Common Questions and Answers about Chest tightness sternum

chest

Avatar n tn I have trouble with tightness in my chest. Do your ribs and sternum hurt? Since I had sarcoidosis in the lungs, I have gotten what my doctor refers to as a severe case of costocondritis. Think that's spelled correctly. Anyway, I feel like something is squeezing my chest and it is painful just to touch the ribs and sternum. Anyway, I can certainly appreciate your discomfort because I have been dealing with it a long time.
1014527 tn?1251057498 Things seems to have slightly improved for a small amount of time but I could never shake off this tightness of chest/tightness on full breathing. One concern was I had thick, yellow-dark yellow mucus for a few days straight at work(I work as a stocker overnight/around dust/etc.) and my temperature was fine. As well as this discomfort in my chest which is located about dead square middle of my breast cavity, sometimes in the ribcage/sternum with sensitivity touching below the sternum.
7251241 tn?1389564212 For nearly two years now I have been suffering with constant pins and needles in my left arm, chest tightness, neck tightness, jaw pain and chest numbness. I have had 2 ecg's, 3 rays and bloods and nothing has shown. I have not had any heart attacks or no family history of this. I am 21, healthy and no previous experience of this. Can anyone give advice? I must add that I have a regular inflamed sternum.
245504 tn?1224099316 I have had anxiety/panic attacks for at least 12 years. I am in one of my anxious kicks (hypochondriac) lately and am experiencing a "new" symptom of intermittent chest tightness on the upper left side of my chest (almost near shoulder). It just comes and goes and it is just a tight sensation. I have read this could be anxiety and am wondering if anyone else experiences this. FYI I recently had a echo done that was all good and holter monitor showing Sinus Rhythm/Sinus Tach.
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing symptoms of extreme chest tightness with soreness through the center of my chest (sternum). I have also felt like it is harder to get full breaths of air because my chest is tight and my throat feels tight. I have been to a pulmonary dr. who said I don't have asthma. It has also felt like it is harder to feel my heartbeat through my chest. Like my heartbeat is weaker.
Avatar f tn I’ve paid more attention to the chest tightness and it’s starting in my abdomen right below my sternum and the pressure pushes on my diaphragm. When I walk my legs feel heavy and uncoordinated and recently my stomach has started bloating so i look 5 months pregnant again. I’m not sure if the pregnancy is related but it’s certainly not post-partum depression or anxiety like my doctors started suggesting. These symptom are real and getting worse by the day.
Avatar f tn I get burning in my throat and chest, reflux, nausea, sternum pain, feeling like there is something in my throat, and even back pain when it gets bad. Do those of you who have these issues also get chest tightness and the feeling of something sitting on your upper chest?I'd say it's right at the top of my chest and sometimes it feels like something is either sitting there or pulling. I've heard that these can be gastro symptoms, but I wanted to see if anyone here experienced it?
Avatar m tn For the past few months, I have had a chronic chest tightness upon waking up in the morning. I sometimes have excessive burping. I sleep very well and no problems while laying down. It seems that I can 'push' a spot just to the left of my sternum that is more sensitive. I can 'crack' my sternum (loud, large cracking sound) by just pushing on it. A few months ago, I had esophagal spasms - which seems to have been relieved naturally (or travelled or something)....
Avatar n tn For over two months, about 20 minutes after eating just about anything, I have been having chest tightness above my sternum and upper back/neck pain/burning between my shoulders and down my spine to a point on my spine directly behind my upper sternum where I feel the chest tightness. Have had an upper endoscopy which found a small hiatial hernia and minor esophagus erosion on/near my LES, but nothing that should be causing this pain.
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing a tightness (some pain and muscles soreness) at the top of my chest. It feels like when I breath my sternum and my chest muscles are all pushing into the center of my chest also when I take a deep breath there are some cracking sounds in my chest (not all the time but if I haven't taken a deep breath in a while i feel and hear these little cracks in my chest.).
Avatar n tn After the most recent bout of chest pain and pain under the sternum with a negative d-dimer and normal chest X-ray I was put on the prednisone due to asthma and what they thought was pleurisy and started on 40mcg Qvar and albuterol as needed .
Avatar f tn Recently, I’ve also been experiencing chest tightness and muscle ache in my upper body(might be due to vigorous exercise during my Physical Education class). The shortness of breath is most apparent when I’m lying down flat or leaning while sitting. Should I be concerned? It’s 12.13 AM right now so I’m looking for a sign before I alert them.
