Cipro and caffeine

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro and caffeine

cipro

I have been to my eye doctors 7 times, and yes, they agree that Cipro can cause floaters and eye problems. It is one of the side effects.
It's really important to drink a lot of water and to avoid caffeine when you're on Cipro. Tendinitis is a common side effect of the drug. Drinking a lot of water and staying away from caffeine should help all of your symptoms. The symptoms will probably last until your body returns to normal, whatever that may be for you.
These reactions are different than those associated with consuming too much caffeine which include jitters, headache, insomnia, and irritability. An uncommon component to caffeine that people experience adverse reactions to is tannins, but it does happen. Tannins are not only found in coffee and soda, but in chocolate and red wine as well. Adverse reactions to herbicides and pesticides used to grow coffee beans is a much more common culprit of adverse reactions.
I have been to my PCP and he took a swab and gave me Cipro. The swab was negative and the Cipro did nothing. He sent me to see a ENT and he put me on a throat spray and still nothing. I saw a second ENT and he had no idea what it was or what was causing it. Any ideas ?
I had a full 5 day cycle of Cipro with no change, and 5 day cycle of Macrobid with no change until 10 days past end of both these cycles. I have lost 11 lbs during the illness so far. (not missed on my part btw) I have evaded the fever finally (dropped below 100 during week 3) and have improved about 50% fatigue wise (I am out of bed and back at work, though noticeably more tired and worn out)but I rested 100% for over two weeks. Now I am back at work.
The pain was still present so he switched me to doxycycline for 4 weeks and told me to avoid caffeine and spicy food. The pain is slightly better, but I still feel this pulling sensation by my left testicle, and sometimes the right. The scrotal skin on the left side tends to cling to my leg after sitting awhile and i need to separate it when rising. It still is uncomfortable to sit, though more tolerable than before, and my lower scrotal area also feels pain when sitting.
Its been three days after I completed my course of Doxycycline and still I feel tired and feverish, also my face is itchy on cheek and around my lips, mild headache, pain in thighs and some times my testicles pain. I have an appointment with urologisit this friday. It will be a great help if you can advise me what it is? based on your experience. IF you need more info,I have posted the same in the STD forum as well. Thanks! Sam.
I wasn't satisfied with that so did some self-evaluation which focused on my diet. After removing caffeine, alcohol, and a few other things my twitching and numbness stopped completely after only 3 days. If I eat the wrong thing they come back within 12 hours and last for 6 hours or so. Maybe this is something for you to look at. And it isn't always the obvious foods. Parmesan cheese is one of the worst triggers for me!
I take probiotics like primal defense and take supplements of garlic, calcium and multi-complex vitamins. I've also detoxed and gotten off of caffeine a while ago. I noticed the beginnings of these fatigue feelings about two years ago and they seem to be progressing. My strength is the same however and I'm in much better shape now since I exercise every day. I wonder if perhaps I'm exercising too much and fatiguing my muscles? Could this be a possiblity?
They were just getting to the point where they were starting to be less frequent and less intense. I cut out the caffeine, chocolate and everything else that was recommended by my physician. But just a couple of days ago I started to experience PVC's. Still not quite sure what they are since their different then the palpitations, this is more of a flutter in my chest. I went to the ER just to be on the safe side considering my older brother had a heart attack last year.
I have constant grinding, popping, and cracking sounds in my joints all over my body, especially in my neck, very badly in my shoulders, my back, jaw, elbows, wrists, knees and hips. It does not usually hurt but my muscles and joints hurt and seem to be tense, weak and stiff. Can anxiety cause all of these CONSTANT symptoms? This problem is effecting my life and my relationships and I just want to feel normal and like my old self again.
Now that that that is all good I am weaning off wellbutrin SR at 150 every other day, down from 300, and only in the a.m. NO caffeine as coffee or soda. I daily exercies and get fresh air. AND: I enjoy a cup of Sleepytime Extra tea with 2 Calms Forte for sleep, from the health section at the grocery. AND best topper of all--I count backwards by threes-usually starting at somewhere between 170 and 200. I do not recall gettng any further that the 140s before sleeping.
I had the same thing with the Yaz. I was on Yasmin and switched to Yaz and promptly gained about 5 or more pounds. No problems at all with Yasmin, and I was on it for 5 or more years. I still work out like I did on Yasmin, and I've never eaten a lot, although, the Yaz does make me hungry all the time, and I can't seem to get rid of this bloating. I spot constantly and cramp. I have another friend that is the same way.
I have also had prostate problems and sexual problems. My doctor diagnosed me with prostatis. I've been treated with Cipro twice (for 10 days and 14 days) and it has helped me significantly. I am still experiencing a mild buring urination every once in a while (most noticably after drinking items with caffeine). I have lost a lot of sexual sensation in my penis and my orgasms have lost most of the sensation as well. Sex isn't as quite as enjoyable as it used to be.
