Common Questions and Answers about Chest tightness caffeine

chest

I have been having shortness of breath, chest pain(less often), and chest tightness in the center of the chest. This has started about 7 months ago.
Clammy hands, shortness of breath, tightness in my chest, dizzy, dilated pupils, slight confusion... It took me a while to make the connection to the vitamin...I am cuban/american and have been raised drinking Cuban diesel fuel a.k.a Cuban coffee, and used to drink an entire cup of it. A colada.. This is bizarre. I took some clonazepam and it's kicking in, allowing me to type. I felt really bad for a while there. Scary.
I am also a regular coffee drinker and here lately I'm starting to think that the caffeine is counter acting the effects of the Xanax. I get constant headaches thru out the day and when lunch approaches I take another tablet otherwise the anxiety will come back. My anxiety effects the upper left side of my chest (tightness, tension, feeling it in my nerves running up the back of my neck). As a matter of fact when I stretch it feels SO GOOD and I could just stay in that position.

But it certainly feels like my heart is going to explode out of my chest if I accidentally have caffeine. I've been contacted by people who have seen this forum but haven't spoken up. Not sure why, but I can dig up those messages, if you like. It's basically more of the same strange symptoms. And Fulci, I agree we should chat more. It's nice to have others out there with my issues. I don't feel like such an oddity anymore. I don't have MSN, but I do have AIM.
Hx of anxiety/palpitations,sinus tachy up to 130-140,recorded on event monitors and in office ekg. Last year while on trip chest felt tight, around whole chest. No chest pain associated with these episodes. Started to panic, hr up to 130s. Upon seeing Dr. had echo/stress, ekg, chest x-ray, blood etc, repeated. EF% normal, no ischemia, all sizes wnl. All good, no changes. Possible allery or anxiety related was the thought. No asthma. Sinuses are swollen/congested.
When you say tightness of your L chest that sort of leaves us open to interpetation. The heart sits dead center of your chest, between the nipple lines and very slightly to the left and would be in most cases the size of your left fist. Is that the area you are speaking of or further over and higher or lower? If you are concerned about having a heart attack as i always say there is nothing on this earth that looks like a male having a heart attack.
It's only when I'm talking and the feeling ranges from a stinging pain, burning, tightness and it radiates throughout the tongue at times. A month into this, I was talking and almost felt like I pulled a muscle on the right side of my throat. At this point, I can talk and no one has commented that anything sounds different, however the tongue tightness/stinging/burning and tight throat occurs all the time when I talk and is sometimes a struggle to keep talking.
2 weeks ago I had another episode and I cut out all caffeine and alcohol, but now it seems that this chest tightness will not go away. It comes suddenly and lasts for less than a minute, sometimes so suddenly that it causes me to gasp for breath. It is a tightness that can turn into a more crushing tightness, but it doesn't really radiate into my jaw or into my left arm (though there have been a couple of times I wasn't sure). It's always left of center on the upper part of my chest.
For about the last month or so I have had pressure pains in the middle of my chest as well as tightness in my upper throat and jaw. Chest pain has gotten worse plus sharper to the point of being almost constant. Loss of appetite last few months as well as loss of endurance increased. Pain in my lower right abdomen in the past year. I was sure this was cardiac but a trip to emerg. as well seen by a cardiologist + tests ruled this out.
Have you had a chest x-ray? I ask only because this could be related to your lungs, not your heart. If you had a small blockage or mucus build up in your lungs, it could manifest itself as a vibration upon breathing inward. This would not necessarily happen every time you breathe. Especially if it is related to a mucosal build-up, the vibration would only occur when the mucus was dislodged and therefore "vibrating" with the intake of breath.
I have dyspnea daily (constantly knowing myself of not able to get enough air in), occ tightness of chest and stabbing pain on Right sided chest pain from scapular to front. I have RUQ pain too (around and under costal carilage) things continue with longer duration and intensity. my stomach get bloated after a few months with an upper chest discomfort(under sternal notch), a blockage/congested feeling which makes me cough, streaks of blood seen.
So im in desperate need of some answers and seeing as i've spent the passed 8months in and out of doctors surgerys and havent been given any clear answers i hope someone here is able to shed some light on my issues...So i've been experiencing chest pain. It happens most days quite a few times. Most times it only last 1-3 seconds but in some instences its lasted half hour to a hour. Its a sharp/stabbing like pain at times like a ache...the weird thing is i cant prevent it from happening.
Anyway, I was having the chest pain and tightness and spasms and went to the ER. Had EKG and blood tests done and found my heart was okay. BP was a little high 140/85 but been under 128/65 for the last 6 months with diet and exercise. These symptoms were really worrying me, giving me anxiety that I would have a heart attack etc. Hopefully, this is what everyone else if having in lieu of heart problems.
I don't feel tightening in the throat but in the chest if coffee is too strong. I know that coffee is terrible to have when you're an anxious person- you're probably like I am- I love the taste and even though I know what it does to me, I'll still have it sometimes. If you're looking for something warm to drink, try decaffienated tea. You'll have to look carefully, but it is out there.
Hello, This feeling of chest tightness can be due to acid reflux. Try raising the head of your bed about four inches with blocks. It also might help to avoid eating or drinking for two hours before you lie down. To help control the stomach acid, one should not drink alcohol or drinks with caffeine in them, or eat chocolate or spicy or greasy foods . Take some OTC antacid like Mylanta. You can also take zantac(ranitidine)or prilosec(omeprazole). These will help.
It seems that passing gas/belching relieves the symptoms. The lightheaded feeling usually is paired up with a tightness in my chest, making it seem like I'm having a hard time breathing. I've also been sneezing more than usual. I have been staying relaxed since this started and haven't committed myself to anything that would cause alot of anxiety. I recently had tests done at my doctor's, my vitals and blood all came back very good.

