Cipro and grapefruit

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro and grapefruit

cipro

I had a lower GI test done in '04 and was told that my pain was divertuculitis. In early '05 I had a flex-sigmoidoscopy and later a colonoscopy. I was given Flagyl and Cipro and it took away the pain. I also changed my diet (eliminating seeds, high fats, etc) and increasing fiber along with Metamucil. It was explained to me that the diverticulitis was widely spread, but could be controlled through diet and awareness. My doctor retired and I changed to a new primary care provider in '05.
, along with several other herbs listed, during the course of my trial on the Prove 3. I was not allowed grapefruit juice either. Certain antibiotics such as Cipro weren't even allowed. No nasal steroids were allowed. I don't remember about Sam-A and ginger, but I imagine that they were not allowed either. These guidelines were set up by both the trial managers and the drug company, so I think that there must be a good reason for it.
By this time I was beginning to get concerned so I went to a family doctor in the town where I live and she diagnosed me as having a sinus infection and placed me on an antibiotic (Cipro). I took the full ten day dose and still had the headache so I called her and she changed the antibiotic to penicillin. I took that for a few days and still had the headache (now going on for two weeks) so I went into an ENT doctor.
Thanks for sharing. I have been on some and am on others.
I looked into herbal treatments and apparantly grapefruit seed extract is good and in health food stores you can find worm/parasite herbal remedies. I have read that it usually takes a while before any improvement is seen. Another important thing to do is to try your best to keep your immune system strong. This will help your body fight b. hominis. Try taking raw garlic. Also, if b. hominis is in the colon, you might want to mix the grapefruit seed extract with grape seed oil.
I too feel that doctors aren't doing enough and don't seem to fully understand how awful allergies can be. Until i got diagnosed with a specialist i felt like my doctor didn't really believe it was anything. Its so frustrating when you know your own body but you feel people don't understand. Ive felt ive had to push all the time for help and finally ive got diagnosed. Some use that is though when nothing helps me.
Antibiotics are not available in the United States without a physician's precription. And most physicians disapprove of someone keeping an "emergency supply". Recent changes in the law permit HIV patients to obtain anti-biotics without a prescriptionj provided they fill out a form. There are little "underground" pharmacies, You have to fill out a form (put down any name).
Ive been back to my dr twice to get help and had an ultrasound done about 3 months ago that didnt reveal anything, Ive been on 2 different antibiotics, one was Cipro, the dr said the testicle would drop and the pain would subside. it hasnt. any help would be great. thanks, Jeff.
However, he said it could NOT be causing me so much pain. He checked out my arm and noticed a hard soft tissue knot, and suggested removing it through surgery and it "might" relieve my pain. So, 3 weeks ago I had the said surgery and it was removed (a hard soft tissue mass about the size of a marble). No, this was not the cyst inside my humerus bone. Anyways, I still have the pain, and it is extremely terrible at night (on a scale of 1 to 10, a 20 at night).
I began 6 days ago ParaGone as wells as taking grapefruit seed extract and fiber for regularity- because constipation is now more prevalent. This is a 35day minimum treatment. But I still am tired even though I can eat, and I am eating only veg and whole grains, legumes etc. as a recommendation from the parasite cleanse. I am still losing weight and the thinner I get I think my stomach gets larger. I am 5'6 between 125-130 lbs. and I look about 6/7 months pregnant.
I would advise against Levoxin because it is a muscularly punishing drug and you require all your energy and resources in a disaster. Ut will work, however. Check with your doctor. Most are VERY gun shy these days about "prescribing for just in case". This is a litiginous society, I suppose. You can obntain these dryson the internet, but store them according to instructions and replace them when the expiration date occurs.
I am sensitive to the antibiotics I took (flagyl and Cipro) I took Typhiod immunization, and Hep A injection prior to leaving. Could this be something not related to my travels? About a week ago my boyfriend got fever, chills, body aches, nausea, diarrhea really bad for about 48 hours, we thought it was food poisoning he got from a chicken skewer he ate in chinatown (we live right next to Chinatown). But still a week later he has diarrhea and severe bloating like mine.
I have been to about 30 doctors- including ENT's allergists, neurologists, chiropracters, opthamologists. psychologists, dentists and everything else u can think of. All CT scans, MRI of brain and blood work keep coming back clean and ok. Nothing I try seems to work. There was a period of time about 3 and a half years ago that the symptoms lifted for about 4 months and then it returned full force.
I originally came down with diarhea and quite some blood in the stool. A locum doctor prescribed Cipro and sent me back home. Diarhea change to not being able to go for more than five days. Our family doctor admitted me and I spent the following week in hospital. The specialist told the family doctor to attempt enemas and oral laxatives. Our family doctor is not pleased with the results and told me that there seems to be a section of the bowel that did not clear, it remained obstructed.
Report siad completed opacification of left maxillary, left frontal, and most of ethmoid but not left spenoid or anything on right side. ENT reccomended surgery only way to treat and cure. Also siad he thinks I may have poylps or something blocking, GP read CT report and siad it did not show any poypls or anything out of ordinary just bad infection and filled with fluid.
