Avatar n tn About 4 months ago my husband got a cold. After recovering he continued coughing. It seemed to get better with otc cough syrup at night. He is under severe stress and now coughs alot during the day. Especially when he is talkiing in an excited state. It is a whistling sounding cough but he barely coughs when sleeping. What could be causing this?
Avatar n tn I am constantly coughing. People know when I am around just by hearing my cough. I do it so often, I have become used to it and carry on as if it is normal but I know that it isn't. I am fine for a while and suddenly I have to cough. Sometimes the cough turns into a fit and makes me feel like throwing up. Sometimes my eyes water, throat itches and it simply wears me out. I am convinced that I am suffering from allergies but my doctor wants to be sure that my lungs are ok.
Avatar f tn Cough basically is a mechanism to clear the secretions from the lungs to prevent collection and infection. If its cold air which is inhaled, it can sometimes irritate the throat and cause cough on inspiration. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn And, being sensitive, you will develop chronic lung disease with progressive destruction of your lungs, most likely at an early age. Having trouble so early in life suggests that you may have an inherited condition called, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. This can be diagnosed by a simple blood test. Check on this with your doctor. You must do everything you can to give-up smoking, forever, and start trying now, if you want to preserve the lungs you have at this time.
Avatar n tn I have been to my regular doctor several times and he basically tells me I have chronic broncitis (COPD) now and just have to live with it. It makes no sensel to me. I had no persistent cough before my bout with pnemonia, haven't smoked for almost twenty years, and nine months later my cough is as bad or maybe a little worse. Sometimes productive (medium to dark yellow thick mucus) and sometimes not. How could my cough not be related to my pnemonia?
Avatar f tn I went to a clinic insisting they check my lymph nodes in my neck and lungs. The physician assistant pointed out that my lungs were hyperinflated and that the diaphragm was somewhat flattened, as consistent with emphysema, now I am a wreck. I had an xray 5 yrs ago and was fine. I am never short of breath, go up 3 flights of stairs several times a day, in fact often I run up the stairs and carry laundry up too. I also walk up a rather significant hill twice a day.
Avatar n tn If it is CVA or allergy related- how common is it that it just lingers somewhat controlled without excellent control or is it something else entirely? As I am currently treating all the common causes of chronic cough, at what point would a visit to a pulmonologist be in order?
Avatar n tn I still have a clear productive cough. I think it may be chronic bronchitis. My question is - does chronic bronchitis ever improve or go away or do have this cough to look forward to forever?
Avatar n tn If it's COPD then why arent any breathing treatments, inhalers, antibiotics helping at all? My dad can't do anything without coughing so hard that he almost passes out. He's tried everything Drs have given him and not even a breathing treatment or inhaler even helps him. Drs say they're puzzled. What could it be?
20805123 tn?1515178634 Coughed a few times through out those years but it was from my weaker lungs after the Pneumonia, my lungs are like this because of my Muscular Dystrophy. But right in April of 2017 when I was in 9th Grade I went to the Nurse to get my Nebulizer treatment because I was coughing all day.
Avatar f tn My mother, she's 49 years old, has a chronic cough (she says that it feels like coming not from the lungs, but from the throat), throat clearing, tickling and sometimes breathless over a year, sometimes she wakes up at night coughing and out of breath, an inhaler helps very fast ( uses Foradil Aerolizer 12mcg, which helps for a long time and Ventolin, for a shorter time) and when she wakes up in the morning she has a stuffy/ runny nose, sneezes sometimes.
Avatar n tn Thay have tested her for acid refux, astma, had a cat scan, and xrays of her lungs. Still nothing they keep putting her on alot of meds, and nothing has worked. Neither of them are getting any sleep because she is up all night. Its even affecting her at school. What suggestions can you give me on what or even where to take her. Thanks This discussion is related to chronic dry cough.
Avatar m tn We had a virus with fever and sore throat that moves into a head cold with chronic coughing and sneezing. and when it seems to be setting down it moves in to the lungs flaring back up into bronchitis with coughing that would last for weeks. It will completely drain you and leave you weak and lightheaded. A number in our area that picked up the virus, were weakened to the point of contracting secondary pneumonia.
Avatar f tn In rare occasions, chronic cough may be the result of aspiration of foreign objects into the lungs. Infections such as bronchitis or pneumonia can cause coughing. These infections can be caused by virus, bacteria or fungus. Diagnosis includes pulmonary function studies,CT lungs and allergy tests to rule out other allergies. Treatment includes bronchodilators and corticosteroids inhalers. Pls consult a pediatrician/allergy expert for the confirmatory diagnosis and treatment. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn I have suffered from a chronic cough for over ten years. I have been diagnosed with GERD, frequent Sinus Infections ( In spite of a FESS surgery 1 year ago) I use a nasal inhaler and also take 40 mg Nexium daily. I have terrible post nasal drip. Wake up at night with a choking cough and then vomit copious amounts of phlem or sometimes my evening dinner. Two years ago a EGD and found I have stricture of my esophagus. I am at my wits end. Any suggestions .
Avatar m tn I have been to the doctor several times over coughing, taken bunches of medicine, when the medicine runs out I cough again. I have sinus drainage, allergies (for which I have had two years of shots), my nose isn't clogged and I do not have sinus headaches, occasional sinus pressure, nothing bad. The past several winters I get a "viral infection" and I cough, mostly at night, I get this a couple of times a year, late fall and mid spring.
Avatar f tn I have been coughing up black mucus for about 1 year or so now. I smoke cigarettes and I have had a puncutered lung about 20 years ago. Heart disease, and chronic bronchitis are on my mothers side of the family. and my mother has emphezema. I breath fine and feel fine. If I stop smoking will this clear up?
Avatar n tn My friend has been experiencing LUNG pain, coughing up blood and excessive sweating for three years now. The pain is felt every time he breathes and has increased in severity over this time frame, especially when he is resting or trying to sleep at night. He says he feels the pain in his back, on the left side. His skin still has its natural hue. He says he has NO chest pain and no pain in his arm or other extremities. He says it began after a head injury during a tennis match.
Avatar f tn Ive had a chronic cough for the past year and a half. Its rather annoying and seems to come and go. As per my medical treatment, ive had a x-ray which showed nothing according to a pulmonologist and a breathing test (PST or something similar to diagnose asthma). All came back negative. Ive been on a few antibiotics such as Cipro and Avalox along with less powerful clyndamacin.
Avatar m tn I've had a chronic bronchitis for several years and lately have had mild to severe nausea. Have not vomited but came very close. The bronchitis I can live with, but this recent bout of nausea is making me nervous. I think there is a correlation since my cough brings on fits of gagging. However the nausea I'm speaking of comes in out of the blue with no coughing. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn I figure the excercise is irritating the lungs. I am worried that this bronchitis is chronic and it has being going on for at least six weeks now.
