Avatar f tn Thank you for your reply..I have diverticulitis per colonoscopy and pet scan.. I have read about overgrowth and did take cipro 500 mg daily for 5 days and came out of being so weak I could hardly walk episode!..the dr said just try and it helped..thank you! I know taking antibiotics when no fever or culture sounds questionable but it did help a few months ago.....I am in pain a lot but when I am really weak..I wonder if something else is going on..
Avatar f tn ) I have some other health concerns such as seizures, MuscularDystrophy, Spinal Stenosis, etc. The meds I must regularly take for these other things have contraindications for both Cipro and Flagyl. After weighing the benefits and risks, I accepted all of the meds. The severe pain is gone (x3 days now) but I'm still battling diarrhea. I have horrible veins and no longer had venous access. We had gone through 4 patent lines and more than 30 other attempts to start an i.v.
Avatar m tn Patients with diverticulitis will usually have elevated WBC, although patients with early and/or mild diverticulitis may have a normal WBC count. This result may also be blunted in the elderly or immunocompromised.
Avatar f tn Hi I have no experience or knowledge and have come on her for some advice myself but I asked my doctor today about diverticulitis as I have had similar symptoms for months and she told me the only sure way of diagnosing this is with a colonoscopy. Hope this helps and good luck.
Avatar n tn He now just got a diverticulitis attack 3 weeks ago and was put on Cipro/Flagyl. Now today woke up and had some tenderness. He has been on a vegan diet without the nuts, seeds, etc and eating all good things. Taking fiber and probiotics. So his gastro told him to wait a couple of days as it may go away. My son made an appt with his surgeon for next week, just in case. My question is, if sigmoid gone, can they just cut out small areas only? Not sure where the infection was on the CT.
Avatar n tn I was given Flagyl and Cipro for 7 days. Immediately the symptoms cleared up. But I started getting the side affects from the antibiotics. Severe diarrhea. I have finished the antiobiotics about 2 weeks ago. Pain has come back and I'm now having pale mucus in my stool. This occurred when I had the diverticulitis attack but now it appears its back? Is this another attack or will it just take a while to get back to normal?
187666 tn?1331173345 Normally I have no digestive problems. Monday night I woke up with sharp cramps. Tuesday things only got worse. I ended up in ER with all the usual treatments. They did a CT scan and said I had diverticulitis. What a nasty little surprise. They did an IV bag of Zosyn, sent me home finally with plenty of metronidazole (QID) and SulfaTrim (BID).
Avatar n tn Can a colonoscopy be performed while you have diverticulitis, or would that be too risky - would it possibly cause a rupture?
620923 tn?1452915648 With the onset of this pain my Dr did labs and found trace blood in my urine and gave me cipro a few days later the pain increased and nothing I took OTC helped, I called and he said go 1 more week of increased water intake and the cipro...2 days later I was in the ER for the worst pain ever.....I had a US b4 the cipro I forgot to mention, no stones were seen, and in teh ER they said the infection was clear, and I had no stones, but did have some diverticulitis ....
Avatar n tn Your left side pain could be "DIVERTICULITIS" and although Flagyl and Cipro will help with the pain, I suggest you get a colonoscopy to rule out anything else. Good luck!

Avatar n tn I was finally told this weekend that I have Diverticulitis/colitis. For months, I have been searching for answers to what is wrong. The pain was finally so severe that I went to the ER thinking I had appendicitis. After a Ct scan with contrast, I was finally diagnosised. I have not had a colonoscopy. I am guessing this would be my next step? I have had back pain that feels like a kidney infection for a year. I had been tested for it and even kidney stones and was neg.
Avatar n tn I had diverticulitis and have been on meds for four days and see little and/or no improvement Bowel Movements are thin and only take place with the help of colase. My questions are: 1. How long does this go below I return to the dr.? 2. I back pain common with this? 3. My lower left side feels hard and tight and it is swollen and extended. Is this common with Diverticulitis?

Avatar n tn he gave me cipro but I asked for levequin for 30 more days. Urologist wants to do a biopsy, a cat scan and a cystoscopy. I hesitate to have these tests if the psa comes down , if it doesn't then I would have them. I asked him about a psa3 and he said he doesn't rely on those.I am 55 with no other history.
Avatar n tn My husband has been diagnosed with diverticulitis and is being treated with Flagyl and Cipro. He now has a fever and terrible stomach pain and a hives like rash on his face and a slight fever. He has had three doses and I am wondering what to do.
Avatar n tn Flagyl, Cipro, Levaquin were the most frequent. I was hospitalized, for 5 days, over the holidays, and that is when I both met my surgeon and made the decision to do the surgery. They took out about 7 inches. Deciding factor was the fact that if the colon were to rupture, as the doc put it, the results could be "catastrophic".
Avatar f tn I am a 41 year old woman whowas hospitalized for diverticulitis about 3 months ago. After antibiotics, bowel rest and iv fluids, it went away. I am going to have a colonoscopy this summer as a follow up. Since then, I have had three different episodes of discomfort and the feeling that I need to have a bowel movement, but can't...or having many, many small bowel movements for a 24 hour period. I have never had this problem before.
Avatar n tn I was sent home with a prescription for Flagyl and Cipro. I followed up with my primary doctor who basically just told me what the disease was, that I need to eat more fiber, stay away from seeds and to come back if I have another flair-up. I'm 41, male, 5'10" 159lbs and in good shape.
Avatar m tn This is long. I will start with what has been going on for a few years now. I am a male, 49 years old and don't drink, smoke or use drugs. I started having back and abdominal pain and bloated feeling a few years ago that were off and on. During these times I hade urinary problems at the same time. I went to my doctor and he would say it was a uti and give me Bactrim. I would start feeling better after a couple of days and that was the end of it.
Avatar n tn Perhaps diverticulitis (google it). If it keeps up I'd suggest see a doctor. They prescribe Cipro and Flagyl to reduce the inflammation and it makes the pain go away fast. Best wishes!
Avatar n tn I been having Black Stool for about 2 weeks now ,I been taking Cipro for 8 days it started with a bout of Diverticulitis This discussion is related to Blood in Stool.
Avatar f tn I was given Cipro for possible salmonella, and am concerned about all of the side effects I have been reading about. Is this a safe drug? I woke up with anxiety and some stiffness this morning, and am scared it's going to get worse. Please help.
Avatar n tn is it safe to take 125 mg of cipro each day for 6 months I was prescribed this for a UTI that keeps coming back. Also the pharmacy that filled the prescription gave me 250mg tablets and told me they aren't made in 125mg. and for me to break in half . But the info that comes with the meds says not to break.crush, or chew.
Avatar n tn In 1999 I had a lap procedure which left me with a diagnosis of endometriosis. Therapies include Lupron , depo, birth control pills, nuva ring, patch, etc. I used these methods continuously without withdrawal to stop my menstral cycle completely. I continue to have severe pain constantly. I had three more surgeries over the next few years and in 2004 I became pregnant. I delivered my son via c-section at 37 weeks . I then had one more endo surgery.
Avatar f tn The other differentials for lower left abdominal pain are diverticulitis, kidney stones, inflammatory bowel disease etc.Wait for the CT scan results. Consult a gastroenterologist and keep me posted. Best luck and regards!
