Cipro and kidney stones

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro and kidney stones

cipro

Avatar f tn ve heard they are. I get kidney-stones chronically, and from time to time, a get one that causes intermittent (colicky) pain that's quite bearable. And another thing, not all kidney-stones cause hematuria (blood in the urine). If your doctor thinks that all stones cause blood in the urine, then I'd say that you need to get yourself another doctor that know what the hell their talking about, because she obviously doesn't.
Avatar f tn I went to the ER 5 times and was prescribed 3 different antibiotics and given antibiotics in house for STDs that came back with a negative result. In early November, I had a UTI and was given Cipro for 3 days. That did not help. I went back and they gave me Cipro for 10 days. That did not help. Then they gave me Levaquin for 7 days. I finished all of the antibiotics but I am still experiencing flank pain (upper abdominal, lower pelvic area, and upper and lower back).
Avatar f tn I have a 15 yr. history with kidney stones. I had my most recent attack 3 weeks ago and it was one of the longest enduring of any I've had, with the most severe flank and ureter pain lasting almost 12 hrs. The last couple hours of the horrible pain, I experienced what I would almost call spasms very low down, and I've never had that before in any of the other attacks. I had waves of pain and the urge to urinate every few minutes.
Avatar f tn Hello, It is good that the scan has come out clear for any kidney stones. Causes can be divided according to the affected organ and they are Kidney conditions (infection, pyelonephritis, kidney stones, polycystic kidney disease), Bladder conditions (cystitis, bladder polyp, bladder tumor), Urethral conditions (Sexually transmitted diseases, urethral injury, vaginal inflammation), and certain bleeding disorders. It can be due to chronic UTI or vaginitis also.
535822 tn?1443976780 First of all I have kidney stones ever present inside my kidney. They don't usually cause problems. About 3-4 weeks ago, I started having symptoms resembling a stomach bug (diarrhea) and fatigue for a couple of days, then started having flank pain. Went to urgen care and they gave me 3 days worth of cipro. She said I had a "few" white blood cells in my urine, but that was all. She also ordered a CT scan.
Avatar n tn I was recently within the last month diagnosed with a kidney stone that lead to a UTI. I finished a 7 day treatment of cipro yesterday and the UTI symptons went away, but my both my sides still hurt randomly from time to time. Should I be concerned?
620923 tn?1452915648 2 days later I was in the ER for the worst pain ever.....I had a US b4 the cipro I forgot to mention, no stones were seen, and in teh ER they said the infection was clear, and I had no stones, but did have some diverticulitis ....would that be the cause of this excruciating pain? Or could it be that when the flow was slow I had a stone and it passed?I am confused and have no answers. I was told since they did not see any stones it was unlikely....

