Cipro for prostatitis treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro for prostatitis treatment

cipro

Avatar n tn I visited my family doctor who did a simple test for blood in the urine, which was positive. He diagnosed prostatitis and prescribed 2 weeks of cipro. I tried it for two days but experienced anxiety and insomnia, although I must say by the second day the urinary symptoms were completely gone. But the insomnia was miserable so I called my doctor to ask if there was anything I could do for the side effects, so he switched me to 3 wks of doxycycline, which I started taking immediately.
Avatar m tn Now 5-6 days into medication cipro seems to be helping a bit. I tried masturbation today to test the waters and now I feel worse. I really don't feel it as much the moment I wake up in the morning and it seems to be more noticeable as day progresses. My Questions: 1. Since this was a high risk encounter, should I be retested for above STDs? 2. Does this sound like Prostatitis? Or what could it be? 2a. I heard prostatitis is hard to cure is that true?
Avatar n tn After two days of treatment, I developed side effects to the Cipro (muscle and joint pain). I was taken off the Cipro and was put on Augmentin (twice a day) for 21 days, which I began taking today. My urologist advised me that if the Augmentin does not work, then there is not a whole lot he can do to improve my condition given that there are no other antibiotics that could be helpful. I just got a PSA done, and I am awaiting the results.
Avatar n tn If your partner is taking Cipro, then getting him tested won't help much, as it will most likely be negative anyway. Instead, YOU should be tested. Yes, there is a very good chance that his prostatitis is due to a STD, given this set of circumstances. And if you still have something and don't receive treatment, you will only reinfect him. The majority of females with bacterial STDs have no symptoms.
Avatar n tn Which type of Prostatitis do you have? The duration of antibiotic therapy depends upon the type of prostatitis; for acute it may be for few weeks, chronic is for 6-12 weeks. You can discuss with your doctor about other antibiotics such as doxycycline, sulfa drugs or ofloxacin. You can also discuss with your doctor about non antibiotic treatment such as pain killers, alpha blockers, physical therapy etc. Also increasing hydration (by drinking more water) and avoiding alchhol can also help.
Avatar f tn A few days later I started to have a tingling sensation, like I had to pee, so I went to an urgent care and they gave me Cipro for prostatitis. I had an STD screen three days into my Cipro cycle and it came back negative. I completed the 10 day cycle of Cipro, had a 7 day cycle of Doxocycline due to symptoms persisting, and then had another test done 4 days after the completion of Doxocycline. All tests were negative. I am currently back on Cipro after seeing a urologist.
Avatar m tn Saw my doctor because terrible irritation in penis tip, sore testicles and having to urinate all night. No burning when I pee or discharge but significant pain at tip. Doctor did first catch urine test; neg for leuk & nitrates, said it could be prostatis so he gave me 7 days of Cipro. Had a minor surgery a few days later so did not take it. The next week it got even worse, so went to urologist. Same symptoms but worse. Dr. asked if it could be std, I told him I doubt it...
Avatar m tn What is the proper treatment for NGU or just Urethritis? Is 1gm of Zithromax the preffered and correct treatment? Or is another medication better? Thanks.
Avatar m tn So it is very difficult to say whether you are having prostatitis or not. However for prostatitis the first line of treatment is by antibiotics and in some cases, a course of antibiotics may last two to three months. Hence you should follow up with your urologist. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn Don't take Cipro!! It can really mess you up! I was on 6 week course of it for prostatitis and it really messed my nerves up. insomnia, anxiety, and numbness in my hands and feet...
Avatar n tn It did not work and I took ceftriaxone and azithromycin which appeared to get rid of the GC, but I still had lingering symptoms (prostatitis) I returned to the US and I was tested negative for G/C. My doc put me on Cipro for 2 weeks for prostatitis and urged me to wait and see, so I will give it a try. I will let you know how it goes.
Avatar n tn Your urologist is mistaken, or you misunderstood. Chlamydia rarely if ever causes prostatitis. Cipro is commonly given for prostatitis, but is not ideal against chlamydia. Don't get your hopes up that ANY antibiotic will have any benefit; see my original reply.
Avatar n tn Anyways he called in a perscription for 500 mg of Cipro for twice a day for 10 days. I have taken the pill for 5 days now and haven't had any real improvement. I could say the burning after unrinating is less frequent but my testicles have been aching all day for the last 10 days. The only thing that helps is Advil and I don't want to continue popping them everyday. So my question is does it take this long for the Cipro to work. What happens if after 10 days nothing has improved.