I have done an ultra sound of the urinary tract and shows prostate to be of normal size. 2 weeks have passed since on the cipro and so far the stinging when urinating has eased however the discomfort in the urethra is still present and I still wake up at night to pee. I was wondering does this sound like NGU? Should doxycycline be the antibiotic I should be on instead of cipro or does cipro also cure NGU?
She prescribed a variation on the original antibiotic regimen, she prescribed the 5-day z-pack and 14 days of Cipro and told me to stop the doxycycline but continue with the metranidazole. I am currently on day 4 of that treatment. Symptoms have improved some but certainly not gone away. I've been reading up on m. genitalium and I'm almost convinced that I've got some super resistant strain of that.
In prostatitis, the course may be for a minimum of 15-20 days and even longer. Ensure that you keep your fluid intake over 2000 ml per day and avoid irritants, such as caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods. Also avoid sitting for long periods of time or on surfaces that are not well padded. You can also increase intake of citrus fruits an juices to acidify your urine and to flush out the bacteria from your urinary tract.
I was put on macrobid after sex, didnt work, macrobid everyday, didnt work! and then I started taking cipro and that really worked. But now I am 8 wks pregnant and have had what I thought was a UTI for 2 goin on 3 wks now!! I am going crazy!! I have taken every antibiotic known to man that is safe for a pregnant lady and no relief. i know that i was diagnosed w/ cytolytic vaginosis awhile back so I read up on it, but w/ being prgenant I dont know if it is the right diagnosis.
I had been constipated for 3 or 4 days and then I went inside and it hit me burning urine and then the prostate sore and low back pain. Id ended up with a prostrate infection and likely as not the Loritab inflamed the prostrate and irritated it until the right combination of things especially 2 bug bites on the penis added to the dilemma. Now 24 days out and still irritated and back on anti-biotics which can also inflame the Prostrate.
The only thing that has helped me is eating clean organic food and no caffeine or alcohol and yes.. sugar. My acupuncturist has done miracles with other female hormonal issues I didn't even realize I had... like pms, adult acne and years of being on birth control. I too must keep going to the acupuncturist and it is helping slowly. Diet is the key, please research Candida which is the diet that I try my best to stick to. My new mantra is that food is medicine and my diet is crucial right now.
Well known drugs that cause long lasting or permanent neuropathies are antimalarials like LARIAM, antibiotics like CIPRO, LEVAQUIN, AVELOX, and many drugs for treating more unusual illnesses.
I then started to experience intermitant sensations of what I can only describe as light numbness and pins and needles in both my hands and feet, but primarily on my left sided extremeties.I would also occassionaly get these sensations on a small area of my left thigh. These sensations regularly come and go, but last seconds rather than minutes/hours.
i went to a urologist who after testing me for gonorhea and chlamydia said it was not that and diagnosed me with prostatitis. i was on cipro for a month and a half, the z pac, amox, doryx, the works. Nothing helped. fall came and i started noticing more hair then usual was falling out of my head. just running my hands through my hair i would find a bunch on my hand. i started noticing a severe lack of energy which continued into bad headaches that would last days.
fluroquinolones (Cipro, Avelox, Levaquin). It also mentions that caffeine, and therefore chocolate, can interfere with some antibiotics, but then doesn't say which ones. http://health.yahoo.
What are the doctors missing? I have had cipro, macrobid, doxycyline, and now on prevacid.. HELP !!! I am 62 and otherwise healthy...
I called my doctor and described my symptom which is only the feeling like I have to urinate all the time she prescribed me 500mg of cipro for only a few days. I've been on them for a day now and feel no change could this be something other than a bladder infection? Is there something else I need to do I have no other symptoms, help.
One thing when I was on CIPRO, if you are drinking any caffeine CIPRO will cause it to build up in your bloodstream, this happened to me ONCE. When I took Bactrim it just jacked me all up. I think I was having some sort of allergic reation to it. Alot of people have allergies to sulpha drugs.
This pain would intensify which would cause me to wince in pain and then release and then repeat all over again every 5-10 seconds for about a minute. This pain did not radiate anywhere but only within a specific point. Then this same stabbing sensation occurred half way up to the first knuckle of my right middle finger about 30 minutes later. Then immediately following this finger pain I felt pain in my right foot at the joint of my middle toe.
Ughhh dont get me started on Levoquin or Avelox and Cipro. Dreadful Antibiotics and they should be taken off the market.. I only took one Avelox and experienced some alarming side effects.levoquin was a littel easier but after 5 days i could hardly get out of bed because i hurt so much and the nightmares where just alarming.Ok nothing to do with Menopause i know..sorry..I,m also going through Meno and my skin has gotten very dry and kinda saggy... Miserable isnt it.
I found a post that said that medications from the fluoroquinolone antibiotics (such as Cipro, Levaquin, Tequin, Avelox or Floxin) can cause these symptoms...I took Cipro and Levaquinn about 7 years ago, for a few short days each and my doctor switched the medication saying I was allergic. Now I am wondering if all my symptoms that have gone undiagnosed could be a side effect of those medications. Anyone else able to tie the two together? If so, what can you do to make it better?
