Cipro and achilles tendon rupture

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro and achilles tendon rupture

Avatar m tn Was Levaquin knowing as a cause of Achilles tendon rupture before September/2006?
Avatar f tn I took the antibiotic Cipro (which causes tendon pain and ruptures) and now have a bunch of problems with both ankles. I have achilles tendon pain, and I also have pain and swelling on the inside of my ankle and arch of foot. It hurts to move my toes back, and I can't stand on my toes at all (can't even get off the ground). I also have no balance and sway. If I walk one foot in front of the other (like a drunk driving test), I fall.
Avatar n tn At this moment, we are two on this site, we both had complete Achilles tendon rupture, just one day apart. We both had late surgery (5 days after the accident).
Avatar m tn I have had a good amount of tendon pain mostly in left achilles and in tendons on top and bottom of arch of foot as well as some heel and knee pain. Again, like I said primarily left side. The achilles pain has subsided some, most of the pain and discomfort now is in the foot. I have taken quinolones a few times in the past (Cipro) with either no pain or some pain that subsided quickly at or shortly after end of course (same with left leg/foot, I think).
Avatar n tn Hello I'm wondering when it's safe to resume exercise after using the antibiotic ciprofloxacin. I do intense cardio (trail-running or versa-climber), and lift about three times per week, alternating days with sunday off. I'm in pretty good physical condition with the exception of a bulging L5-S1 disc and occasional sciatica on my right side.
1168718 tn?1464983535 and pharmacist are debating on drugs now, he wanted to put me back on cipro , but last time is really caused alot of pain going down the stairs in the achilles tendon. I know that could be a permanent side effect of the Cipro, so we want to try something else. This seems to the to Tetracycline, Cephalox , ( or something like that) ... so, after they work it out, I will be on something.
Avatar f tn hi everyone this is my first time here the problem i have is my husband had a complete rupture of his right achilles tendon in march 2009 he decided to heal the conservative way by Sept he was in so much pain and no one would listen to him we looked for a second opinion and April 2010 he had his first op the surgeon removed the outer sheath of the tendon and shortened it by October 2010 it had degenerated and had to have another op where the surgeon took the tendon away and replaced it with his
Avatar m tn so i was diagnosed with a uti and prescribed ciprofloxacin i have to note that i have taken cipro once before and had no adverse effects that i can remember, i have now taken 3 cipro pills out of the 10 prescribed and i noticed some pain in the Achilles tendon area, but on the other hand i work in roofing and i was having to jump over some parapet walls on the roof and such i received my prescription for cipro 5/25/16 it is now 5/26/16 8:40 pm, as i said before the first time i took cipr
Avatar m tn That is an excellent question, since both antibiotics are fluoroquinalones, the same class of drugs. It is not a good idea to take a "lot of these drugs". Tendon rupture and horrible aches and pains for months can result. People have different genetic tolerances. I can tolerate Cipro, for example, however Levofloxacin caused me terrible problems for almost eight months. Getting back to your question the answer is "probably", but not absolutely positively. .
Avatar n tn Cipro can cause tendon problems - some have torn or broken the achilles tendon by stepping down too hard while taking Cipro. You will usually feel that the tendon is hard as a rock - if you feel that, wait to exercise, until you have stopped taking the antibiotic. You may have to switch to a different antibiotic - see your doctor.