Avatar f tn Vannessa They did preform both a first urine and DRE. No white cells until they ran the DRE then they found them. They also ran urine test for Gonna and Cly both of which came back negative. They also ran an HIV blood test which came back negative. At the end of the initial exam they gave me a painful shot and put me on Doxy for 14 days. After about four days my testes and under side of the penis became warm and the problems voiding became more apparent. My testicals felt heavy.
Avatar n tn He put me on Bactrim for 2 weeks which really did not do anything for me...after bactrim he put me again on cipro and after 2 weeks a i developed prostatitis which is basically an infection in the prostate. finally after 3 weeks i feel better but still not fully recoverd from epidymitis ....in sum... i have been 2 monthsn on antibiotics and only 75% better. this is a long process.
Avatar m tn ) Got back home and was re-tested for STDs--all negative. My doctor suspected prostatitis and put me on Cipro. No change. Went to a urologist who put me on double-strength Bactrim. No change. Then saw another urologist who said the prostatitis wasn't caused by an infection and that's why the drugs hadn't worked. Told me the symptoms would go away and to see him again in 12 months. The symptoms have not gone away.
Avatar n tn I am getting a clear liquid from my penis, but you can hardly considered it as a discharge, since is just a bit for my tip of the penis to look shiny. He gave me Cipro 500 Mg. every 12 Hours for 15 days. I took them, but the pain in my groin continues and the discharge as well. He told me and I have read that this could all be symptoms of prostatitis, but I am a bit confuse because of the mini discharge. My question to you all is the following: 1) Can this be Chlamidya?
Avatar f tn Hi...I had a questionable sexual encounter about 16 weeks ago and I'm still experiencing symptoms. I have been tested for HIV, HSV, Syphillis, Hep, chlamydia, gonnorhea several times. My last serology tests were 14 weeks post encounter and everything was negative. The Urologist diagnosed me with prostatitis - I have a "boggy" prostate, intermittent pain at tip of penis and clear, sticky discharge. He prescribed 3 months of cipro, 500mg twice per day.
Avatar m tn The bacterial forms of prostatitis are treated with antibiotics such as what was prescribed. Take it a s prescribed and check with your doctor for follow-up after the treatment for proper evaluation. Pain medications may also help provide relief. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Took a 4-5 day break due to travel and soon the urination issue reappeared (frequent urination and burning sensation at the tip of penis). Had to continue Doxy for about 2 more weeks and Cipro for 5 days. Now I dont have any issue in terms of urination etc. My concern is that there is lack of sleep and it has been quite some time I slept well. Not sure why? Did have night sweats once or twice but mostly due to blankets (it was not drenching sweat but little).
Avatar n tn I looked up ureaplasma and mycoplasma as common causes of urethritis and prostatitis, but the doctor told me that cipro would have killed those bacterias, especially 34 days of cipro. I tried looking it up on the internet but I cant find anything that says cipro is used to treat ureaplasma and mycoplasma. What else can I do? I am tired of going to all these doctors and nobody being able to tell me what i have. Is there a test that i should take?
Avatar n tn he gave me cipro but I asked for levequin for 30 more days. Urologist wants to do a biopsy, a cat scan and a cystoscopy. I hesitate to have these tests if the psa comes down , if it doesn't then I would have them. I asked him about a psa3 and he said he doesn't rely on those.I am 55 with no other history.
250398 tn?1225263291 I am working out of the country, so tracking down a Urologist or even a general practice doctor that speaks good enough English for me to understand, and for them to understand me, is a challenge. So, am I on a good track? Prostatitis? Bladder/Kideney infection? Thanks for the help.
Avatar m tn As I mentioned the doctor gave me a rectal exam saying the there is no enlarged prostate and a urine test for bacteria immediately after, which was negative. Still, assuming that this is prostatitis, I understand that the treatment is a long regimen of antibiotics. Correct? How can bacterial prostatitis be diagnosed? Is non-bacterial prostatitis common? And how can it be diagnosed and treated?
Avatar f tn 5 last June (tested one month after a course of cipro for unrelated inflammation of jpouch) to 8.8 a week ago (tested 18 days after a week of trimethoprim for a suspected urine infection, no bacteria present but white blood cells). He has urgency to urinate, weak flow which can stop and start. Dribbling and one episode of complete incontinence when caught out with no toilet near. Consultant has given him 2 weeks cipro and will retest PSA in about 4 to 6 weeks time. Says prostatitis is likely?
