Common Questions and Answers about Cipro for infections

cipro

Avatar f tn Hi, I have problems with UTI and kidney infections on a regular basis. I have been on Cipro on and off since 1994. Cipro has allways worked very well for me. I have not experienced side effects from this drug. I have had other antibiotics prescribed to me that did have some negative side effects. In my case Sulfa drugs causes hives. From 1994 up to 2003, I used to come down with UTI and kidney infections that required hospitalizations with a frequency of about every 3 to 4 months.
1442701 tn?1286383987 I thought that maybe I had pulled a muscle in my back even though I didn't even throw the ball that many to times since my lower left side of my back had been hurting. Felt like labor pains Monday night it hurt so bad. On Cipro now. I just wondered if anyone else has unexpected kidney infections too.
1726450 tn?1316282511 Here at the transplant center they give us Cipro during hepatitis C treatment to prevent infections. I tool it for months. Seemed to work. No infections.
Avatar n tn is it safe to take 125 mg of cipro each day for 6 months I was prescribed this for a UTI that keeps coming back. Also the pharmacy that filled the prescription gave me 250mg tablets and told me they aren't made in 125mg. and for me to break in half . But the info that comes with the meds says not to break.crush, or chew.
Avatar f tn Perhaps this is not the right venue, as I'm certain I don't have an STD because there was no encounter. However, I am showing signs of urethritis. I won't get into specifics, but likely due to introducing old masturbation toys. Cipro is not recommended, I believe due to it's ineffectiveness against other STD's. If the NGU is not from and STD, would the drug be effective?
Avatar f tn Also, I am being treated with Cipro, which I just took a round of that for a UT about 2.5 months ago. Should I be repeating the same antibotic so soon, and will it be as effective if I do.
867582 tn?1311627397 One of the antibiotics (the 3rd one) was Cipro (which I had actually requested because I had read that it was so good for urinary tract infections). I will say that Cipro was, indeed, effective at zapping my infection.
Avatar n tn Any body can ans what kind of side effects that has cipro to use for long time......
2030686 tn?1351688548 My son is given a Z-pack, for pneumonia, which is call Azithromyacin, I think. It is a five day course, with the first day 2 pills, and the next 3 days, one pill. Have you tried this? The problem seems to be, while our bodies our busy, fighting this virus, it is easier for us to get bacterial and fungal infections, unfortunately. There are many different types of antibiotics, and super strong ones used, for medically resistant infections.
Avatar f tn I have had chronic bladder infections for years and have seen several different Urologists some in single practice, some in large practices with multiple doctors and even at large medical centers like the Cleveland Clinic and U of M Medical Center. I have brought in multiple urine samples which were tested then sent away for testing. They always come back showing bacteria. I've taken enough antibiotics to become allergic to Sulfa, Bactrum,Cipro and Tetracycline.
Avatar n tn I have taken Cipro for Urniary Tract Infections on and off for about 7 years. Last year the frequency of infections was about every 2 months. This winter I have had less than a month between symptoms. My doctor gave me a prescription for Macrobid in case I need it. I have taken it for the first time the past three days and the infection is still quite apparent especially during the night when I can feel the internal discomfort.
Avatar f tn Yes usually the Cipro would be fairly soon during or right after taking the Cipro. I assume you have been tested for diabetes? Then there is just perhaps tendonitis or carpal tunnel. If you do a lot of repetitive work. Yes you are right probably the muscle twitching is still electrolyte imbalance with all the diarrhea. The new guidelines are to take 2-3 stool cultures for C. diff to make sure you have it because the toxin test can come up false negative.
Avatar f tn I have taken Cipro with no problem. My cardio actually recommends it for people like us with pvc's.
Avatar n tn If someone has a history of UTI's and has no health insurance, why won't a doctor give a patient a refill? Why do I have to pay anywhere between $100 - $200 to go to the bathroom in a cup to confirm what I already know is true because I have had UTI's many times before. At a desperate attempt, I brought all the empty bottles of cipro and other drugs prescribed for my past UTI's to show that this wasn't something I was making up. I hoped the Dr.
