Chest congestion post nasal drip

Common Questions and Answers about Chest congestion post nasal drip

chest

I started having post nasal drip symptoms about 11 months ago. I have thin mucous that has to be continually coughed up. I have been to the ENT doctor many times and have tried everything including prilosec, clariten, steroid nasal sprays, asthma inhalers etc., chest xray. He said there is nothing else he can do. I have no history of allergies, heartburn etc. but did have tonsils out, septoplasty, uvela surgery etc five years ago for sleep apnea.
Hello, I've had what the doctors call Post Nasal Drip constantly for the past 4 years and I'm trying to get it fixed as I'm wanting to join the military - as aircrew - and need to be in perfect health for my medical. As time is starting to run out I'm wanting to fix this asap.
I have had post-nasal drip/chronic sinusitis/chronic bronchitis for all my very long life. I used to get 2 or three coughs a year that lasted for weeks, sometimes ending in pleurisy. I went to doctors, and eventually had to diagnose my problem myself: my sinuses were dripping down my throat and becoming infected and causing the cough. Eventually I had a CTscan of my sinuses and the official diagnosis: Chronic sinusitis.
What it feels like is the chronic post nasal drip I have has caused congestion in my upper chest. However, the weird part is, I really have no cough, and the occasional cough has never brought anything up. In the past, if my chest begins to feel this way, it is followed by the painful cough and coughing stuff up. I would not call what I have sometimes as pain, it feels more like irritation. When I am active, as well as when I drink a lot of water, it seems to be much better.

