Cipro and staph

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro and staph

cipro

Hi there, Staphylococcus genus has roughly 30+ difference species, most of which are harmless to human. They can be found on many different type of surfaces. The staphyloccocus aureus strand of bacteria seems to be the most prevalent staph species that can cause infection. Since staph can be presented on many different surfaces, you can pick it up from just about any surfaces, including shopping carts, hands and hospital. Therefore, it is vital to have good hand-washing technique.
Hi, I had a staff infection that spread all across my penis, testicles, bladder, prostate etc. The doc first treated me for a range of STD's. Doxy 3 weeks Zithromax 4 mg Flagyl 2mg Cipro 5 days All of which did not help Ceftraxine 1 500 mg shot (helped) After they didn't work completly, the lab determined it was a coag neg staff infection and put me on Cravit for just over two weeks. 95% of the symptoms are gone. I only have a slight discharge in the morning.
I'm fishing and won't be on land until tomorrow or next day. Does this sound like Staph? I have cipro onboard and should I take this until I see a Doc?
whom I have been seeing keeps putting on short term oral antibiotics, which I know does not work, I just finished 3-weeks of Cipro and 5 days later the infection was still noticeably there. The Dr. did another biopsy and now he is waiting for the results and if it comes back as staph, which I’m sure it will, he wants to put me on 6 weeks of Cipro. My question is there a better antibiotic out there, which can be taken orally? Second question, the Dr.
1) There are better antibiotics than Cipro to treat Staph. The only way to be sure is the obtain a culture and evaluate whether it is sensitive to Cipro. If not, changing the antibiotic can be considered. 2) It is likely he/she is thinking that a fungal infection superimposed on the staph may be worsening your symptoms. 3) If the bacteria is sensitive to the antibiotics, improvement should be seen within weeks. These questions should be discussed with your personal physician.
My culture comes back positive for staph. I had never heard of a vaginal staph infection. My doctor prescribed Cipro (tests showed the staph was resistant to penicillin) and after two rounds (three days each) it has finally cleared up again (again, about a week after my cycle has ended and after two three-day rounds of the cipro). She also recommends having a herpes blood test done because she wonders how I contracted the staph and why it is recurring with my cycle.
I am 26 year old male and was given cipro for a Staph infection 500MG/2X'S per day for 10 days. On the 7th day of taking the medication, I had extreme difficulty breathing, tightness in my chest and immediately got off (okayed by my doctor). It has now been 7 days since I have been off the meds and I am still having difficulty breathing, can not take a full yawn and my left heal is in minor pain.

