There are some bacteria in the gut that produce hydrogen sulfide gas. This gas has a smell of rotten eggs. Most of this gas comes from sulfites a person consumes, which is a part of all preservatives. Sulfites are present in all juices, molasses, yellow dye in ready made food stuffs, and red wine. Sulfites are present in lesser amounts in mashed potatoes made from dry powder, pickles, tinned shrimp, cookies, crackers, and readymade pie dough.
3 days later i was hospitalized with infectious colitis. stayed 3 days and they did cat scan(radiation) and had me on flagyl and cipro very strong broad spectrum drugs. ever since then i have occasional gut discomfort and diarrhea. lately i seem to have symptoms more often. i went to a gastroenterologist and he suggest limitiing alcohol consumption.. i stopped drinking my beer and drank tons of milk hoping to soothe my stomach..
I woke up with this issue (gas, cramps and gurgling and pain most likely from gas)on Apr 14, 2015 and have had it ever since. The colon gurgles especially after eating (anything). I release an enormous amount of gas regularly. I have hade constant pain in the upper left quadrant. I have had an abdominal ultrasound which showed some gall bladder sludge; everything else normal. Abdominal CT scan with barium and iodine. No issues.
If someone has a history of UTI's and has no health insurance, why won't a doctor give a patient a refill? Why do I have to pay anywhere between $100 - $200 to go to the bathroom in a cup to confirm what I already know is true because I have had UTI's many times before. At a desperate attempt, I brought all the empty bottles of cipro and other drugs prescribed for my past UTI's to show that this wasn't something I was making up. I hoped the Dr.
All the tests of the stool, urine, ultrasound of gall bladder all came back negative - healthy liver, gall bladder, pancreas and kidneys. I was on Cipro and did fine for one week and now am taking Nexium and starting Culturelle tonight. I had a severe stomach attach for 3 days when tried Lactaid milk. I am now off of Cipro since no bacteria found in stool.
Also, I have had gas & constipation, loss of appetite, bloating & acne. These could be both pregnancy & pms symptoms, but it's only been 5 days since intercourse.
He felt my stomach and said I probably had an infection! He prescribed 2 antibiotics. Cipro and Flaygl. I had Cipro before so ok but after reading the potental side effects of the other I decided not to take it. I called the office and asked to be prescribed something else. They said since I am allergic to penicillin that flaygl was the only other antibiotic they could prescribe. I said I did not want to take it. The nurse said ok I will let him know that! This Dr. was referred by my obgyn.
t know yet whether it is cancer but I do feel that if it is cancer it is located in the rectum or anus. I just finished a round of Cipro for a bladder infection and while I was on the antibiotic my rear felt a lot better. Now that I am off of the medicine which I only had a 3 day supply I can feel it getting worse again. I wonder if I could possibly have infection in the area which could cause this.
I had a recent bout with pouchitis and took Cipro and Flagyl (and yogurt) . The Cipro made me feel normal again and reduced frequency to 5-7 x's a day- I felt good! When I came off the Cipro the high frequency diarrhea problem returned. I go every 6 hrs at about 4 trips per. I am so beat down by a lack of sleep and stress from this that I am ready to die!!! Given I have young kids this is not an option though, if I didn't it would be.
I had a UTI for a few weeks and I've been on macrobid, then they switched me to cipro after 3 days of that. I have three days of pills left (of ten) and I've been having a hell of a time with it. I had my gallbladder removed years ago, but I'm having pain where it used to be if I bend over or move the wrong way. Could this just be the cipro, or my kidneys being ornery? Thanks!
Things were starting to appear better with the diarrhea and then i got really constipated with abdominal right side pain,gas bloating and tenderness of the abdominal area. This is also including extra fiber and water intake. What can be causing this? I had a endoscopy and colonoscopy done 4 years ago nothing showed other then i could possibly have ibs and a sensitivity to wheat germ. no problems since then until the course of antibiotics....
I have taken Cipro for Urniary Tract Infections on and off for about 7 years. Last year the frequency of infections was about every 2 months. This winter I have had less than a month between symptoms. My doctor gave me a prescription for Macrobid in case I need it. I have taken it for the first time the past three days and the infection is still quite apparent especially during the night when I can feel the internal discomfort.
Be careful with using Cipro and other antibiotics and use it only as directed by your Physician. I was misdiagnoised with a urinary tract infection that time showed it wasn't and was prescribed Cipro. This drug and others in its class have a nasty side effect - mine was labral tears of the right shoulder and right hip.

Im traveling in mexico and got pretty sick (my best guess is it was 'Travelers Diarrhea' or maybe food poisioning) I went to the pharmacy and got 500mg Cipro pills. I took one and got a horrible headache and vomitted alot. My symptoms seem to be gone however would it be a bad idea to stop taking the Cipro? I know people say you should always finish a course of antibiotics but in this case I dont know if I need them.

I have taken cipro a lot too and it hasn't bothered me before. But I recently took it and after 1 dose my heart started acting weird. Any antibiotic of that class can cause heart palpitations. Unfortunately, most of the antibiotics I can take have that potential side effect, I'm allergic to penicillin.

I have problems with UTI and kidney infections on a regular basis. I have been on Cipro on and off since 1994. Cipro has allways worked very well for me. I have not experienced side effects from this drug. I have had other antibiotics prescribed to me that did have some negative side effects. In my case Sulfa drugs causes hives.
From 1994 up to 2003, I used to come down with UTI and kidney infections that required hospitalizations with a frequency of about every 3 to 4 months.
is it safe to take 125 mg of cipro each day for 6 months I was prescribed this for a UTI that keeps coming back. Also the pharmacy that filled the prescription gave me 250mg tablets and told me they aren't made in 125mg. and for me to break in half . But the info that comes with the meds says not to break.crush, or chew.
no, it will effect the medication and either make it not work or intensfy. it will say on the bottle of the medication not to take the meds. with alcohol.
Also, my food intake drastically changes how my body feels (specifically my left side, left kidney area, gas pressure and buildup and groin pain). If I eat a standard size meal or more, most of my symptoms get worse. If I lay off food and stick to one to two bite meals scattered throughout the day, my body seems to handle that better. Or just not eat at all and stick with water or diet shakes.
I had to take 20 days of Cipro for prostate infection. The e coli count was > 100,000. It took 4 or 5 day to take the temperature down and then it was a matter of getting through the 20 days. Right after I got off of Cipro (~2days) I was feeling constipated, A week after (yesterday) I realized my spleen was swollen (first time ever). Wife is a nurse and new where it was located.
Please be very careful with Cipro. Look up all the side effects of this on the computer ASAP. I was on cipro 250mg for one month then doctor raised it to 500mg. I no sooner took the larger dose than I started to jerk in sleep and had problems with numbness/tingling in both arms from elbow to finger tips. Shook like i had parkinsons.
I will NEVER take cipro again!