i've been feeling the sensations of post nasal drip and constant swallowing but also feel a bit gasy and tight in the chest..has anyone heard of that likfe gerd giving you the sensations of drip casue my mouth seems to fill up with saliva i think it's salvia...
S., so I wanted to touch base on tnhis issue. At 45, I have had chronic post-nasal drip problems since adolescence. In high school I was given drixoral for this and hay fever symptoms in spring/summer. It definitely helped in the summer. Western Poland, like Ohio, has cold, wet winters, during which I am constantly congested, have lots of phlegm in my throat, and come down often with head and chest colds - this year five times.
gagging, nausea, as to everybody on this board the post nasal drip responds to anxiety. the post nasal drip also gets worse in the morning.. i went to the ENT and took sinus Ex-rays which determined that it was not sinusitis.. i take nexiom (40mg) which keeps the acid under control.. reading all the posts here and the only thing i thing i can think of is the anxiety which is a vicious cycle...
It just seems so weird to me to have sudden heavy congestion in my throat and chest with no stuffy nose or other symptoms. As for the achy body, I think that's probably just from the violent coughing (so bad it makes me gag). I'm taking Mucinex now and tylenol for pain, and I'm feeling a little better. But how can avoid this in the future, and could this be a sign of something more serious?
I do not know about gerd causing chest congestion, but do know that congestion can cause gerd. So, if u have had post nasal drip, even if u r unaware that could have some impact on ur gerd. U may want to try a netti pot and do see ur ENT to rule these issues out or treat them if u do indeed have them. Also, check with ur GI dr to see if u may have another issue like a hiatal hernia going on.
I expel and swallow a large amount of nasal congestion daily (measure by cup not ounce). My doctors just smile when I mention a conection between my cronic post nasal drip and my condition. At times I have gone from 112 lbs to 67 lbs. Today I try to keep over 100lbs but it is hard when everthing I eat comes back up or goes right through me in under 15 minutes 85% of the time.
There seems to be a colony of mucous ants living in my chest, actually in my trachea--or so it feels. I also have relentless post nasal drip and a new habit of clearing my throat, sounding like our cat when she hacks hairballs. First I cough, then clear. And I wish I could just hack it up, but it doesn't get that far. It seems to get stuck in the middle of my throat and then I swallow it--gross. But the mucousy chest is so difficult to live with.
constant throat clearing because of mucus, hacking to remove it, it never really goes away, not reflux related, sticky post nasal drip, etc. I have seen many Dr.'s. I was tested for allergies to no avail. I saw a nose/throat specialist, no answers other than a possible cyst in my sinus. I've tried nasal sprays, antibiotics, nasal washes, antacids, reflux meds, diet changes, fiber cleansing, deep tongue scraping(helps somewhat temporarily), herbs, vitamins, threelac, etc.
Incidentally, since the first cold sore, I have had an intermittent swelling of the lymph node on that side of my face, and a metallic tasting post-nasal drip. This ebbs and flows. Most interesting is that my boyfriend has had these symptoms for years, and never connected them to the oral herpes. He still doesn't quite buy that they are connected ... but since they came upon me at exactly the point I got the cold sore infection, I have at least anecdotal evidence they are connected.
Hello, The post nasal drip that you are having is leading to these symptoms. Post-nasal drip (PND) occurs when excessive mucus is produced by the sinuses. The excess mucus accumulates in the throat or back of the nose. It can be caused by rhinitis, sinusitis, or laryngopharyngeal acid reflux. The acid reflux in your case can be responsible for the post nasal drip. Eat small nutritious meals at frequent intervals instead of a heavy single meal.
Four weeks ago, I started having very bad sinus headaches and a lot of post nasal drip. I was told to take sudifed and flonase, which I have been doing. At the same time this was going on I had a few instances of dizziness or an off balance feeling as well as weakness in my thigh muscles. They requested an Brain MRI and blood work which all came back normal. The weakness in the thigh muscles lasted for a few days.
Hello All, Thank you for reading my post. I have had horrible chest congestion, chest tightness, and a cough (both dry and productive, yellow and clear). I don't normally suffer from allergies, and was also tested for asthma (which was negative). I already did a course of antibiotics, z-pack, and have been on decongestants too. Nothing seems to help. This problem has persisted for 14 weeks now, and originally I though it would go away, but it just doesn't.
For about six months now, I've been unable to take a full breath and am experiencing constant postnasal drip. The mucus is clear for the most part, and I have no congestion. It all started with a cold that slowly turned into this... in the first month or so the breathing problems were a bit worse but as it stands right now, I can't take a full breath and have some difficulty breathing, and an occasional dry cough. It seems to get a bit worse at night but I don't notice any change on exertion.
Has a CT scan of your sinuses been done? Do you have any symptoms of post nasal drip or associated cough too? Have you taken antihistmaine or antiallergic medications like loratadine for your symptoms? Have they helped? You should try some steam inhalation, saline nasal drops and see if it helps with your symptoms. If your symptoms still persist, it would be best to consult an ENT specialist for your symptoms. Let us know if you have any other doubts and post us about how you are doing.
About 2 weeks ago the pressure seemed to get worse along with painful swelling in all my glands from the shoulders up, and worsening post nasal drip. Now it hurts to even open my jaw and the antibiotics they gave me I can't take due to complecations with my UC. Any Suggestions???
I began doing 3 nasal washes a day, to help with allergies, a slight pain in my right lung and post nasal drip. After about 3 days of doing this, I became very queasy and eventually I got a sinus infection and what felt like the flu. I have used the technique that was recommended here, but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.
For years I have struggled with the famous Post Nasal Drip and endless coughing, clear mucus vomiting, etc. This time when I took Nasarel it miraculously cleared it all up within 5 days, BUT, it moved it all down to my chest *rolls eyes*. I woke up the next morning with the lower back of my ribs feeling extremely tight and like I was beaten with a baseball bat.
Another symptom I've noticed is that my nose always feels congested all year round, could it be post nasal drip? Would a chest infection cause a low peak flow reading and how long does it take before it starts to improve. My doctor wants me to monitor my peak flow readings for two weeks after I have finished the antibiotics and then go for a spirometry test.
of the mascara goes into my nasal passage because my eyes burn to???? I have been to an ENT, no concern apparently for a CT scan. I have been to an allergist and he seems to think that my nasal area is being compromised by "something"...possibly chemicals??????????? I will post any further info and wish us all luck in finding the never ending solution.
For many people with obstructive sleep apnea, nasal congestion and chronic sinus infections are a common problem. Nasal irrigation with saline is a natural way of clearing nasal and sinus passageways. The Neti-Pot is a yogic variation of saline irrigation that became much more popular after Oprah's recommendation. Many of my patients that have tried this method report good results, with better breathing and less sinus pressure and headaches.
This may prevent the postnasal drip and irritation. To get the most out of a nasal steroid spray use it after doing a nasal wash. A nasal steroid spray does not provide immediate relief of symptoms. It may require several weeks of routine use to become effective. Please read our Nasal Wash MedFact at http://www.nationaljewish.org/medfacts/nasal.html for more information about this technique. Share this information with your doctor to see if you would benefit from this daily treatment.
I'm still in the process of being tested for my symptoms. For the past 3 months now, I feel very tired. My nose and ears and somewhat stuffed up and I have trouble breathing. I feel like like I have to always clear my throat to get enough air in. I take deap breaths in to get more oxygen and I sometimes get dizzy spells and I feel like I have some nasal drainage happening into my throat. I have had tests done on my lungs, heart, broncial area, CT Scan and allergy tests done.
Apparently I've had chronic sinusitis for quite some time now and it's not going away I mean I don't get the green mucus anymore but I'm still clogged up with a post nasal drip and all my lymph nodes are swollen, I got treated with antibiotics but its not going away and I have had a fever above 100 for over a month now with the headaches and chest pains moving to the right side of my chest, I don't have fibro tho or any of that, but if you find or found out any answers as to what it is keep me
