Is a congested chest with productive cough ARS? Also, what is the definition of dry cough?
What it feels like is the chronic post nasal drip I have has caused congestion in my upper chest. However, the weird part is, I really have no cough, and the occasional cough has never brought anything up. In the past, if my chest begins to feel this way, it is followed by the painful cough and coughing stuff up. I would not call what I have sometimes as pain, it feels more like irritation. When I am active, as well as when I drink a lot of water, it seems to be much better.
For about a year now I have had a cough and chest congestion, my doctor has switched my asthma medications several times thinking that might be the reason for my cough and congestion, she's tried many different types of allery medications, I have been to the pulmonologist, had a chest x-ray and nothing was found, but the cough and congestion I still have.

You may or may not have emphysema, especially if you have a history of smoking cigarettes. Smokers get both emphysema and chronic bronchitis, with cough and sputum. The combination of both is called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). But COPD does not give rise to chronic fever. The answer is not more antibiotics, but more attempts to discover the cause of the fever.
I have this tightness in my chest i kno its mucus but i dont have a cough or cold it hurts when i try to take a deep breath ive never had chest congestion before im not coughing up blood or anything like that. ive been using my asthma pump because when i was younger i had trouble with asthma it helps clearing my airways so i can breath easier but it comes back after awhile. Help?
I tried to live with the annoying sinus congestion, eye irritation, cough and chest congestion because I too couldn't find anytime that helped. Within 4 months of allergy shots almost all my symptoms are gone, I can even get cat hair in my eye without having it red and swollen for days. The other things that can help are a very good mattress cover. I got mine from achoo-allergy.
Is a Hacking Cough with sounds of congestion in the upper chest typical of COPD? My mother for the last month would expel white colored globs of mucus periodically after a few minutes of coughing. She has no fever nor loss of appetite. Her geriatrician tried Azithromycin 500mg tabs for 5 days which seemed to help but then the coughing and globs returned. The doctor then doubled her Pulmicort doseage in her Nebulizer for two weeks to see if that helped plus using Robitussin as needed.
This past week, I have been experiencing chest congestion and coughing up greenish phlegm but have no cold symptoms. Am asthmatic but has been under control for many years. Even though still taking Singulair and Advair daily, have been having shortness of breath and am very tired. Am also using Proventil which I rarely use and it's barely making a difference. Even something as simple as turning from side to side in bed is leaving me breathless.
Hello All, Thank you for reading my post. I have had horrible chest congestion, chest tightness, and a cough (both dry and productive, yellow and clear). I don't normally suffer from allergies, and was also tested for asthma (which was negative). I already did a course of antibiotics, z-pack, and have been on decongestants too. Nothing seems to help. This problem has persisted for 14 weeks now, and originally I though it would go away, but it just doesn't.
It started off as a minor sore throat, nothing that really bothered me and a bit of a stuffy nose. Within two days both of those were replaced with chest congestion, tightness, and a wet cough producing green phlegm. Now its been about 5 days of wheezing and this cough i can feel the congestion deep down in my lungs. When i breathe i can feel the phlegm and mucus and i wheeze when i exhale. It is usually worse at night before i go to sleep. Im not quite sure If i should go see my doctor.
Symptoms may include cough, back pain, chest pain, chest congestion, rapid breathing, shortness of breath, fever, chills, sweats, headache, weakness, tiredness, and a general feeling of discomfort and body aches. It is generally best diagnosed by chest x-ray in addition to a thorough physical exam. Treatment is based on the severity of your symptoms and the type of germ causing the infection.
It just seems so weird to me to have sudden heavy congestion in my throat and chest with no stuffy nose or other symptoms. As for the achy body, I think that's probably just from the violent coughing (so bad it makes me gag). I'm taking Mucinex now and tylenol for pain, and I'm feeling a little better. But how can avoid this in the future, and could this be a sign of something more serious?
I am in serious need of assistance concerning severe chest congestion accompanied with excessive coughing that causes me to gag, pass gas and sometimes bowel movement.
No chest pain with the cough. I am wearing a Miami-J collar pretty much all the time and no neck or arm pain like before. I am doing all the normal things for a congested cough and cold. OTC meds, fluids, etc. My concern was the surgical sites, my throat, and the fusion site from all this coughing. I Called the surgeon, and his PA did not seem concerned and said to call my PCP if continues. Could this be a reaction to the inflammation in my airways post surgery?
I use my albuterol inhaler often due to not being able to breathe with the cough and congestion, I constantly feel that my chest is tight. I have also taken 2 more antibiotics hoping it would clear up but it has not. Also, my original doctor wanted to do a chest x-ray but chose not to due to me being newly pregnant and unfortunately I have had to switch doctors in the process.
Now, the next day, the heavy respiratory congestion and cough is back full force. My stomach muscles are killing me from coughing. What is the best and quickest way for me to rid myself of the congestion? I hit my rescue inhaler but it doesn't help. Normally my Asthma is mild. I've thought of purchasing a nebulizer but I know it would just sit there after this ailment passes.
It is a tightening of my chest and severe congestion that makes it hard to breath. I can at times cough up phelgm (spelling?) which helps temporarily but not completely. I have currently been battling this for the last 4 weeks. I feel out of breath and it hurts in the center of my chest when I try to take a deep breath. I have just been through two weeks of antibiotics from my primary care physician, which did not help. He also gave me a shot of cortizone but the problem is still with me.
I played tennis about 2 and half months ago and a few days later I felt heavy congestion in my chest with no mucas or coughing and no pain. At night it was difficult breathing but woke up with fairly clear breathing. I went to the doctor and had blood work and a Chest Xray and everything was normal. Over the past few years I have had refuxe and have taken prevacid. The doctor put me on a PPI thinking it could have been reflux that caused this.
My alergy presents as very loose and fluid chest congestion - if unchecked it get to the point of sounding like pneumonia. I am alergic to Mt Red Cedar and some other alergens - mostly fall and spring, but recently realized dairy products and some fruits cause the same effect. Perscriptions such as clarnex and singular used to keep it at bay and I didn't need to be on it constantly, but recently it is getting worse and I always seem to have a productive cough.
The symptoms of tuberculosis generally involve a sore throat and a dry cough or wet cough with blood in sputum. I would suggest you consult your PCP and get a X-ray of chest and take a proper course of treatment and see if the symptoms disappear. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
I have had severe chest congestion, a sharp pain deep in the center of my chest, it causes shallow breathing because it hurts to breath in and causes a severe cough attack. This has returned 3 times now in the past three months. The first time I came down with this, I went to my primary care dr.
Hello all, for about a month now I have had a cough with chest congestion, sometimes it's productive, sometimes it's not, and I cough up green and yellow sputum. I also have nasal congestion and when I blow my nose it's a lot green mucus. The symptoms actually seem to go away late night and return 2 hours or so after I wake up. I have had no fever and no other symptoms. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