Thank you, thing is i went for another test, and the infection is still present, now my urine is always bright yellow and occasional tinging on the tip of my penis, even after cipro iv and more gentamicin shots. Please i need some serious help. Its beginning to affect my quality of life.
I have been to the dermatologist and he keeps putting me on different antibiotics each time. I have been on doxycycline, cipro and now levaquin. It clears up only to return after a couple of months or so. Will this ever go away eventually? He has never done a culture of any sort yet. Can my boxer bulldog be causing me to get infected? I never had this problem until we got her about 3 years ago. What can I do to make this go away for good? HELP!
Semen returned normal but symptoms still present I took the culture results to 2 doctors and 2 Urologists, all of them said having Staph. Aureus is like having nothing The 2nd urlogogists prescribed me Doxycycline for 10 days. The last doctor I visited perfomed a rectal exam and he said that my prostate is a little swollen and my symtomps are due to prostatitis. He performed PSA test (result negative) and prescriped me Cirpo 500 for 2 weeks. During the course, I was completely releived.
The doctor took a culture and said it was a staph infection. I was treated with two rounds of cipro. It seemed to get better but now, 5 days later, the discharge has started again. I was told that I would need a wash out surgery. Does anyone know what that is? I haven't been able to discuss it with my surgeon yet because it is the weekend. Thanks to you all.
In jan 2005 doc cultured and i had a staph infection on my adenoids gave me levaquin twice but would not go away. several doctors later another ENT took my adenoids out had a very bad infection after surgery in sept 06 another culture came back as staphaurous.but doc said everyone has some staph in their nose. but now my turbinate is swelling all the time Lost a lot of sleep in the last 9-10 months now.
Eventually I got a swab and was given Ceftraxone 1 shot 500mg the same day. 5 days later the lab reported staph and gave a sensitivity analysis. The urologist gave me over 2 weeks of Cravit 3 days x 500mg plus 2 weeks x 250. As well as Anti Inflamitories, and meds for my prostate (Hardingle??) The doc has been treating me for chonic prostitits. I also took cipro, flagyl, doxy and zithromax prior to the shot but none were useful against staph.
During this time my eye doctor has had me on Pred Forte for Blepharitis(all the other steroids did not work). A staph and strep infection was discoverd in my nose. I thennoticed the Pred Forte did not really work until I took a 10 day cycle of Cipro. Can these infections have an effect on the eye(Red eyes?
Staph is a bacteria so they may be putting you on Cipro for the intestinal problem and CIpro can clear up a cysts infection as well depending on which bacteria they found It is hard to say which bacteria as there are so many intestinal normal flora organisms and also a lot that cause infection. What are your symptoms? Which tests did they run and did they do stool cultures?
I had never even thought that the little glands on my breasts were in danger of becoming infected with Staph. But one of them did! I work at a pharmacy and HAD long nails. But after getting Staph on my nipple I no longer have long nails and wash my hands very frequently. I had noticed a pea sized, red bump on my areola and figured one of the little glands was clogged. So I put a hot wash cloth on the area in hopes it would loosen the gland and all would be well.
He spend 3 days in the hospital on IV antibiotics and then was released with oral zyvox, and cipro. The area is still oozing here and there but no fever. Hope this does it.
I was also wondering when I was young I ejaculated and held back the semen and had pain and bleeding and my penis is curved forward. do I need to take acetyl carnitine? thanks very much!
It was very angry looking, bright red and a little bubbled. I suspected staph or strep since I had seen that type rash on my youngest child's bottom when he was still in diapers, and it had the blister-looking bubbles. I went to my nurse practioner and she prescribed bactroban and also swabbed it. The bactroban was effective and the rash cleared by at least 50% within two to three days. Then my nurse practioner called and said the culture showed e. coli. She then prescribed cipro.
Went to Dr to see PA to test its for staph. She said she didn't need to type it and gave me a script for Bactrim generic. Started my new meds at 4:00 this afternoon and that rave on my face looks really angry and a little larger. Has any other warrior had a problem with cellulitis or staph? Hope not. Thanx and keep up the great work.
I visited a doctor, he prescriped me Zithromax (6 days) and Metradizole (10 days), and performed Semen Culture, which revealed Staph. Aurues in my semen. During and after the antibiotic courses, symptoms (frequency, weak stream, mild pain in testicle) disappear. However, one week after the course is done, symptoms start to develop again. I took the culture results to 2 doctors and 2 Urologists, all of them said having Staph.
I have been treated with antibiotics for a staph infection (SA) almost continuously since October/07. It is primarily on my scalp, but also randomly scattered around the rest of my body. They look like blister/red sores. I have taken Keflex x 10; Cipro x 14; Clindymicin x 21. Each time, they go away about 4 to 5 days into the antibiotic, and each time they have returned within 7-10 days after the course is complete. It has not tested positive for MRSA.
He has had extensive antibiotic treatments- IV vancomyacin in the hospital, a PIC line for levaquin (2 weeks), keflex, bactrim, cipro, rifamprin and many others (please excuse my spelling of the antibiotics). After 2.5 years without a problem (but during the last 2.5 years he has had many very painful abscesses on his buttocks) the infection in his scrotum is back. He was in the ER on Friday, and they said they could not drain it at that time, because it did not have enough fluid/pus.
The culture test showed that the staph was sensitive to cipro so my doctor said levox will cover it and it is actually stronger than cipro, is he right? Plus, how did this staph infection cause this discharge?

Last week I had a semen culture test done and it came back postive with a light growth of coagulase staph and a moderate growth of alpha hemolytic strep. I wanted to find out how common these types of infections are and also what the treatment should be?

I've tried to research Staph and diphtheroids on the web, and it sounds like it would be unusual for me to spontaneously get such an infection, and the timing in relation to receiving oral sex makes me suspicious of STDs. I wrote to Dr. HHH on the STD forum before I knew about the nature of the infection, and he basically said I had a low risk encounter and to follow the advice of Westover. 1) Could the bacterial infection have taken hold because I acquired some STD like herpes?
I went to a doctor who thought it may be prostatitis (finger in rear end and tender prostate) and prescribed cipro for one month-500g/2x per day. Here's my concern...a std wouldn't show up that soon would it? Was I too soon in testing? Is urine test as good as a swab? Is there a high occurence of false negatives with the urine test? If its not chlamydia or gonorrhea, it coulf be a NGU, but wouldn't those most likely be an ecoli, staph, or strep? If so, cipro should work?