I have on antibiotics (Cipro) and antifungal (fluconazole) for about 7 days - it dosn’t seem to be working. Any help would be appreciated…..The sad part in all this is I am not a promiscuous guy and barely even go out much --- just one bad mistake after drinking too much and now I am afraid I may have something I have to deal with this the rest of my life :-(.
I have had muscle aches, twitching and numbness and tingling in the legs, and sometimes arms and then two days ago, the weirdest foggiest feeling in my head. Flu like symptoms, and lack of sleep. And I have been kind of anxious and depressed. And I am not normally that way. I stopped the Premarin on Wed, and the Nitrofur on Thursday. Am wondering now about the synthroid. I have to call and check. They are blaming this on some weird virus attacking my nervous system that is going around.
So for example, if you take a blood pressure medication that is metabolized by CYP3A4, inhibiting this enzyme with grapefruit juice may raise the levels of the blood pressure med in your blood and IN YOUR LIVER....and it can cause an overdose (and your blood pressure to go down too low). So if you want to lower your viral load by drinking grapefruit juice, you'll need to make sure that you're not taking any meds that are metabolized by CYP450.
Anyway, they eventually decided the reason I kept getting them was because the mass I had removed was so large, it bent my uriters and did not allow them to empty completely into my bladder. After taking another course of Cipro 6 weeks ago with no results, I had my bladder cauterized. Urologist actually went in with a scope and laser and cauterized the infection off the bladder wall. It helped tremendously! Not sure if yours would come to something like that, but it really did help.
There is tindamax and Flagyl. Then there are naturals, grapefruit seed essential oils or capsules.
The key words here are cytochromes, P 450, hepatoxicity, inhibitors and inducers PAUSING TO MARVEL-The liver’s job is to break down drugs, make them usable, soluable, removing their hydrophobia and preparing them for the body, and for excretion as well. The liver is the most phenomenal organ in the human body, performing millions of complex chemical conversions everyday, and replacing tired worker cells 5 times faster than elsewhere in the body.
After a week in our local hospital my scrotum had turned blue and black and was the size of a very large grapefruit, the left side had split open. I was taken to the city hospital and the urologist filling in for the one that was on vacation got me in the OR at 11:30pm the day before my birthday. When I woke up I was in severe pain. Doctor and interns came in and explained that the left testicle and tissues and muscles around it had been removed due to the infection.
Our family doctor at the time said that it was orchitis and prescribed Cipro and told me to come back if I did not improve after one day. On our way home I had a strong urge to urinate, so I had my wife pull over our van so I could relieve myself beside the van. My wife and children told me that they heard a bang against the van, and when they looked they noticed me lying on the ground next to the van. My wife and our two 8 and 9 y/o sons mangaged to get me into the van on the floor.
Never went away, until I started my Lyme meds, a few months ago. Only took 2-3 weeks, after starting the meds and my nail was healed and didn't come back, until last week. I can't take the meds for fungus. Lamasil was one of those meds. Nothing I did for fungus worked. Even tried Mentholatum, but it turned the black to a yucky green and looked like moss. Used that procedure daily for months, but didn't work. This is why I'm thinking it could be Lyme related.
It works incredibly well with bacterial and viral infections, and some but not all fungal infections. The Flip-Turn is the original, and still the best Sinus Flush. WARNING! DISCLAIMER! The technique in this manual involves bending over in a hot shower. Obviously, if you bend over in a shower, there is a slight possibility that you can get dizzy and fall down. You could possibly hit your head, get knocked out, or break something.
He specualted that I might have a prostate infection, and lacking more information, put me on Cipro in hopes that the antibiotic would make the pain go away. He advised a Urology consult if the pain persisted. The pain does not seem to me to be in the prostate area, but what do I know? The pain is still there. Now I have become partially constipated, passing only small, slimy/watery, yellow stoools several times per day. I am not evacuating nearly as much as usual.
Both Endoscopies found a puddle of bile in my stomach and my colon had a bacterial infection (possibly unrelated). Right now I am on Cipro (for infection), a specific Probiotic, and an ulcer medication (which is supposed to coat the stomach to protect from bile). The last eight months have been horrible. I had to have my Gallbladder out due to the excruciating pain but this is ridiculous!!!
I have had chronic bacterial infections in my sinuses, tonsels and throat for the past two months and have been on many rounds of antibiotics, my infections are gone but I was left with a strong deep cough and now phlegm and swelling in my throat. No doctors have been able to tell me what it could be, my ear nose throat specialist said it was most likely acid reflux disease, but I don't buy that.
they gave me zpack (didn't work), prednisone (didn't work), Amoxicillan (didn't work) and am now on Cipro (2days and doesn't seem like it is working). Been waiting to see an ENT and finally got in for tomorrow. After reading all of these posts I am assuming I probably have a fungal ear infection. I have never had an ear infection in my life but do have bad sinus problems. Whats strage though is that I haven't had a sinus infection in about 10 months.
I went to the doc and they indeed confirmed the infection, and prescribed me a 7 day dosage of Cephalexin. After 7 days, there were still some lingering symptoms of the infection, so they prescribed me another 7 day course. I am at the end of that course and the sinusitis is gone. However, just yesterday, I started itching all over and today I've noticed small, faint red bumps scattered all over my body essentially.
