chest

Avatar n tn So the heart doctor thinks that the chest pain is caused from the hital hernia and the acid reflux and thinks that having the chest pain as bad as I have it that surgery is needed for the hernia. I need some advice on this can anyone help me.
Avatar m tn I take a slew of supplements though and think I corrected this problem. However, I still get chest pain and the other aforementioned symptoms. Does anyone think this is a heart issue? Hiatal hernia sounds closest. My pulse is usually normal though and I have exercised vigorously. Sometimes exercise compounds the problem, sometimes it has no effect. Sometimes a large meal will trigger symptoms, sometimes it's anxiety.
Avatar n tn I have, at times, had similar pain. Mine is mainly due to a Hiatal Hernia. You see, when we eat, it causes pressure in our upper abdomen, and this can push up toward the throat and upper back through the diaphram. Actually, hiatal hernias can mimic lots of things, such as heart attacks. Some folks have them so badly, they can not even swallow. Do you experience any acid reflux or heartburn, these are also tell-tale signs of a hiatal hernia.
Avatar n tn At times, a hiatal hernia causes chest pain or upper abdominal pain when the stomach becomes trapped above the diaphragm through the narrow esophageal hiatus. It also makes GERD worse. If you feel you may have a hiatal hernia, ask your doctor about either an EGD or a barium swallow test, both of which will show any structural anomalies. Good luck.

I am awaiting for my doctors appointment. Does anyone else have this with out the heartburn.
Avatar f tn ! Sliding hernia - both stomach and the attached part of the esophagus slip into the chest. This is the most common type. ! Rolling hernia - part of the big curve of the stomach rolls through the opening !
Avatar m tn I get this ach pain right under my left breast that scares me because i dont know if its my heart or a hiatal hernia..The pain is brought on by movements sometimes like if i turn my body to fast, or if i bend over. i also get it alot after meal. Avatar m tn Anyways, the next day, I was having chest tightness/pain in the upper abdomen/lower chest area and had a hard time eating because I would get nauseas. Today, I woke up hungry, ate a little bit and my stomache felt bloated while i was still recieving that chest discomfort. I have a feeling it isn't anxiety but I'm not exactly sure, I will go to the doctor on monday and ask for an ultrasound done because the symptoms seem similar to those of gallstones.
Avatar n tn I continue to have shortness of breath, and tightness in my chest and right below my rib cage where my stomach is. I have been concerned about a Hiatal Hernia, because i get extreme belcing, reflux, and somtimes pain there. Could this still be a possibility even though they havent seen it yet?
Avatar n tn s the last time they checked your ferritin and blood iron levels? Esophageal spasms can feel like chest pain. Is your hiatal hernia large, because I read usually slipping ones are small and don't cause symptoms. If you had a large one, that could cause belching. Also, you might consider whether you've aggravated your chest wall muscles at all lately by some kind of activity. Costochondritis can be quite painful and involves typically a pinpointed area.
Avatar m tn In hiatal hernia a part of the stomach sticks upward into the chest and causes chest pain, heartburn, and swallowing difficulty. Since you have been operated for hiatal hernia it seems to be unlikely.Gastroesophageal reflux disease is another possibility. The common causes of chest pain are muscle strain, sprain, pleurisy, asthma, costochondritis.A bruised or broken rib, and panic attack all can lead to pain in chest.GERD can cause heartburn and chest discomfort.
Avatar m tn My opinion is that wearing a belt around your chest helps with one of the most common types of hiatal hernia, called sliding hiatal hernia, which has a main feature of the hernia sliding in and out of the lower chest. In such a case(sliding hiatal hernia) the diaphragmatic muscles involved in the opening and closing of the lower esophagical sphincter can become dysfunctional, causing the GERD symptoms.
Avatar f tn Usually there may be some distinqushing differences between hiatal hernia pain and angina pectoris. HH is not likely to occur while sitting or standing, and often only appears when either lying down or leaning foward after a heavy meal. My in-law had both HH and angina and that was his experience. And stable angina occurs when there is a reduction of oxygenated blood to heart cells...usually with physical or mental stress. Before I exercise 3 times a week I take a nitrate (isosorbide...
Avatar m tn I have gained about 25 pounds and my question to the doctor was could the hernia be causing the back pain and chest pain. He to answered no. I am now seeing a gastro doctor who is checking my liver/pancreas and still has not found anything. possibly thinks it is stomach spasms and has put me on meds. it has been 2 weeks and it is not better. I am fixing to check out what SOD it and see if that is a possiblity.
Avatar f tn It's possible you have a pre-existing hiatal hernia and the abdominal exercises 'uncovered' the problem. If someone has a hiatal hernia, any form of exercise that elevates pressures in the abdominal area presses upward on the stomach and that unfortunately allows the acidic contents of the stomach toward the esophagus. Unless the hiatal hernia is very problematic, the treatment for it is usually conservative - a change in lifestye, change in diet and meds to control acid reflux.
Avatar m tn A hiatal hernia can cause or exacerbate a heart disorder. And an increase size of the heart may contrbute to the crowding out effect. The chest cavity has a compact, limited space and an enlargement can have an effect on the other organs. There are congenitalyl deformed chest cavity condition, rib cage, etc. that can cause chf. A hiatal hernia can crowd the chest area giving the lungs less room to work.
Avatar f tn It appears that you may have a hiatal hernia in your diaphragm under your rib case. A hiatal hernia can develop when the esophagus passes through a small opening in the diaphragm that separates the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity. A portion of your stomach can slip into the open cavity and apply pressure on the opening. Acid from your stomach can move into your esophagus causing a burning sensation.
Avatar n tn Hello, Appears like a case of sliding hiatal hernia. Other reasons could be vascular defects in the chest area or due to straining of the heart muscles in the body positions described. In any case, as advised, first consult a cardiologist and rule out any problem with the circulatory system.
Avatar m tn I have had PVC for a couple of years now. However, they are infrequent and only come about during periods of stress. Of late i've had lots of GERD symptoms and after an upper GI my consultant said that I have a very small sliding hiatal hernia but not GERD. So I have PVC's and a hiatal hernia, but I don't know how long i've had the hernia and if the PVC's started because of the hernia.
Avatar n tn Acid Reflux ? do you get it after you eat, during the morning or evening?
