Cipro and heart palpitations

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro and heart palpitations

cipro

I have taken cipro a lot too and it hasn't bothered me before. But I recently took it and after 1 dose my heart started acting weird. Any antibiotic of that class can cause heart palpitations. Unfortunately, most of the antibiotics I can take have that potential side effect, I'm allergic to penicillin.
A heart Cath., Sx. ? I barely got any sleep wondering what was next. My Mom and Dad both had heart disease and I am some what frieghtened to say the least. I am only 42.
Present day news reports are saying avoid Erythromycin and it is my understanding that the Z-pac is the same drug. If you are on an anti-arrythmic like Norpace or Rythmol you are not supposed to take these drugs or anything ending in "mycin." I believe they are called macrolide drugs. one post on this board was from a woman on Norpace who was prescribed such an antibiotic and it put her in the ICU. This information is from the manufacturers inserts.

continued Now, I have these awful palpitations all the time. My heart gets to 200 bpm (mostly in the night but it happens during the day too) and my heart feels like it is doing somersaults, I get skipped beats too, and I get an odd premonition of the skipped beats...I sort of get an odd feeling in my forhead, then the beat skips, , then I get a flush feeling in my head, then I burp! I also get feelings like my heart has actually stopped for a second...

I HAD BEEN on LOPRESSOR FOR SEVERAL YEARS FOR THE ARRYTHMIAS , BUT THE DOCS TOOK ME OFF IT ABOUT A MonTH AGO AND STARTED ME on CARDIZEM. THAT MADE ME FEEL EVEN MORE AWFUL SO THEY STOPPED IT AFTER 2 DAYS AND TOLD ME TO STAY OFF THE LOPRESSOR AS WELL. NOW I AM WAITING FOR THE FOLLOW UP APPT WITH THE CARDIOLOGIST, BUT FEEL PRETTY AWFUL MUCH OF THE TIME, LIGHTHEADED AND EXHAUSTED.
palpitations and heart-rate disruptions. I am convinced there is a connection between the two problems, perhaps due to the medication. I searched the internet for a long time, but didn't find anything. Untill I queried: palpitations and pariet. That's when I found your forum. I am a bit desperate, and very eager to solve my problems. Hope to find help!?

It startded with alot of severe lightheadedness, then lead to preasure in my left temple, which after a day moved to my head and neck. I also can hear my heart beat inside my head, and have spells of high blood preasure and rappid heart beat. I got sick unexpectedly on next day after coming in Dominican Republic 3 month ago(in July).it was fatique, disiness, feeling chilly, sweatness of legs and hands and softening of stool.one week later it was a little better and than 5-7 days later my fatique and bloating with excessive gas increased,.
I was telling him how it's much better to have your own teeth long-term. I've also heard there are correlations between heart disease and dental problems : ( Double whammy!! After so many years of taking the antibiotics, I was actually a little nervous about not taking in for my last cleaning. I sure hope the new research is VERY accurate! Take care. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
I think they gave me me zithromax and then cipro. I've read that one of those has a reaction on the heart so who knows what really got the palps to stop.
stomach nausea so I wasn't eating nothing but chicken broth, water, wheat crackers, jello. sucked big time. And she put me back on Cipro this time for 10 days and they scheduled me for a sonogram of my stomach, liver spleen, etc. that came back w/ a result of a enlarged spleen & I tested positive for EBV @ this point I never even heard of EBV. So it's been almost 4 weeks been through bouts of extreme tiredness and weakness just pass out @ random.
Who knows? I also have extreme fatigue alot, headaches and heart palpitations, and alot of stomach issues. I also pass kidney stones frequently(not sure that is related). I could probably name 50 more if I could remember them all at once.LOL! I wish you the best in your journey to good mental and physical health.
difficulty sleeping and no feeling rested when I awake. 9. heart palpitations (PVCs) that come and go. 10. severe anxiety that is pretty much under control at the moment. 11. sometimes I get a very tired feeling 30 minutes after eating and other times the fatigue can be eleviated by eating. I look at these symptoms and the only thing I can tie them all down to is hypoglycemia. I'm going to the doctor next week for his opinion and a blood test. Anyone else have an opinion?
In the spring she noticed that she felt emotional all of the time and never wanted to go out with her friends like she used to. By May 2007, she was experiencing heart palpitations (she had to have an EKG!) and had managed to gain ~10 pounds on her 98 lb frame. Her breasts had gained a cup size and she now had stretch marks on her thighs and hips. All of this was worse than the PMS!! Even though the Drs. wouldn't admit that the heart palpitations were due to the pill- we know they were.
I've got that horrible feeling in my chest and chest pains and palpitations. I feel really agitated and don't know how to make it go away. I hate feeling like this. Hope it passes soon. Can anxiety harm a person?
I changed my diet, stopped drin king alcohol and started to excersise more and stopped taking some suppliments like Magnisium, that I read may cause irregular heart beats and all seemed to subside and the blood pressure has stayed between 140/90 to 120/80. 3) WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW: Right after the last episode with the bleeding urine FINISHED or subsided, I have had very fluctuating blood pressure rising early in the moring to 130/90 and then falling to 110/65 sometimes.
I wake up about every 1 to 2 hours with the pain, pounding heart, dizziness and sweating. I eat a granola bar and fall back asleep for a bit until I wake up with the same thing again. Mornings are horrible. When I wake up I feel dizzy, faint, hungry, and the gnawing hunger pain in my stomach. I've gained 10 pounds because I eat all the time, and I'm don't exercise anymore because of the pain and fear that I'll faint.

the 10/3/13 ones came closest to indicating hyper. I had heart palpitations and pounding heart beat when I was severely hypo. My TSH has been < 0.01 for over 5 years and I've never been hyper, once. Just to make sure I understand, am I correct that the latest labs, listed in your original are the latest and you were on 50 mcg unithroid and 60 mg Armour?
And turns out that the dizziness and akmost passing out is because of my heart rate increasing and palpitations. It isn't dangerously high, but it's the fact that it lasts for hours and when i am at rest. So i am being referred to a cardiologist now (especially with my family history). So that for now is my main concern because my heart rate os keeping me from sleeping, which in turn keeps me from getting over being sick quickly. So blah.
Often it clears up once the medication is discontinued/ended. I've taken Cipro a couple of times now and I'm prone to arrhythmias LOL and never noticed any difference while on the med. My albuterol for asthma cranks up my heart rate but only for 10 minutes or so. If anyone is concerned about a side effect from a medication, particularly a heart effect, ask the doctor or pharmacist. It would be a shame to avoid some very helpful medications because they might cause a side effect.
Thurs AM 3/28 Bad reaction to steroids (violent mood swings and heart palpitations). Fri PM 3/29 Find a lump in my right breast. Sat AM 3/30 Worsening tummy symptoms. Dr sends me to the lab to do stool sample. (lots of fun with one arm) Four ER visits in one week!!! I sure hope my luck changes soon. This is all pretty overwhelming.
I recall having what I thought was a heart attack when I was 13, pain in my heart area, it got worse when I inhaled too, I was scared but it passed and then the pain would go from place to place . . . arm, leg, abdomin . . . This seems to correlate with some muscle twitching I get. Recently I've been getting this around my neck and temples too which is probably due to anxiety and panic which I have been in a constant state of recently regarding a head injury . . .
