Cipro and hives

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro and hives

cipro

I have been on Cipro on and off since 1994. Cipro has allways worked very well for me. I have not experienced side effects from this drug. I have had other antibiotics prescribed to me that did have some negative side effects. In my case Sulfa drugs causes hives. From 1994 up to 2003, I used to come down with UTI and kidney infections that required hospitalizations with a frequency of about every 3 to 4 months.
I was prescribed Cipro for a UTI on wednesday. I started taking it and noticed little bumps on my vagina. I had all my STD screenings done over 8 months ago, and have been with the same partner since then. Could this just be a slight skin irritation to the Cipro or is it something I should be more concerned about? Thanks in advance.
Hello, I recently developed diverticulitis again. My doctor prescribed Cipro and Flagyl as he had in the past. 5 days into the treatment, I started to get hives on my hands and feet a swollen lower lip. Called the on call doc and he said it was probably a reaction to the Cipro. Ordered both it and Flagyl be stopped and called a script for Bactrim instead as well as Benadryl. The Benadryl helped with the hives (and a good night's sleep LOL) but in the morning they returned.
I have not had any more of the pains since being off the Cipro the past 2 days. So, I have to surmise that it was the Cipro that my system did not like. I would still take it again, if I had no choice because of an infection, but I don't like it. I am allergic (deathly allergic) to Penicillin. I had anaphyllactic shock from it and almost died. I haven't ever even had some that bad even on my Hep C treatments.
My husband has been diagnosed with diverticulitis and is being treated with Flagyl and Cipro. He now has a fever and terrible stomach pain and a hives like rash on his face and a slight fever. He has had three doses and I am wondering what to do.
The doctor said it looked like folliculitis but may be infected. He originally was going to give me cipro (antibiotic) and prednisone, but said after consulting his literature was just going to do the prednisone and hydroxy something. He then gave me a shot of solumedrol. Well within one hour my entire body, every part head to toe was bright red and covered in severely itchy hives.
Hello, From the symptoms it definitely sounds like hives. Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. They have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours. Many cases of hives are "idiopathic," meaning no cause is known. Others may be triggered by viral infections or medications.
I was told to continue my dosage of Cipro adn to take Benadryl. After I was done with the Cipro, I still had hives. My hives would be very itchy, swollen adn would come on one part of my body, then after a couple of minutes dissapear and appear on another part. I was given Preginsone for 5 days and continued with the Benadryl. This did nothing. Then I was given Reactin which helped reduce the amount of hives and the itch. I was on Reactine for a bit over a week.
My 6 year old son has been getting hives now everyday for about 2 months. He sounds a lot like your condition. When he plays really rough he gets hives. When he gets hot in school he gets hives. I am so worried that he has some sort of a medical condition that we don't know of that is causing these hives. Lately his eyes look sickly to me. I know I worry about him alot but after all he is my baby. I wish I had some answers.
At the time, I found the Cipro very difficult to take (fatigue, shortness of breath, anxiety) but I did finish the course. Two weeks ago, the symptoms returned. Urologist said my prostate was inflamed and prescribed another course of Cipro. This time, it made me incredibly fatigued. I consulted the doctor and he said to discontinue and watch and see because maybe the inflammation is not an infection. The symptoms did get better for a few days then came back.
Slight indication of infection/soreness at incisor site prior to cipro. Docs not back till tomorrow, do I not ingest todays dosage?
I had an allergic reaction to this (hives wheezing itching and shakiness) so was told by the doctor to stop taking it. I'm now on ciprofloxacin 250 mg (five day course) and have just had the first dose. I'm really freaking though in case I have another allergic reaction. I have penicillin allergy anyway (again, hives etc) and now this with the Macrodanting. Is cipro ok for people with the two above allergies? many thanks.
I been having Black Stool for about 2 weeks now ,I been taking Cipro for 8 days it started with a bout of Diverticulitis This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/228471'>Blood in Stool</a>.
I don't know of a burning sensation to be a side effect of Cipro. Also, it does not at this point sound like an allergic reaction. I think I would wait and see how the course of antibiotic goes. If you develop any signs of an allergic reaction (hives, generalized redness, swelling, swollen tongue, etc.) then stop taking the medication and let your doctor know. It is possible that the sensation you are feeling could be from your sinuses. Good luck.
I am being treated for a respiratory infection with Cipro 500mg BId and I am taking prednisone 11 mg for my RA. This morning I noticed a raised red rash on my old incisions. Knees and abdomen. Still feeling worn out.
At Easter I had a UTI and went to a ready care to get treated. I was given Cipro. I took it for about 4 or 5 days and had bad hives. I am also allergic to a bunch of other antibiotics. About two weeks ago, i got the UTI back, got pyridium, ibuprophen and macrobid. Got hives from the macrobid and had to stop. Developed horrid migraine with lots of dizziness. I went to the family doc who ordered a urine test, blood work, and gave us zophran. (also had gotton that from ready care.
I was on ciprofloxacin for a week for a urinary tract infection when this all started happening. I also had bacterial eye infection. During the cipro course, I've had bright yellow stools, which never completely went back to brown. I have tried taking probiotic supplements and foods. I am not suspecting celiac, but I've never had issues with gluten. I had a general blood test done, a chest X-ray and a stool toxicity test which all came back fine.

