Avatar n tn m not sure where your from so its probably called something different but there should be programs where you are that helps with children speech development they came to your house they will observe your child and then set up appointments depending on how much and what kind of help she needs they come to your home for the appointments so the child is comfortable there is usually no charge depending on your insurance and they will be able to tell you if she needs testing for autism and where you
Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
Avatar m tn Your son is showing some delay in the area of speech/language, and this may be in the context of generally sound development overall. If the pace of his speech/language does not pick up some momentum over the next several months it would be prudent to arrange an evaluation with a Speech/Language pathologist and/or arrange an Earli Intervention evaluation.
Avatar n tn they are all fluent in each one of them and have never, to the best of my knowledge, suffered any type of language development or speech issues. you should inform the teacher of her ability to speak a foreign tongue and just allow the daycare to use one language all day and maybe you can continue to use the mother tongue at home. give her extra time to begin to speak out clearly in these two languages. she has more to learn than other children.
Avatar m tn Hello. I have a 3 year old son with autism and although every child with autism is different, comparing your son to my son, I see a few similarities but nothing so severe as the behaviors my son had at that age. It could be that he has some developmental delays, or maybe some sensory processing delays. I would definitely speak to the pediatrician about all the things you have noticed.
Avatar f tn The educators from the Child Development Center my son goes to (he's 3 years old), suggested I sign him up for Speech Therapy at the local elementary school because his speech is delayed. Apparently, by law, the school has to enroll him for this problem. I don't know if this law is state wide or national, but you may look into a Speech Therapy program at your local Elementary school as well.
594330 tn?1219167188 I am worried sick about his lack of comprehension and am looking for answers. Today I had a child development specialist and a speech pathologist observe him and thespeech pathologist said she was more concerned with his lack of command following than use of the language. I don't know if maybe there are things I can try to do or change to help him reach this level of cognitve and communitive development.
Avatar n tn My son is 26 months old and has been diagonised with speech development delay but now I am wondering if there is more to be concerned about. He was also slow/delayed at reaching gross motor milestones of sitting, crawling and walking. He flaps his armes when excited or agitated, and is compulsivily clean. He can be extremely affectionate one minute but then start hitting, biting and/or pulling hair.
Avatar f tn My granddaughter is 3 yrs., 9 mos. She is still not potty trained despite consistency in putting her on the potty. She screams and covers her ears when you mention it's time to go on the potty. She also does not seem to know how to interact with other children. She will say hi to them, but if asked a question, doesn't answer or moves to something else. Her speech is fine, she just doesn't use it much If I ask her what she did at the playground, I get no response.
293420 tn?1243142938 I requested this a few months ago and got a reply saying that it would be considered...but, still nothing. There are at least 5-8 posts per week about Speech/Language delays in the child development forum. I'm an SLP and my son has Apraxia (motor speech disorder). Not only do I have lots of advice to offer to parents of children with speech delays, but it would be nice to network with other moms going through the same experiences. Hurry!
Avatar n tn , delayed speech) and I found a website (below) at the National Institutes of Health that has a section on typical speech and language development. It includes checklists that help you determine if your child is “on track” with communication development. http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/voice/speechandlanguage.html#mychild Some of the other other behaviors that would be indicative of the early signs of an ASD that you mentioned include the “ignoring” and “sensory issues.
Avatar n tn Now, in spite of that, this child may display some delay in his language development. An evaluation by a Speech/Language professional is in order.
Avatar f tn You should find a developmental pediatrician who specializes in ASD for an assessment (a multidisciplanary evaluation including a pediatrician, a child neurologist, a child psychologist, and a speech therapist is ideal). Depending on where you live, you can look into your local school district for assessment and other services through early childhood programs.
Avatar n tn I don't believe speech therapy is necessary for him, he may just be a quieter type of child who takes in alot from his environment, which isn't such a bad thing. For now, just do as you would normally and keep communicating with him. Encourage him to communicate with others aswell, which i'm sure you already do. I myself was a real quiet kid and wouldn't speak to anyone and was extremely shy, i just wanted to do my own thing and was happy to do so.
Avatar n tn Dear Doctor, I am a student from a suburban area of India and my group is tying to spread awareness among the people out here with regards to different development problem associated wiith kids of around age group 2 to 7. Many mental problems related to a child like autism, down syndrome, speech problem etc is our concerened area.
Avatar f tn If your son is repeatedly asking questions and needs you to repeat in order to understand, then he could be having some hearing loss—maybe brought about by the beads stuck in his ears. Hearing loss can delay speech development. Hence this needs to be first identified and then corrected. Please consult an ENT doctor and an audiologist. Take care!
168006 tn?1241012961 Yes, the speech regression is a big concern to me. Have you heard of anyone having that turn out to be nothing?
Avatar m tn Basically there is no development pediatrician in my country. Different doctors are giving different theories about his condition. There are some schools for autistic children run by parents who have such children themselves. The medical evaluation can go as far as labeling the child as autistic. A child doesn't even start getting help before he or she turns 3. We are not that affluent that we can take our child abroad for evaluation.
Avatar n tn means that the child is not showing age appropriate skills in that particular area. That being the case any autistic child could be called delayed with their speech, their social interaction, etc. So could children with other diagnosis such as ADHD. But to get a diagnosis of any disorder the child has to show enough of the charteristics in each category. If they don't they might get no diagnosis, or it might mention traits of ....., or it might be PDD NOS ie.
Avatar n tn My 32 Months old son can be so sweet and loving one minute and then if he is told to do something he does not want to do he Cry, yell, and throw things (his toys) We notice that other people don’t understand him when he is talking, so we get him speech evaluated, and he will start his speech sessions next week He was attached to his nanny so much (to the limit that he would think she’s his mum) and she had to leave couple of months ago to visit her family, and since then I notice that he would a
Avatar f tn my 3 1/2 yr old son has no speech and next 2 no understanding, he just about understands his own name!! he constantly rocks and headbangs, and mayby has 4hrs broken sleep at night, always headbanging!!!!!!! he is obsessed with hair and writing (books or subtitles on tv) or flicking pages of books across his face. i know he is very sensory, but could this be autism????
Avatar n tn while it's possible that it's a normal part of her development, I would be concerned. She most likely needs speech/language therapy. I am surprised that her pediatrician isn't concerned. in the mean time, if she is responding well to flash cards, i would create activities that foster language development. help her learn to put sentences together by modeling and have her repeat you (as you are). Since she does well with flashcards, you may want to look at http://www.speakingofspeech.
Avatar f tn , a big part of the question they had was about delayed speech) and I found a website (below) at the National Institutes of Health that has a section on typical speech and language development. It includes checklists that help you determine if your child is “on track” with communication development as well as definitions and some explanations of potential speech and language developmental problems and what to do about them.
Avatar m tn My 5 year old grandson started kindergarten in 2011. He has had behavioral problems since the beginning. He will punch a child sitting next to him in a circle setting. This can be any child, not any one child in particular. He doesn't listen to teacher. He plays and runs around when he is supposed to be quiet. Yesterday he was expelled for the day because he was kicking his teacher when she was trying to get him to pay attention.