Avatar m tn I have a strange tightness in my chest right below my sternum. I would describe it as the feeling you get when you swallow a chip that might have been a little too large. Details below.... I've been suffering through what I would call chronic heartburn for years now. My Dr prescribed prevacid and that has successfully treated the symptoms. Ive been taking about 1 pill a day and symptoms return promptly if I forget to take a dose.
Avatar f tn I am continuing to have tightness over the sternum with any exertion. I am less short of breath than before the procedure but notice that it is returning when I go up the stairs, do laudry etc. My LAD is bypassed already. I am a 46 year old female and have an extensive family history of CAD and early death from cardiac arrest. My doctor states that everything looked great during and after the heart cath and stent placement. So, I am very perplexed. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn t even sit without getting the shortness of breath. I also have tightness from below the sternum to the belly button. Laparoscopy was done with one incision done below the sternum and one in the belly button. I have no previous health issues and don't suffer any anxiety. Healthy as a horse until now. I have an appointment to see a respirologist on March 3 to do a battery tests and then see the pulmonologist on March 4.
Avatar f tn your persisting symptoms of breathlessness and chest tightness could be due to asthma. Your symptoms may not be due to the low vitamin D levels. You will need to take your inhalers regularly. And consult your doctor for your persisting symptoms, he may do lung function tests and based on the results he may change/add medications. Take Care.
715004 tn?1309077280 m trying to figure out whether the chest pains I get are angina or from something else. I get chest tightness when I get stressed. Feels like someone is pushing as hard as they can against my sternum. It lasts a few minutes, goes away and may come back several times in an hour, or not at all.
Avatar f tn Sunday- I was fine Monday- felt chest tightness some wheezing took inhaler Tuesday-Started feeling chest tightness but no wheezing by sternum and every time I would cough up from chest clear to white thin mucous I felt my chest get colder. It is Friday and still has cold sensation in chest near sternum. No fever, no wheezing, but is have noticed if I speak too long I need to kind of catch my breath a little also suffer from acid reflux so I am thinking it may be that as well.
Avatar m tn Reflux is a common condition, if the pain is coming more from the middle, right behind the sternum. But a word of caution-- pain and/or pressure in the chest cannot be ruled out for cardiac causes based on exactly where it is felt; the heart causes 'referred pain' to the jaw, shoulder, and arm, and can mimic pain in the gallbladder as well. Although the positional nature of your pain argues against a cardiac cause.
Avatar m tn I have pitted edema in my left leg that nearly goes away some days, and is really bad on others, I have a tightness in my chest dead center on the sternum, seems to go away sometimes, but is there most of the time. I just noticed purple areas showing up on my left foot by my heel as well. I feel like I always have to take a deep breath, and I am constantly clearing my throat.
Avatar n tn You should have an angiogram (cath or ct scan) to rule out any occlusions that obstruct the blood flow to heart cells' usually chest pain (angina) related to the heart occurs with exertion and there is relief with rest. Chest pain can be due inflammation of the sac surrounding your heart (pericarditis), a short-lived condition often related to a viral infection. Coronary spasm, also known as Prinzmetal's angina, can cause varying degrees of chest discomfort.
Avatar f tn So I figured this constant weight (holding him on my right hip) caused it since it was basically on my right side. The I started having chest pains and tightness/shortness of breath with numb face, jaw and tingling/burning sensation in my forehead/scalp. The pains were sporadic, shooting all over the place from my sternum, diaphram and then upper chest/breast area. Stood up, got lightheaded and dizzy and flushed...went to the ER. EKG, lab work and chest xray were all normal.
Avatar n tn and i also feel a tightness on my neck but i have no pain on my sternum it just that my left side looks higher than my right
1752201 tn?1312116004 Yeah It might sound funny, but I assure you It's not. I had this problem about a month ago and It just came back. I'm 28 mind you so this is un-comforting. From the moment I wake up I'm burping (mild burps mind you) and the Gas keeps getting stuck in my chest cavity and It's hard to get it out. Thus putting pressure inside my chest, most notable the sternum. I doesn't hurt too much, just extremely uncomfortable. If I eat something for ex.
Avatar n tn I started having a tight chest at the same time (more physically, not like an asthmatic tightness), and after a week my sternum clicked. Since then almost every morning my sternum has clicked, and maybe once more later on in the day. After this started the intercostal pains stopped for longer than usual, but they are back again, and they always hurt more these days than when I was 10... Anyone got any clue what it could be?!
