594330 tn?1219167188 I am worried sick about his lack of comprehension and am looking for answers. Today I had a child development specialist and a speech pathologist observe him and thespeech pathologist said she was more concerned with his lack of command following than use of the language. I don't know if maybe there are things I can try to do or change to help him reach this level of cognitve and communitive development.
Avatar n tn He has been diagnosed with ADHD and has a few other problems like fine motor skills. About a year ago he started repeating his speech. Whatever he says, he repeats to himself under his breath. It's a constant behaviour pattern. It doesn't seem to be a problem but his friends have noticed it and comment on it. Anyone else have a similar experience ? This discussion is related to Whispered Repetitive Speech.
Avatar n tn My 32 Months old son can be so sweet and loving one minute and then if he is told to do something he does not want to do he Cry, yell, and throw things (his toys) We notice that other people don’t understand him when he is talking, so we get him speech evaluated, and he will start his speech sessions next week He was attached to his nanny so much (to the limit that he would think she’s his mum) and she had to leave couple of months ago to visit her family, and since then I notice that he would a
Avatar m tn Our prime concern for the boys is their mental and physical health and educational development. We took the boys to the maternal health nurse for the first time. The eldest was assest to have low functioning congnitive skills as the scores showed he was at least 12months behind.
Avatar f tn His speech is slurred all the time and he constantly drools. When he was a baby and began speaking, his speech was as clear as a toddler’s speech would be. It has been getting worse as the years go by; it’s to the point where he’s mostly unintelligible. He has seen several neurologists and other doctors, to no avail. He was on Topomax for a few years with no results. His short-term memory has been affected so he is no longer on Topomax.
470885 tn?1326329037 To make a long story short..... DS will be 3 at the beginning of October. At his 2 year appointment with our GP, we mentioned that we had noticed that his speech wasn't quite on par with other kids his age (fewer words, not yet stringing 2 words together). He sent us to an audiologist for a hearing test (which checked out fine) and referred us to a local children's centre where they deal with all sorts of behavioral/developmental issues.
Avatar m tn Our 2yr 10 mon old son has not developed any speech. He doesn’t understand any instruction. He doesn’t respond to his name most of the times. He can express very limited needs nonverbally (take someone by hand and show water or cookies). He doesn’t understand pointing at things. He throws violent tantrums and bangs his head without any apparent reason. He spends most of his time running around or climbing when he has a good mood. He doesn’t have any interest in nutritious food.
Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
Avatar m tn Worried about my dd height... Former 26 wk preemie, birth weight 1 lb, 11oz, 18 inches long. Now 13 yrs old, 4'7", 71 lbs. has never been on the growth chart. Below the 5th percentile...very small/picky eater her whole life...breast development has begun (wears 34 A bra, has both pubic and underarm hair and alot of pimples. I think period will be next BUT I am so afraid she is not getting taller. She is very sensitive about her height at school.
Avatar n tn It is good that you have been accessing services for your son and that you recognized early that he had delayed speech. A diagnosis of autism involves deficits in social interactions (no eye contact), delayed language and rigidity in routines or perseverative behaviors that are hard to interrupt.
Avatar f tn Hi. How old is your grandaughter?? It is amazing how resilient little ones can be! My husband and I say that all the time. Some of the falls, bumps and boo boo's my kids endure would send me crying or to the hospital! Our boys just jump right back up most of the time. So, it is hard to say if what you describe is abnormal or not. Some kids do have an underresponsive nervous system and they don't feel pain like the rest of us and that can end up being dangerous down the road.
20896457 tn?1592763839 With that said, my son has something called sensory processing disorder. Tripping frequently is a sign as is garbled speech. When you do a speech eval, they check the three areas of speech which are articulation (the ability to understand the words she is saying), expressive language (ability to formulate what to say to others) and receptive language (ability to understand and process what is said to her).
Avatar f tn My 6-year-old granddaughter has tremor ataxia, hyper reflexia and global developmental delay.
Avatar f tn My little boy is 2 1-2 yrs old. He does not speak , only says dada, no, dat and other little babbles. I'm so worried and concerned for his development . He gets upset very easily and will hit or bite at anyone if something doesn't go his way. He points to some things he wants ; will use some gestures to let you know what he wants. For the most part he is happy , hugs and loves to giggle , he gives kisses to mommy and daddy.
Avatar m tn Hello. Well, the first thing I would do is talk with your pediatrician about a birth to 3 program that all states have. It goes under different names------ ours is "help me grow". Through government grants, they help assess the needs of a child identified as having any developmental delays. They will coordinate what types of things need to be done and help with paperwork and expenses. Speech (which for little ones isn't so much about talking as it is feeding.
Avatar n tn Fisrt my son didn't talk till he was four and still has a very hard time comunicating with you. He does not interact with other children unless he has known you for a LONG time. He HATES change and gets very frustrated when you change his schedual. He use to hit, bit, and bang his head on the floor when he got frustrated but now he flaps his arms and screams or bites his lip.
Avatar m tn My daughter just turned 3 a few weeks ago. While she typically talks in 4-5 word sentences and displays an average vocabulary, I think she is struggling with some comprehension issues. If asked a question she doesn't know the answer to, she will automatically answer yes as opposed to thinking about it or responding with ''I don't know.'' I think she knows she's supposed to have an answer, but doesn't know what to do when she doesn't get what you are saying.
Avatar f tn He points at the things that he wants, or will bring them to me (if he wants to go outside, he might bring me his shoes). Up until this point, he has has a normal development. He was a month late on crawling, but he started walking when he was exactly 12 months old. I truely believe that his issue revolves around language development, but I don't know enough to be certain.
Avatar n tn If you are concerned about this, discuss it with your pediatrician and perhaps they will refer you to a speech pathologist for a speech evaluation. The best thing that seemed to work with my two boys is that I would speak slowly and have them look at my mouth on words they had difficulty with. I'd also do games like put on music and make crazy, silly faces and freeze them (turning music on and off). That works mouth and face muscles.
Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