Avatar m tn Hello, I'm going through the same thing invisible444 has right now. Today was my last day of antibiotics and I still have intense pain on my right flank. I also have kidney stones but that was ruled out last Thursday as their was no blood in my urine. I've asked to be referred to a urologist twice already and they just want to fix the problem themselves, but being that I've seen a urologist for my kidney stones before I thought best thing was to continue seeing a urologist.
Avatar f tn I am 39, have Primary Immune Disease, dont make igg, and have had kidney stones 2 times a year since 2001. At moment i have a stone stuck in right ureter and awful right kidney pain. Drs cant figure out why i am getting the stones. I am on potassium citrate 3xd and it does not help. went to ER last nite and they wouldnt do a CT scan because i have had too many over my lifetime(radiation). urine showed high concentration of calcium oxalate so stone is verified.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm 20 years female. On 22 May I was diagnosed with a kidney stone and kidney infection after two months of urinary symptoms on and off. 22 May I started taking stone medicines and antibiotics for an infection I felt better for two weeks almost and the symptoms came back again I went back to the doctor at 31 May to check the stones again he told me only one left and the infection is still there.
Avatar m tn Get a culture sensitivity test for both semen and urine done. Also it could be due to referred pain of kidney stones. An ultrasound of the lower abdomen will be able to rule out kidney stones. It could be due to cancer of testis. It could be due to varicocele or spermatocele. An ultrasound of the testicles will diagnose cancer, varicocele and spermatocele. Painful intercourse can be due to STDs, tight foreskin, infections or scar tissues from previous surgeries. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn He said that I had pus cells is my urine and checked it for tumors, cancers kidney stones and he said it is none of these. He asked me if I have been sexually active and I said yes. I said I had sex with a female in July and 2 days after that I had burning when I urinated. This lasted 3 weeks and then stopped in mid August. Since then I have had no burning at all and no other signs of what in my mind I am thinking could be gonnorhea or chlamydia or trich.
Avatar f tn I have MSK I was diagnosed about 6 years ago and only after 5-6surgeries and move then 100 kidney stones. I feel for anybody who has this as there are time I honestly consider suicide over the pain and being tired of passin stones and being told that there is not much they can do avoid calcium and protein.. good luck with that one. Since almost everything has both in it. Again my heart goes out to all you guys suffering from this.
Avatar f tn Had to get a ultrasound todau and I have trying to look up healthy ultrasounds of kidneys vs unhealthy or kidney stones and cancer vs healthy with no luck I might add. if you have any info please let me know thanks for your time reading this.
Avatar n tn They suspect kidney stones. No stones found. The doctor at hospital emerg says the kidney looks somewhat inflamed in CT as if it may have recently been infected or is newly infected, suggests I tell my doctor that CT reveals the diverticulae in my left abdomen (which she finds curious and worth noting though the pain is in my right side). The ache is such that it is uncomfortable to lay on my stomach, wear a belt or lean over. I went to my doctor who suggested I had diverticulitis.
Avatar n tn The CT scan showed an inflamed kidney. The doctor now believes a kidney infection and has prescribed cipro and Tylenol and Ibuprofen for pain. After 5 days, the pain (while not constant) has not diminished. He often has the chills and a fever that runs 2-3 degrees above normal. One other (possibly not related) issue is that his pain is usually most significant early morning (possibly due to 8 hours of sleep with no tylenol/ibuprofen).
5463760 tn?1368383965 m just a patient like you, but please stop back and let us know what your docs say regarding your test results, etc. Kidney stones can cause pain and sometimes not show up, too, like mine. But usually they do. Actually a CT Scan w/o dye is the gold standard for finding them unlike ultrasound or CT with dye. But, I guess the dye would show other areas of blockage maybe . not sure.
Avatar n tn I had a confirmed UTI in mid September. 5 days ago (Sat), I began symptoms again---extreme pain while urinating & difficulty emptying my bladder. Next day (Sun), I go to Urgent Care who takes a urine sample & says I have a UTI, gives me Cipro 500mb BID & sends me home. By Mon morning, the burning is unbearable & I see my gynecologist nurse practitioner. She swabs my vagina & takes another urine sample.
168348 tn?1379357075 s from what our Urologists have told us is because of likely biofilm infection deep inside kidney stones which are produced by those who have MSK (Medullary Sponge Kidney) on an ongoing basis? The stones are a by-product of MSK and are deep within the medullary and take a long time (if ever) to pass out. The antibiotics taken seem to rid the UTI for awhile only for them to come back continuosly.
788075 tn?1366513312 High uric acid Puss in urine Small crystals present He said that he believes it is a minor non-transmittable UTI and prescribed 500mg Cipro / 2 x day/ 5 days. Told me to cut down on red meat intake to lower uric acid. Does this seem accurate? Asking as this clinic is in Iraq and highly questionable. Thanks!
798555 tn?1292787551 Yes, I have taken Cipro this past year more than any person should, but it was for documented --potentially life threatening -- UTI or kidney stone related infections including hydronephrosis. I stay away from any of the fluro's at all cost and beg for an alternative antibiotic because of the warning above. But some of my infections have been so serious there's the risk/benefit.
Avatar f tn Recurrent urine infections could be due to various reasons. Most common cause is stones in kidney which is blocking urine pathway. The urine can also be due to retention of urine anywhere in its flow due t obstruction. The obstruction can be due to abnormality of structures since birth, stones or diseases like tumors. You need to consult a urologist and get an ultrasound done to rule out all these causes.
Avatar f tn I have been on 3 different antibiotics in the last month trying to fight a UTI. How come it won't go away? I finished each round of each med. First I took sulfameth for 10 days it seemed to help but two days after I finished it the UTI came back so I took cephalexin for 14 days it didn't seem to work as well as the first one but I finished it.
211940 tn?1267881266 Stan, You may be one of the few that admits to it or talks about it. At 49, I have passed a few stones and had a few kidney infections.
