Cipro and tendon problems

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro and tendon problems

cipro

Avatar n tn Cipro can cause tendon problems - some have torn or broken the achilles tendon by stepping down too hard while taking Cipro. You will usually feel that the tendon is hard as a rock - if you feel that, wait to exercise, until you have stopped taking the antibiotic. You may have to switch to a different antibiotic - see your doctor.
Avatar m tn ve taken cipro from 7-14 days and even IV cipro for an infection. can you get a terrible lung infection and worsening of asthma?
Avatar f tn I took the antibiotic Cipro (which causes tendon pain and ruptures) and now have a bunch of problems with both ankles. I have achilles tendon pain, and I also have pain and swelling on the inside of my ankle and arch of foot. It hurts to move my toes back, and I can't stand on my toes at all (can't even get off the ground). I also have no balance and sway. If I walk one foot in front of the other (like a drunk driving test), I fall.
1168718 tn?1464983535 ve already had problems with your achilles tendon, I can only believe it will get worse. A close friend of mine has had the tendons in both ankles and both wrists permanently damaged by this terrible drug! She can barely walk. Please be careful!
Avatar m tn This was in January and it has been a year without it going away. Cipro is a VERY powerful antibiotic and there are boards on the internet that have many people complaining about their "Cipro poisoning". He had been on Cipro in the past for no more than 7 to 10 days with no side effects. He's had many tests and the doctors just "poo poo" him. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Fluoroquinolone Antimicrobial Drugs [ciprofloxacin (marketed as Cipro and generic ciprofloxacin), ciprofloxacin extended-release (marketed as Cipro XR and Proquin XR), gemifloxacin (marketed as Factive), levofloxacin (marketed as Levaquin), moxifloxacin (marketed as Avelox), norfloxacin (marketed as Noroxin), and ofloxacin (marketed as Floxin)]" "FDA ALERT [7/8/2008]: FDA is notifying the makers of fluoroquinolone antimicrobial drugs for systemic use of the need to add a boxed warnin
Avatar m tn I have taken cipro a lot too and it hasn't bothered me before. But I recently took it and after 1 dose my heart started acting weird. Any antibiotic of that class can cause heart palpitations. Unfortunately, most of the antibiotics I can take have that potential side effect, I'm allergic to penicillin.
Avatar m tn What are some side effects of Cipro. I was on cipro for a month and it was terrible. My face felt flushed, burning sensation on my back. When I was almost done with it, I started to get this wierd ache feeling in my butt that still exist today. Anybody expirenced this whil and after cipro antibiotics?
Avatar n tn I been having Black Stool for about 2 weeks now ,I been taking Cipro for 8 days it started with a bout of Diverticulitis This discussion is related to Blood in Stool.
Avatar m tn Both Cipro and Levaquin are drugs of a class known as quinolones. Of the two Cipro has the least side effects. The sore muscles may last for weeks or months or you may feel better in a few days. With that class of drugs there are ocasional reports of permanent tendon damage. This does not mean they should not be used. It is a matter of risk and benefit.
1994720 tn?1352742233 Thank you for your response. I have already seen a rheumatologist and neurologist about the strange tendon and nerve pain I've had ever since my surgery and subsequent sepsis incident. I never had these before and they are stumped. I have also read that high b12 and folate can actually mean I am not metabolizing/absorbing it well, hence they are ending up in my bloodstream at high levels.
Avatar m tn so i was diagnosed with a uti and prescribed ciprofloxacin i have to note that i have taken cipro once before and had no adverse effects that i can remember, i have now taken 3 cipro pills out of the 10 prescribed and i noticed some pain in the Achilles tendon area, but on the other hand i work in roofing and i was having to jump over some parapet walls on the roof and such i received my prescription for cipro 5/25/16 it is now 5/26/16 8:40 pm, as i said before the first time i took cipr
443434 tn?1255891233 I have been to my eye doctors 7 times, and yes, they agree that Cipro can cause floaters and eye problems. It is one of the side effects.
Avatar m tn I took Cipro twice in 2009, I had rash, itchy and after that I had thighs, legs and buttocks pain with nerve pain. Is that possible from Cipro ? I'm still getting the nerve and legs pain. I had xray, hiv, herpes, stds and nerve test all came back normal. Any help!!!!