Avatar n tn Furthermore, Achilles tendonitis can lead to small tears within the tendon, and make it susceptible to rupture. The main complaint associated with Achilles tendonitis is pain over the back of the heel .Patients with Achilles tendonitis usually experience the most significant pain after periods of inactivity. Therefore patients tend to experience pain after first walking in the morning and when getting up after sitting for long periods of time.
4451049 tn?1387153437 Both levaquin and Cipro gave me 'tendonitis' ALL over the body. Not just the Achilles tendon! Not a rupture, which is what a lot of the articles are about---- 'just' pain. For years. Still bad. :( Not what everyone gets---- so until you try them you won't know. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn What are some side effects of Cipro. I was on cipro for a month and it was terrible. My face felt flushed, burning sensation on my back. When I was almost done with it, I started to get this wierd ache feeling in my butt that still exist today. Anybody expirenced this whil and after cipro antibiotics?
432312 tn?1265644974 I have had increasing Achilles tendon pain first on the right and then on the left for upwards of a year now. The tendon is sore and aches and it is swollen on the sides - and is warm. All signs of a tendonitis. BTW GOOD to see you! It is most likely related to the MS. I don't think it is "directly" a part of the MS, but it certainly is a result of it. I see two ways in which my A tendons are stressed. The first is that my gait is shot.
1172359 tn?1310667693 I was told due to my MS that I am not feeling half the pain that I should. At first I thought it was a blessing, but is it really? If I can tear my achilles heel and barely feel it, well that is just scary! I have seen a few postings on here about the achilles heel. I guess my question is, has anybody else had issues like this? It just really scares me that my left side is so numb that I can have such an injury and barely feel it.
1532707 tn?1312155924 The balls of my feet started to hurt when I was on IVSM. However, with mine, when I walked it started to feel like my achilles tendon was going to rip off. It was really tight and pulling. I mentioned it to the nurse at the infusion place at the hospital when I went in the next day for my next infusion. She called my neuro and he said they had to stop the IVSM immediately. One of the side effects is achilles tendon rupture, and they didn't want that to happen.

Avatar m tn A proper diagnosis is essential. If the rupture is a complete Achilles tendon rupture then immediate surgery is usually indicated. Take care!
Avatar m tn Cipro is one of the fluoroquinolone antibiotics, and while they have their uses, they are associated with tendon inflammation and rupture in a certain percentage of patients. I am one of those. Although I did not experience a rupture, both biceps tendons and the supraspinatus were so inflamed for a year--even with physical therapy and rest--that my activities were pretty limited. Here's more info: http://www.medscape.
Avatar m tn Suffered Achilles Tendon Rupture while sprinting in March 2010 and had surgical repair in April 2010. Tearing point is about 9cm from the heel and the gap was about 8cm. A lot of graft was put in during the surgery. I am currently having redness, swelling and pain in my lower leg and around the incision site. There is drainage from the lower incision site, but recent culture report showed negative. Recent MRI, suggested enlarged and thickened repaired tendon.
Avatar f tn Hello and Welcome to MedHelp! I am the Orthopedic Community Leader for MedHelp. I am fairly new to this site and I am trying to search back to see if I can help anyone with additional information. I noticed you posted on a old post (I hope they respond), so I thought I would try to help a little. I don't know your history, but if is like Kis95 and it is not a Achilles Tendon issue, I'm guessing it might be Gastrocnemius (calf) muscle injury.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I was chasing after my two-year old, and as I went to run, I heard a distinctive ripping sound and felt a very disconcerting sensation in my right calf. I'm unable to put my heel flat on the floor unless my knee is bent, and of course then I can't straighten my leg. My calf hurts to touch on the meaty, inside/back part, although when I'm sitting, it doesn't hurt at all really (twinges a bit).
867582 tn?1311627397 One of the dangers causing disability to people who have taken these antibiotics, such as Cipro, is tendon rupture which can occur up to a year after stopping use of the drug. Usually it is the Achilles tendon that ruptures, but it could be any tendon in your arm, hand, or elsewhere which could cause permanent disability.
Avatar m tn Every day I elevate my leg and massage it with Max Freeze and I rotate my ankle frontwards and backwards to strengthen my Achilles tendon. Its day 3 since I’ve been walking on my left leg and now it’s starting to swell on the opposite side of the injury, but my injury doesn’t hurt. But as I walk my calve muscles hurt. I assume it’s hurting, because I’m restoring my calve muscles. What should I do? Should I continue to walk on my leg or should I put the splint back on?
Avatar f tn I tore my achilles tendon yesterday and have now got a cast i was told this would be on for 6 weeks my toes are pointing towards the floor and was told after the cast was removed they would move the foot up a bit more and put another cast on this and then do the same again a few weeks later, is this what usually happens and will i need and sort of physio afterwards. Many Thanks for any answers.
