bacterial infection or STD from my sexual encounter.
I don't know if the Salmonella caused the stroke. I know that for several days I had a temperature upwards 105 degrees that the drs.couldn't get down so it's my assumption this is what caused the stroke. I'm not a dr. I'm only going off what I've been told.

showed that I had borderline appendicitis due to the appendicitis not filling with the contrast fully and the mesenteric lymph nodes of the area being “shoddy”. I was given Cipro and Flagyl for two weeks to see if that would fight the infection. After an ultrasound, they found my appendix healed completely. While the yellow explosive diarrhea has returned to coming 2-3 times/week (rather than the daily occurances) the pain in my lower right abdomen and back continued at the same intensity.
There are number of antibiotics to treat all sorts of causes of diarrhea, and the one for Salmonella, for example, is Cipro, so could be you need a multi-antitiobic pill, and also some treatment for reducing any chemical/metals load you might be carrying in your body, and at the very least a pill to reduce your diarrhea.
my problems (discussed below) began almost 2 weeks ago now, and i thought the cause of the problems was salmonella from eating eggs, but then i realized that 3 other people had eaten the same exact thing that i ate from the same exact place, and they were all OK.... i have been reading for almost a week straight now about all kinds of stomach/intestinal disorders, and people's stories/advice, etc., but nothing has really given me a definitive answer.
I can tell you I have been on numerous antibiotics including, Cipro, Tequin, Biaxin, Tetracycline, and Augmentin for either the stomach or urogenital problems. None of them worked! But I do imagine my gut flora is a mess after all these antibiotic series!
I have experienced severe adrenal issues three times in my life, a couple times mild issues. Currently I just underwent surgery for my gallbladder. The following days were awful and I find myself going back into the same symptoms.
I have no doubt that if I had had a less committed doctor I would have died and I’m so grateful to him, not only for saving my life, but for always being kind and caring and for thinking “out of the box” as they say.
I am not a very lucky person to say the least - I cried like a baby when I got the lab results -confirming what I already knew - more pain and disfigurement in my future - awesome - more isolation as I don't want to burden my friends and family - I am anti opioid - I have had surgeries in the past and had short term treatments with pain medications and I know how addictive they are and how many other problems they create - my ibuprofen is not doing the trick anymore - just got a script for trama
I believe the cause of my issues started when I got salmonella poisoning (threw up for a week straight among other things), never been the same since. I think that’s where I got the hiatel hernia. I think the gallbladder and liver may also be involved with this problem.
I found a person on the MSN body odor support forum who had a bad odor for a long time and then the odor went away after being treated for H. Pylori, but then the coughing and sneezing started after that. Interesting. Another person on the MSN board said he was also treated for H. Pylori and then the coughing/sneezing started! Question: Do any of you burp a lot? Here is a thread that should be read: http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=561071#i Read the replies to that link also.