Avatar n tn Shortly after had 4/5 weeks neuropathic symptoms - parathesia feet legs hands arms face etc Also affected some muscles and tendons with minor balance problems. Neurologist diagnosed as Guillaine Barre Syndrome and believed it would clear up completely. No treatment offered and largely cleared up although a couple of minor flares since. A couple of months later - one and a half weeks flu type respiratory illness - lost voice, swallowing saliva difficult, confined to bed.
Avatar f tn I have had problems in the past from cipro and levaquin.the doctor prescribed them for bronchitis along with predinisone which is a no-no(so i've read)I never knew four years ago that bad things could come from using this medicine.without my knowledge they used these medicines for emergency purposes(I had respiratory failure)in july and now my lungs have recovered but my body is numb, weak and tingly plus I have sore throats.
4451049 tn?1387153437 BOTH Cipro and Levaqun. To show how dumb I am after I took Cipro my test came back "no Bart" Then the next month it showed "Bart". Then back again, then back again. So I was put on Levaquin and the pains got even worse! I can't remember how long I stayed on Levaquin but maybe a month or more? (More evidence as to how dumb I can be.) Still no Achilles heel tendon problem. (Liars!
Avatar n tn AM NOW ON MY 5TH MONTH OF THE REFORMUATED ARMOUR, IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE I HAVE BEEN LOSING MORE HAIR THAN USUAL AND ITCHING ALL OVER MY BODY. ALSO INCREASED MUSCLE AND TENDON PAIN. DIFFICULTY REGULATING BODY TEMP. QUESTIONS: 1.COULD THE ARRYTHMIAS/ BRADYCARDIA BE RELATED TO THE REFORMULATED ARMOUR? 2. WOULD CIPRO OR THE OTHER ANTIBIOTICS HAVE INTERFERED WITH ARMOUR ABSORPTION? 3. ARE THERE ANY OTHER DRUG INTERACTIONS THAT COULD BE A FACTOR IN ALL THIS?
4451049 tn?1387153437 I had/have Bart but my symptoms would be hard to separate from Lyme or it's other coinfections. Bart. wasn't even 'discovered' (or had tests for it) when I first became ill. Later when a test was devised I was very high pos. All I can say about the treatment for Bart (for me) was that the two/three drugs rx'd for it were awful and I'd never ever take them again. Cipro, Levaquin, Rifampin. And many other people report the same side effects.
798555 tn?1292787551 every sinew and tendon and muscle and nerve in my body hurts.. i have had 5 lyme tests and all negative…i have other serious health problems, immune issues and HCV, so that may be why i have pain and fatigue...but since my husband had Lyme and we live in Vermont and I have been bit by tick many time over 25 years or more i still wonder .. and am concerned about people with lyme… i have no answers but taking a bath and doing light stretching and yoga and eating and very healthy diet..
Avatar m tn s in the same class of antibiotics as Cipro)? I was on it for 5 days of my 10 when I started getting some wrist pain and they took me off it. I didn't even know it causes tendon damage. Just wondering if anyone else had those side effects??? I think my mom was on it (IV) but didn't have any side effects. All I can say is if they want to put you on it, ask for something else unless there is no choice! Thanks!
Avatar n tn The t 1/2 of cipro is 3-5 hrs and it might have cleared mostly by now. Cipro has good safety record, side effects occur in less than 10 % patients but are generally mild, withdrawal is needed only in 1.5 % cases. Tendon rupture and tendonitis as a whole across the world few cases reported. I was asking you to rest because of your epididymitis and not primarily for the cipro. Take care!
Avatar n tn It is now about a year later, and I am having pain in my left testicle again. I do not have health insurance and got a friend to prescribe Cipro for me to clear up my infection. After reading the new black box warning on Cipro I am very nervous and reluctant to take it, mainly because of the reports of sudden tendon rupture. I started taking Cipro a week ago. 6/5/09. I noticed my energy to be low and my joint and tendons to be stiff and sore.
Avatar f tn t take Cipro/ Levaquin/Avalox! All in th same family! I was damaged by Cipro in 1990 and have continued to suffer from it still today! Shoulders/neck/Achilles tendon/ arms & hands! Shoulders the worst and longest! Levaquin prescribed several times even though I told Dr. No Cipro! Wake up! They all are the same cause same problems! Vigamox caused 3 retinal tares and detachment in Oct of 2012! Why don't we have anty re-course??
Avatar n tn My husband has been diagnosed with diverticulitis and is being treated with Flagyl and Cipro. He now has a fever and terrible stomach pain and a hives like rash on his face and a slight fever. He has had three doses and I am wondering what to do.
432312 tn?1265644974 I have had increasing Achilles tendon pain first on the right and then on the left for upwards of a year now. The tendon is sore and aches and it is swollen on the sides - and is warm. All signs of a tendonitis. BTW GOOD to see you! It is most likely related to the MS. I don't think it is "directly" a part of the MS, but it certainly is a result of it. I see two ways in which my A tendons are stressed. The first is that my gait is shot.
Avatar n tn Please get your dog to a vet as soon as possible. He needs antibiotics and wound dressing. Cipro may not be the right med and in any case all antibiotics should be given as a full course, not one-off treatments which could interfere with the right treatment.