Hello to everyone in this forum, I am a 25 year old male, 5'10, 206 lbs About five months ago I started getting chest pain about two inches from the center, below and above my breast. it was like pressure that would last a few seconds and never in the three areas at the same time. I went to the doctor and i had an EKG done, the doctor came back and said the EKG was good, he also said my BP was a little high 140/90 and he started me on some Benicar for that.
Hi all. I had an ablation 4 weeks ago and since that time I have been experiencing chest tightness, pressure, and sharp pains in the heart. I am seeing my doctor on a weekly basis to determine the cause and undergo treatment. Following a work up of tests (echo, nuclear stress, ekg, etc.) the doctor has determined that everything in the heart is normal and that this "discomfort may be something that I just have to ride out.
From my experience, both of these are normal symptoms of anxiety...I get chest tightness/discomfort, intense feeling heart beats, and stomach problems...and from what I gather, most people suffering from anxiety issues have them. Like any issue you think might be serious, you can always seek medical help, if it gets worse or if you are truly concerned. But just remember, if you think that your anxiety might be causing it, it probably is...
The panic attacks went away last month but then my mostly infrequent chest pains started changing to weird mild pain feelings in my breast, tightness in my ribcage and I sometimes get weird pains in the center of my chest, tightness in my chest, pain that comes and goes in my right breast near my sternum, and on my left side that come and go, sometimes my shoulders feel heavy but I am not sure if that is because I am constantly writing or typing or if it has something to do with my heart.
He also put me on Zocor and a daily aspirin. A week after this visit, I started experiencing chest pain and I'm not if I should visit a doctor or not. Initially, I would describe the pain as a 1-2 second jolt-like stabbing pain to the left side of my chest. I would experience this for 1-2 seconds, every 20 minutes or so. After a full day, the jolting pain on my left side went away, but now I feel a similar 1-2 second jolt, only this time it's on my right side, on my throat, just under my jaw.
For a few years now, I've been getting a red blotchy chest/neck rash in circumstances where I - am drinking alcohol, anxious, nervous, excited, upset - really feeling just about any emotion. It's gotten to the point where I do not expose my chest/neck ever - and cover up whenever I can. I had read once that taking Niacinimide could help - and I've been taking about 1000mg of it for a few months, but am not seeing much improvement.
in the last few days I've quit tea and coffee (Caffeine) and the ache in my chest has decreased Alot, almost gone. I'm also taking vitimin B3 as it helps the nervous system and also use this spray called "bach rescue remedy spray" http://www.*******.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B000YIG5ES which calms me down in less then 30 seconds for when i have the odd moment where my heart starts pounding. really works for me! hope this might help some of u, caffeine seems to be the killer for me.

I was wondering if there was anyone on this forum who has chest pain but no medical heart problems? I have been tested thoroughly by a number of docs and all my tests come back normal. I've been told anxiety and I really, really disagree with this but at this point, I have nowhere else to "go". I tried Lexapro last year and it never helped with the chest pain.
I saw that you posted a few months ago that you had BP readings of ~ 200/100 and pulse rate of ~160 and other symptoms such as dizziness and shortness of breath when walking. The chest tightness is a symptom you need to let your dr know about especially coupled with the other symptoms you have had recently. Please let us know what your doctor says.
I don't recall if I felt like my chest was heavy, but I did not get the feeling it was. I don't think I was particularly lightheaded. From the running around, though, I was breathing heavy. I have not been physically active for a while, and I am admittedly out of shape. But having had this problem as a teen and in my 20's, I wonder if there might be something to it.