Avatar n tn Hi, In your case, acute infectious prostatitis usually need to take antimicrobial medication for 7 to 14 days. Almost all acute infections can be cured with this treatment. And it usually takes 3 days before the resolution of symptoms. However, if the second drug does not eliminate all your symptoms, inform your doctor for proper management. It may take a longer time before the effects could be seen depending on the dose. Or you may be shifted to a stronger drug with milder side effects.
Avatar m tn I am afraid that whomever put you on Cipro without testing for gonorrhea and chlamydial infections has put you between a rock and a hard place. You do not mention your age but urinary tract infections are rare in men younger than 40 and thus testing for STIs should almost ALWAYS be done in evaluating such symptoms in men under age 40.
Avatar f tn 4 days after the exposure I went to the doc and got cipro for my ear. On day 9 I started taking the drug but have never gotten better which I am concerned. I easily kick these kinds of this with antibiotics. My 2 questions are is it typical to experience body aches without fever with ars? It routinely is said to be like the flu but my flus always came with fever. And the other is does ars render antibiotics useless during this time or did I just happen to catch a cipro resistant bug.
Avatar n tn You need to see a Urologist who can order x-rays or an ultrasound of your kidneys and can look into the bladder and urethra for evidence of a persistent infection. There are people who get very frequent recurrent infections and need to be on long term suppressive antibiotics for control. Good Luck.
Avatar f tn I am being treated for a urinary infections with both antibiotics (Cipro) and antivirals (valtrex) because the cause is unknown. My question is, is it safe to mix both medicines?
Avatar n tn The mild pain was still there, so I went back and he did a exam of my testicles and said everything seem fine but he gave me a proscription for Cipro to take if the pain did not go away in a few days. Now I am taking Cipro and it has only been a four days and the mild pain is still there. The pain is so mild that I have to think about it for me to notice it, or I have rub my testicles to notice it. By no means are they tender to touch! How long does it take Cipro to work?
Avatar n tn I have had numerous UTI, kidney infections which are treate with the antibiotic Cipro. As the Cipro kills of the good bacteria, yeast thrives. I found that eating yoghurt does not seem to be sufficient for me. I also take Acidophilus suppliments. You can get this at most drug stores. Stay away from sugars and white flour. Most of the grains are turned into sugars as the body processes it. You will need to do this for several months before you will notice a difference.
Avatar n tn From around 1995 to 2003 I used to get kidney infections, orchitis, eppiditimytis. To clear up these infections, I had used Cipro to combat these problems. I would end up in the local hospital about ever 3 to 4 months. I assume that you might have simmilar pproblems, close to the same that I have. Your symtoms could be the result of other conditions of the nervous system. I could also be a strict in the urethra. I suggest to consult with your doctor to rule out any more serious conditons.
Avatar f tn I have been seeing a urologist since August. He treated me for my uniary Tract Infections I have been getting as they keep reoccuring. He hasn't done any test on me just culture my urine. The last time I went the doctor he said I had no infections or no growth. I went to the er few weeks ago due to pain in my vaginal area, and the er said it sounded like I had Interstitial Cycitis but he wasn't so sure but he gave me cipro 500mg and pryridium 200mg.

587946 tn?1240925653 Since the surgery I have had 4 more infections, one of which my gynecologist did a culture for and it was positive. I took and antibiotic and felt better, but I constantly have a slight burning. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Could that be the issue? I have an appointment to see another urologist in May. I just dont know whats going on.
Avatar f tn m so sorry for your loss and for the frustrations with infections now- I can only imagine how discouraging this must be for you. Probiotics are recommended to help prevent yeast infections, but it's not always going to be effective. Talk to your doctor about the series of infections and let them know you are TTC again- you may want to request an ultrasound just to make sure that everything is clear.
