Chest congestion in children

Common Questions and Answers about Chest congestion in children

chest

I still have a low grade fever ranging from 99-100.2 degrees pretty consistently. My chest congestion is worse and lungs feel tight. Is this normal for H1N1?
I don't feel well one day, the next day I wake up with heavy chest congestion with a productive cough. I get so sick I'm in bed for three days with fever, chills, no energy, no appetite. My question is, doesn't bronchitis occur after one gets a cold and not just happen out of the blue? Can this be a symptom of something else. I do have exercised induced asthma and take Advair twice a day. I've had testing for my heart, which came back perfectly normal.
For nose rinse your nostrils with warm water not too hot dont burn urself and try breathing in the steam usually opens nostrils. Or put vicks on ur chest n feet. Helps you breathe. And ur back too!
For sinus, run the hot water in the bathroom, make it really steamy and stay in the bathroom for a few minutes. The longer the better and just inhale. You can also take a wash cloth run that under water, throw it in a baggy then in the microwave for about 35 seconds (careful it's hot) let it get a little cool then place it on ur face and breathe in the steam. Put some pressure on ur face with your hands. Vicks vapor run works wonders also (run on chest, neck, and back).
I have been hospitalised twice and I cant even carry washing up my stairs for fainting. My children can't even sit on my lap because that gives me chest pains now and makes me want to faint. My case was so severe he didn't need me to stand up when scanning me as I actually was diagnosed in 2002 but no one told me after my first child. So went on to have a further 3 am now crippled as didn't know it was that.
Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day. Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day. Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
It sounds that he may have a chest infection and may require an antibiotic. You can buy Vick that is suitable for young children and vapour plugs that you plug into a socket that give off menthol vapours. You can also put in a corner of the room a bowl of hot water with some Vick in it so as to allow the steam vapours into the room to help him breathe. If you do have other children, do make sure that they cannot reach the bowl of water.
This was sent to me by a friend... thought i would share!!! All drugs containing PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE are being recalled. STOP TAKING anything containing this ingredient. It has been linked to increased hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in brain ) among women ages 18-49 in the three days after starting use of medication. Problems were not found in men, but the FDA recommended that everyone ( even children ) seek alternative medicine.

when I'm sleeping in I breathe n it makes me start coughing up stuff in the middle of the night I'm 23 years old with two children ones three years old and ones four years old and its verry hard waking up every morning and coughing so hard that it pretty much makes me sick everyday this is been going on for about 2 years now I've been to several doctors in xrays on my chest and theyve listened to my chest and they said it sounds and looks okay but obviously something is causing all this conges
No stress test....In brief, a chest x-ray was done and found enlarged heart (LV hypertrophy). The Dr. then listened more closely to my heart and heard the MVP/MR. With a family history of MVP and sudden cardiac death and personal history of syncope and palpitations, an EKG and echo followed and both indicated MVP/MR.
My blood pressure went up sky high for about 2 weeks. And I felt an irritation in the chest. I had 23 burns and I would say my heart healed within 3 weeks. If all your tests post ablation came out ok I would think your heart needs more time to heal from the burns. Was your ablation successful?
I'm paranoid these days, and this may just be my paranoia coming thru, but my husband was diagnosed with Burkett's lymphoma, which is rare in-and-of-itself, but when it is found,it's usually in children. It's an agressive lymphoma (and like a leukemia) and I have no idea where it starts with children, but maybe you can ask the dr. to rule it out for you.
I have discomfort in the chest but not really pain and am always dizzy, especially in motion like when I am driving.
Gross as it sounds, you'll be relieving the gas congestion in your chest, and the relief will be almost immediate. The embarrassment of being somewhat ill-mannered by necessity shouldn't override removing the gas, and the pain, out of your system. Homeopathic Remedy This remedy has been around for a long time. Add a few drops of peppermint, ginger, or cinnamon extract to a glass of water, and drink it.
When I took in the prescription to be filled, the pharmacist told me he had to order it (it's in in the morning, so that's fine) and that most places didn't stock it because it wasn't common to see it prescribed in children this young. He said most of the time they are old enough for the tablets. This concerned me a little bit, and I am wodering if anyone else has a child this young on singular, and were there any problems?
Stomach flu has been going round many children have been sick with it,if you have been in contact with them thats probably where you caught it, or its a food bug check out what you ate the last day or two .hope you feel okay soon ..
I need to rant. Apparently Neuros are not the only imcompitant Dr.s out there. Last MOnday I took my 4 yr old to the Ped. Our regular Dr was not in that day, so we saw Dr. C. I had just had 3 days of solumedrol and three days of methotrexate. My son had had a verry high temp for 2 days (103.7 at times). I told Dr. C. that "I don't normally bring my children in for viruses, but my Neuro wanted to know if he had H1N1, or anyother influenza A. I have been on immuno-suppresents.
My daughter is 8 year old & is complaining continuous Body pains, leg pain, head ache, chest pain . She has Tonsils & also cold with congestion. The doc advised us to get CBT & ASLO. Except for ALSO, everything was fine. ASLO is 200 & shown positive. She is on Antibiotic medication & still complains pain. Doctor said once the course gets over, she need to get the ASLO done & then if count gets down to 150..it should be fine.
My boyfriend has been suffering the same symptoms as all of you, and just like most of you has had chest xrays, Ct scans of synus which showed alot of congestion. Also had an ENT consult, which drew a blank. He mainly experiences this blood in saliva when he is in the shower when the steam or heat from shower ? loosens the blood. How ever he is a very heavy snorer. This may also be a cause for this as the nasal vessels are very thin, and this can cause these vessels to burst. So ?
It should clear your mucus in a few days. If you have real bad sinus congestion, you might feel dizzy. Maybe that's why you feel light headed. I think the key points with thick mucus problems are excessive secretion of mucus and reduced flow of mucus, therefore you have accumulated thickened mucus in the throat. In order to reduce phlegm, we need to cut back mucus secretion and clear the mucus flow path. If we can acheive both, we will be ok.
I have a similar problem, constant phlegm/post nasal drip and am tired all the time. Just got over my 3rd serious cold this winter, including a sinus infection. I have dust mite allergies, which can cause the drip in winter, and I've also heard that antibiotics can cause the drip for weeks after you stop taking them, which is my case right now. What makes me nuts is the choking feeling.
Following week, her motion was ok, but she developed very bad cold and cough with chest congestion and slight fever. We tried to avoid going to doctor by giving her alternative medicines (homeopathy). But it didn't work out and fever rose to 104-5F. We had to rush to hospital and she was given paracetamol and antibiotics through IV. The X-Ray showed she had pneumonic patch in her lungs. The meds (through IV) continued for 5 days.
Also, I mentioned the small children - they all end up coming to bed with me at some point in the night and they each have an arm of mine under their heads and me in some strange position trying to sleep, I have adjusted over the last few years, but that could be the problem - seeing as how USUALLY the pressure hits at night when they are with me -sometimes not - but I also sleep with high high pillows - so who knows. When I switched for a while to one pillow it did get MUCH better.
I also have two small children who are pretty much too young to explain in words what they are feeling but I can tell they are going through the same thing - my daughter actually just told me last night that sometimes, when she is just about to fall asleep, she gets a "weird" feeling, not scared, sick, sad or anything, just "weird" was all she could describe. I guess thats the best I can describe it now too.
I have in recent years chronic nasal congestion, but almost only when lying down, as in bed time. While I can breath through my mount, and dry mouth in the night says I'm doing that more than I'd like, it is better to breath through the nose. The congestion sometimes causes me to feel like I am suffocating...mental? many be. This is another condition driving my interest in the O2 sat level.
