Common Questions and Answers about Cipro and numbness

cipro

Please be very careful with cipro. Look up all the side effects of this on the computer ASAP. I was on cipro 250mg for one month then doctor raised it to 500mg. I no sooner took the larger dose than I started to jerk in sleep and had problems with numbness/tingling in both arms from elbow to finger tips. Shook like i had parkinsons. I will NEVER take cipro again!
So, I went to a urologist about a week ago, he gave me an exam, confirmed that it was quite probably a UTI because I did have a swollen testicle and red scrotum, burning sensation, tenderness, and he prescribed cipro to treat it. At the time I'd developed the infection, I'd just begun dating someone new and we did the mattress mambo (protected) and sometimes I get a little urethral inflammation after using condoms, so I wasn't worried.
In 2008, the FDA ordered the black box warning for all fluoroquinolones (which include cipro). I started taking cipro before I knew how dangerous it was (I'm over 60 and on aspirin). I had to stop it after the 3rd day because of really bad side effects. I was having to jump out of bed a dozen times at night with industrial-strength Charlie-horse cramps affecting my thighs, my calves.
5 months ago my wife came down with a stomach bug and was given cipro and flaygl. Shortly after taking the drugs she started to have numbness and tingling in her arms, legs, upper back and face. She was diagnosed with neuropathy as a result of the medication. Since that time she has had extreme fatigue, backaches and muscle twitching. Not to mention developing severe achilles tendonitis in both ankles from the cipro. A neurologist ordered a Brain MRI without contrast which was normal.
I was diagnosed with a UTI and started taking antibiotic cipro 2 days ago. It is no better and tonight my crotch area right around my urethra is numb. I've tried several different positions and even walked around. Still numb. I don't know if I should be concerned. I've been trying to wait and give the meds a chance. I've never had a UTI last this long after starting meds. Please help!
Over a few months it became a persistant issue and I went to a Urologist. I was diagnosed with a accute prostate infection and was on cipro for 6 months althought no infection seemed to show of the urine tests at each doctor's visit. I was also placed on Flomax and meds to shrink the prostate for the last 5 months. I'm now off the meds and the doctor says the prostate is fine. My penis is still numb and cold. Erections are few and far between...
A sensory neuropathy is one which may cause numbness and tingling sensations that appear in various part of the arms and legs (usually in the feet followed by the hands)or a loss of sensory modalities (pain, light touch, vibration, and joint position). There should not be any weakness with this type of "sensory" neuropathy. It is important to establish a link between the medication and neuropathy, that is, exposure to the medication should be related to the onset of symptoms.
The catheter has been in a few days and now I noticed that when I try to have a bowel movement, i have a numbness. Numb when passing stool, numb when cleaning afterwards. I am taking cipro for the infection and have been on it for 4 days. The catheter comes out tomorrow. What could be causing me to feel numb during the BM? Please advise.
I ended up in the ER when the pain in my lower back and abdomen started. After a urine test revealed no UTI, but trace blood, I was sent for CT and my urine and blood sent to lab. The CT revealed no kidney stones. My urine had calcium oxade crystals (sp?) in it and my WBC count was up. The doctor assumed that I had passed a kidney stone and told me to take it easy. I have since returned home, and have not felt any relief. The pain has gotten worse.
things got so bad I went to the hospital and they done a ct scan and said they were going to treat me for migraines which I suffered with for a long time and I told them I was worried about the weakness and numbness and they seizure type episodes I could hardly hold myself up and if felt like a chore to walk upright.that was a little while ago and my bp went back to it's normal but I still have the episodes and the numbness and it feels like I have bugs walking all over my head.
The physical examinations conducted by the neurologist were normal and, therefore, the numbness sensation or sensory disturbance (not true numbness) was suspected due to a spinal cord lesion around T11 level. One neurologist said that somehow I appeared to have damaged my spinal cord whilst walking with crutches! MRIs of the cervico-thoracic spine and brain were normal and no lesion or spinal cord compression was evident. All the blood tests, chest and lumber xrays were normal.
I had taking cipro a week ago for 30 days and now my should and rotator cuff hurts. Expecting worse soon. Any idea please.
Hello, For about five years now I have had intermittent numbness and tingling in my feet from mid calf down. Same thing with"Pulsatile Tinnitus" (MD heard carotid bruits). I've had a brain MRI twice. First was ok.
Got something terrible 6 months ago(when I started working in a Nursing Home) and ended up in hospital with severe diarrhea and vomiting. 3 days on Flagyl and cipro and then got better. 2 months later start having stomach problems. Feeling of fullness at smallest amount of food. Had much nausea to where I couldn't even drive 1 mile before feeling sick very achy like vice grips on the stomach. My diet has slowly decreased to where I can't hardly eat anything.
I now have nerve blocks that are done at an out patient Surgical Center. The numbness and tingling and electric like shocks to my brain have stopped. I have to go about very 6 months to have the nerve blocks but it is worth it. I have had the fast heart beat as well and the shipped beat. I just had another Echo and all the DR. at the hospital said was it looked ok. I am going to het a copy of the report. I can't tell you how many times a Dr. has said that( it looks ok) and things were not OK.
After some time, I developed a burning pain in my left Achilles Tendon and a numbness, tingling, and stiffness (both on the left foot). I mentioned this to my podiatrist and he says that we'll have to "look at other things". I know that these symptoms relate to diabetes, but a recent blood test shows no signs of it. I was also told that these symptoms occur in someone who's had diabetes for years.
I called his office and told the nurse and she just said she would tell him and I have not gotten a call back yet and I have no appointment to go back. Should I seek another neurologist or what? The one I have been seeing says it has him stumped and said he would call me with the results from the MRI on my neck. I ended up having to call them and the nurse said he said to tell me it was normal and that is the last I have heard from them until I called and told her that I was no better.
Not only am I growing number over the years in my penis, I notice it getting crooked more and more and recently getting smaller and thinner in certain areas during an erection. I can get an erection and I can ejaculate but I have less and less sensation to the touch and when ejaculating to the point I think it is about gone. I do not think this is in my head but it is affecting my whole life. I have been sent to a neurologist and he said I have no nerve injuries.
I have not had a headache in four months but still have occasional numbness and tingling in the left side of my head. My numbness started in mid June along the front of my thighs and I also felt like my legs were "weak". I could still do everything I normally do, I just didn't feel as strong. In late June the twitching started again. After two months it is now all over my body from the neck down. I also get cramps in my legs and feet.
when i visited him he said that a couple of my teeth were loose and he didn't think i had any gum disease... but he put me on cipro and set me up to see a different specialist....he said there might be some starting problems with my root canal.....my lips are really numb and I don't know what i can do about all of this....What can i do?
Also around my mouth. When I first started having them, they were very bad and started after being on cipro (antibiotic) for 3 days. I'm also allergic to several other antibiotics (almost all of them). This didn't happen until a few years ago. (I'm now 34 years old.) I still don't have any answers, but I'm not giving up hope. I believe there's something going on. I don't believe I'm depressed. The only thing that depresses me are these strange sensations.

