Chest congestion no coughing

Common Questions and Answers about Chest congestion no coughing

chest

Hi, I have seen my doctor, but to no avail. Had a chest x-ray, said the words heaviness in the chest, so went for stress test, etc for the heart. All is great. What it feels like is the chronic post nasal drip I have has caused congestion in my upper chest. However, the weird part is, I really have no cough, and the occasional cough has never brought anything up. In the past, if my chest begins to feel this way, it is followed by the painful cough and coughing stuff up.
I assume that by the term “yellow liquid” you are referring to “thin” or “watery” mucus and not a true liquid as might come from the stomach of a person with acid reflux. If you are coughing up is mucus then there is no need to worry. This is just an instance of your lungs cleansing themselves of cigarette smoke products and perhaps, material produced by inflamed bronchi, inflamed by the smoke. What you are experiencing is not unusual, following smoking cessation.

For about a year now I have had a cough and chest congestion, my doctor has switched my asthma medications several times thinking that might be the reason for my cough and congestion, she's tried many different types of allery medications, I have been to the pulmonologist, had a chest x-ray and nothing was found, but the cough and congestion I still have.
Did you have a chest x ray done or a chest ct scan. It sounds like you may have pleural effusions (fluid in your lungs). Sometimes lasix helps to relieve the fluid. Also, since you underwent radiation, this could be a side effewct of that. My husband was radiated in the chest area, and has since had much congestion to teh point of shortness of breath. His cancer is in remission, but teh radiation has effected his heart a bit, and teh mitral valve is leaking.
Is there any other remedy that can help eliminate or lessen the amount of wheezing and congestion and coughing I have?? I have gotten back on track with my eating habits, so I am taking small baby steps but this coughing is just killing me.
I am in serious need of assistance concerning severe chest congestion accompanied with excessive coughing that causes me to gag, pass gas and sometimes bowel movement.
It just seems so weird to me to have sudden heavy congestion in my throat and chest with no stuffy nose or other symptoms. As for the achy body, I think that's probably just from the violent coughing (so bad it makes me gag). I'm taking Mucinex now and tylenol for pain, and I'm feeling a little better. But how can avoid this in the future, and could this be a sign of something more serious?
I have been getting these visual migraines every day/bright zigzag light in my vision and dull headache which last 30-40 mins. No chest pain with the cough. I am wearing a Miami-J collar pretty much all the time and no neck or arm pain like before. I am doing all the normal things for a congested cough and cold. OTC meds, fluids, etc. My concern was the surgical sites, my throat, and the fusion site from all this coughing.
I played tennis about 2 and half months ago and a few days later I felt heavy congestion in my chest with no mucas or coughing and no pain. At night it was difficult breathing but woke up with fairly clear breathing. I went to the doctor and had blood work and a Chest Xray and everything was normal. Over the past few years I have had refuxe and have taken prevacid. The doctor put me on a PPI thinking it could have been reflux that caused this.
This can cause chest tightness and chest congestion to the point of coughing up phlegm. A nasal wash helps remove mucus and bacteria from the nose and sinuses. This can temporarily reduce the postnasal drip and make it easier to breath. A prescription nasal steroid spray decreases nasal swelling and mucus production. This may prevent the postnasal drip and chest problems. To get the most out of a nasal steroid spray use it after doing a nasal wash.
After being on Copaxone for 3 months I developed difficulty breathing and severe chest congestion and it will not go away even after taking broad spectrum antibiotics. My dr. denies any connection with Copaxone. But it is the only thing that has changed in my life - taking Copaxone injections. Has anyone heard of a link.
I forgot to add that I am also having alot of tests right now including a recent bone marrow aspiration for a wcc that is over 19,000.
May any of this be side effects of lavoquin or his chest congestion, which now im questioning if it is a congestion anymore. How can you decipher chest pain from chest congestion vs.
10 days ago I began to feel sick. 8 days ago I had sore throat, congestion, minor headache, body aches and cough. I spent 4 days in bed with most of same symptoms. The constants were sore throat and congestion. No fever. Chills once for a short period. During this time I was expelling a little phlegm both through throat and nose, mostly in am when awakening and in the shower. I went to work after 4th day. Felt fair during day, nights were usually bad.
This past week, I have been experiencing chest congestion and coughing up greenish phlegm but have no cold symptoms. Am asthmatic but has been under control for many years. Even though still taking Singulair and Advair daily, have been having shortness of breath and am very tired. Am also using Proventil which I rarely use and it's barely making a difference. Even something as simple as turning from side to side in bed is leaving me breathless.
My partner (58 y.o.) has attacks of coughing that last for literally hours-- very deep unproductive coughs. He has no trouble breathing except that it is hard to catch a breath between coughs, though he does have a very small amount of wheezing after a while. He will be perfectly OK, then his head will suddenly fill with fluid, it runs down his throat, and the tickling of his throat by the fluid is what causes the coughing, which goes then nonstop for 2-3 hours.
Is a Hacking Cough with sounds of congestion in the upper chest typical of COPD? My mother for the last month would expel white colored globs of mucus periodically after a few minutes of coughing. She has no fever nor loss of appetite. Her geriatrician tried Azithromycin 500mg tabs for 5 days which seemed to help but then the coughing and globs returned. The doctor then doubled her Pulmicort doseage in her Nebulizer for two weeks to see if that helped plus using Robitussin as needed.
This sounds like an upper respiratory infection that could involve your nose, throat, sinuses and/or your larynx. It could be from a virus, of a type that can also cause flu-like symptoms. If caused by a virus, symptoms may worsen and improve, but should definitely start to resolve at this, the ten day mark. More worrisome is that it could be a 'strep throat' or, as you suggest, also involve your lungs.
There is mucus in her nose always. There is no fever or coughing or aching joints. The ENT specialist gave us nasal Avamys nasal spray and Fess nasal spray to use. No change in her condition after 3 weeks. I started putting Vicks Vapour Rub on her forehead, cheeks, nose and chest nightly about a week ago. Again, no change in her condition. Please we would value your advice. Thank you.
I bought a Vicks Vaporizer and I think it makes my nasal congestion worse lol. I have a cold, too. Ugh...runny nose, nasal congestion, coughing, headache, you name it. So does the warm steam inhaler do the job?
I was diagnosed with panic disorder and anxiety one day when i was waking up in the middle of the night with my heart beating extremely fast, short of breath and shaking.. i went to the hospital and i had a EKG a chest xray and a chest CT (cat scan of the chest) they said my lungs and heart were normal and i have no clots or anything like that.. then i went to my primary care doctor he also diagnosed me with anxiety..
Coughing, phlegm, sneezing, head congestion, now my left ear is losing it, eyes turning read and itching, chest tightness, hoarseness..the symptoms are endless it seems. I was diagnosed with allergies to southern pollen. Well, i moved out of the south and the symptoms have gotten worse. I dont buy the allergy thing. I've never had a history of allergies or getting sick. But this is frustrating me. CAT scans and X rays have shown nothing. And I keep getting Claritin from the doctor.