I have now for about the last year been suffering with anxiety issues and hives continiously as well as pains in the joints of my fingers.
I then got severe diarrhea that sent me to a clinic here. I was diagnosed with a bacterial infection and given Cipro 500mg and another medicine for the diarrhea. Two days after my medication was finished (he only gave me 3 days worth) I began to have an itchy rash appear around my toes. I applied Benadryl cream which did not help. It began to spread to the top and bottom of my foot and I tried hydro cortisone cream which did not help.
He went to the doctor who prescribed methylprednisolone. Over the next couple of days, the hives dissipated. Five days after the hives, he developed a sharp pain in his left side. He again went to the doctor. The doctor initially thought he had a urinary tract infection but my son reported no pain in urination, no frequent urination, and the urinalysis did not confirm the diagnosis. The doctor sent him for a CT scan. The CT scan showed an inflamed kidney.
I had this problem once before and Cipro did the job, no problem; but not this time. The Doctor then put me on steroids and it took care of the swelling and got me back to normal externally. But I am now experiencing an internal ithch that I cannot handle. It is somewhat erotic, but it drives me crazy because I cannot stop messing with it. The itch intensifies as you try to relieve yourself of the discomfort. It happens about 3 times daily.
I just got checked by an ENT and she thought I might have a sinus infection due to the dripping in my throat and gave me Cipro which my body couldn't handle and I broke out in hives, test came back negative. I feel like my right ear is filled with liquid yet when my ENT looked in there she said everything looked normal. I was just wondering if anyone else with Chiari has had any issues similar to mine and if so what did you or your doctor find.
Nonetheless, a few hours later, she broke out in hives. She took benadryl, and the hives were gone in a few hours. Next week we had sex again with a latex condom without spermicide. She, again, broke out in hives. Took another benadryl, and the symptoms went away. A few days later, she was complaining of itching and burning when she urinated. Went to the doc and they confirmed a UTI. Gave her Cipro for a week and it went away.
There was slight blood in my urine, and it took 2 more doctor visits over the span of a week for the prostatitis diagnosis to be made. I was first put on Cipro (500mg twice daily) but was having some bad side effects from that, and a week ago I was switched to Bactrim (500mg twice daily). While I was on the Cipro, my prostatitis symptoms were fine.
She said lets watch it but treat the hives first. I was given a steroid injection and sent home. The hives went away after about 7 days and all seemed back to normal. One day out of nowhere I began getting a bitter/metal taste in my mouth. No matter what I did it always seemed to creep back in. So did that annoying right side pain. In early November I noticed I had to urinate more frequently. I thought maybe I had a UTI so I bought some of sticks to test your urine on.
Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be hives or allergic reaction. Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. They have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours. Sometimes the treatment for hives i.e. antihistaminics and steroids have to be taken for few weeks like 4-6 weeks.

I am literally hospitalized about every 3-4 months for weeks at a time for IV antibiotics to reduce the colonies. (I am colonized with PA, cepacia, staph and others). My cultures reveal that Cipro and its cousins would work well as well as Bactrim against my infections, only problem is that I am allergic to them. Cipro and Levaquin is an immediate reaction, last time it was given to me nearly a decade ago, I got hives as it was being infused into me and my throat began to swell.