I was tested for al sexually transmitted diseases and all were negative and also received MRI and scan. My symptoms have increased from leg numbness and tingling(occasional burning) to knee stiffness and back pain ans stiffness. I can barely lift anything or walk a short distance without feeling wear and tear in my knees and back. I'm to young to feel this way. So far I have not received any diagnosis or not even a hint of what is wrong with me.

I read somewhere I could have got nerve damage from taking a quinolone, which affects the central nervous system, and eventually the cardiac muscle. I have had cipro for a UTI a few months ago. Doctor thinks I am talking rubbish.
There is no drooping at this point. The numbness is only affecting my lip, upper lip, side of nose and up to my bottom eyelid only on the right side. My doctor gave me some predisone to help with any inflammation that may be causing the numbness. I feel like I have no idea what is going on with my face and I am not sure if my doctor does either. I don't have any symptoms of Bell's Palsy, except for the numbness/tingling sensation. What should I do?
I noted some of the other symptoms and guess what? After my staph infection and taking cipro i got pancreatitis and they couldn't figure out what caused it. hmmmmmm still don't know what's going on with me but I will be researching this.
Have you checked what drugs did you take the months before the onset of your pain? Many medicines (some antibiotics like cipro and levaquin, statins, inmunodepressive agents and others are known to cause the disorders that you show). Also, check what other chemicals you are exposed to during your leisure time and at work. Just to rule out an intoxication.
