Common Questions and Answers about Chest congestion in cats

chest

I tried to live with the annoying sinus congestion, eye irritation, cough and chest congestion because I too couldn't find anytime that helped. Within 4 months of allergy shots almost all my symptoms are gone, I can even get cat hair in my eye without having it red and swollen for days. The other things that can help are a very good mattress cover. I got mine from achoo-allergy.
hi i went through a year of constant infections (a few weeks clear between them) - doc thought it was int eh chest because of chest pain but that was caused from constant coughing. The infections were always in my sinuses. Also had excessive mucous when not infected. FINALLY have cracked it - a wheat/gluten/SOY allergy. Have been breathing 100% since knocking them out of my diet. Have to watch out for SOY - it's slipped into jsut about everything.
After I eat, no matter what it is, I have to clear my chest of congestion and blow my nose for about 10 minutes. Why?
Based on this presentation, what is going on in my lungs? Why is morning congestion is cleared with one breath? I would also like to add that I have some phlegm taste in my mouth when I wake up as well.
When I pet her I can feel rumbling in her body like there is congestion. She's been trying to play as normal so I've kept her in the bathrom or my dog's crate. She has not meowed since her surgery but has been doing an adnormally loud purr. Any adivce? I'm worried she may have bortella (sp?) but the vet's office didn't seem too concerned. Should I insist on an exam?
I periodically develop severe congestion in my chest with an accompanying cough. My physician referred my to an allergist who determined that I'm allergic to cats and dust and who diagnosed me with asthma. My physician then referred me to a pulmonary specialist who determined that my pulmonary function is normal and who administered a metacholine challenge the results of which were negative, so I do not have asthma.
Are you having such kind of symptoms? In allergy to wood, there is swelling or stiffness in your hands, perhaps associated with a "heavy feeling" in your arms, severe headaches and visual disturbances, a rapid pulse, dysphagia, and diarrhea. Going by the symptoms that you are having, it seems to be a case of Sjogren’s syndrome. In Sjogren's syndrome, changes occur in the immune system--the body's defense against disease.
and I am waiting by the phone for the results of his blood test.. but researching 'fluid in chest in dogs' online.. has resulted to nothing positive or promising. 1. They can drain the fluid necessary but eventually scars... so they can't do it anymore. 2. They can wrap the heart or something with something... so the chyle fluid doesn't reach the heart... but that's only has a 50% rate and then only 20% success rate. 3. Then the other two choices are not good either..
Her mother and I are divorced and have 50-50 custody. We have no pets in our house. Her mother has 8 cats and 3 dogs, two which are great danes all are house pets. I recently have taken her to get blood allergy test and it came back negitive. She wakes every morning with nasal and chest congestion and get sick twice as much as everyone else, if the allergy test came back negitive can the animals still be causing her problems or should we be looking elsewhere?
I also have a little chest congestion that seems to make me cough in the evening hours. My teeth actually hurt worse than anything right now! I don't even want to eat and I can't have hot drinks because I also have rosacea. I am a mother of two toddlers and attend online classes for my school. I am so busy all the time and can't concentrate as well as I used to. I just took some Ibruprofen, about 800 mgs..does anyone know of any other solutions at this point?
I don't like taking pills anyway so I did not want to take those 2 at the same time. I know Chantix has a lot of side effects also, but this problem with the noise in my chest started over 2 years ago. I also have been diagnosed with costochondritis. So that makes it even more difficult to figure out what is going on. PLEASE if anyone has any answers or suggestions let me know!
Antihistamines do help but it never goes completely. I've even stayed a few nights in a hotel away from my cats, dogs and garden. yes this also helps, about the same level as the antihistamines. But still it never clears up. I'm soooo over it! Please help.
She prescribed singular in the granule form. You mix it with juice or water. When I took in the prescription to be filled, the pharmacist told me he had to order it (it's in in the morning, so that's fine) and that most places didn't stock it because it wasn't common to see it prescribed in children this young. He said most of the time they are old enough for the tablets.
It should clear your mucus in a few days. If you have real bad sinus congestion, you might feel dizzy. Maybe that's why you feel light headed. I think the key points with thick mucus problems are excessive secretion of mucus and reduced flow of mucus, therefore you have accumulated thickened mucus in the throat. In order to reduce phlegm, we need to cut back mucus secretion and clear the mucus flow path. If we can acheive both, we will be ok.
My 4 yr old son and I have gone thru nearly 3 months of chest and sinus congestion. It started in our lungs, with some discomfort and has just hung around with no sypmtoms other than lots of chest congestion (rattling at night) and post nasal drip. I have never been allergic. My son is allergic to cats, and he has a baseline amount of sniffles, but this is different. Our doc suggested nasal irrigation but my chest is loaded all day!! Help!!! Our doc does NOT think antibiotics will help. Huh??
I don't have allergies of any kind and I'm in excellent health and I can learn to live with the smell of fresh baked bread in my nostrils.. I mean it could be owrse.. still I think I should get someone to check this out especially as I read about Phantom smells being a possible side efect of brain tumors...
The best way that I can describe the way I feel is almost as though I am on the verge of getting a cold, a little runny nose, loss of energy, a slight cough, and it feels as though there is a constant pressure on my chest, that kind of makes it feel like my breathing is slightly restricted and a slight pain in my chest. Almost feels as though my chest is full of water. Although, I don't seem to weeze like usual and I only occasionally get a crackle or wheeze while breathing.
If I stand up or go outside it helps to catch my breath. I'm going to get some tylenol chest congestion to see if that helps generate a productive cough. I also have 4 cats so I'm washing everything and vacumming immensely this week to see if maybe I've developed some sort of allergy. If you find out what's causing yours. let me know. Another thought is weather change.
Hi and THANKS for your input! I am renting a room in a large house where cats live in the basement, I am allergic to cats so I generally don't come into contact with them, unless one is especially cute and friendly and then wash up real fast. But I haven't touched these cats or any for a few years now. I did have outdoor cats that I LOVED when I was on an island for missionary work...4 years ago though. Anyway, What you offer here makes a ton of sense!
I've had numerous neurological symptoms. I do have a lump in my skull in my forehead called a Haemangioma of the Skull which caused severe pain and also spots on my brain MRIs so I am not sure what my problem is. My best wishes to you and I hope you find out what the problem is, it's very hard to be suffering so much all the time. keep looking for answers there must be one out there.
Live in Gilbert, AZ - air has been good since heat started - Took him off nasonex 3 weeks ago and after a week he started fevers/moodiness/not eating much/seems very mellow/today started bark cough from seemingly chest congestion/nose not runny. Not himself....could it be withdrawal from the Nasonex? What is a natural alternative?
Water behind the ears or something, past heavy chest breathing, feels like lump in throat, past deep congestion, mucus back up, nose drainage. Feels like rice crispy pops in my head or ears on top of my head and side headaches with pressure. Throat feels like it is in dormant with on/off flare ups. Could it be a parasite in the brain. No medication has worked if it is a deep congestion issue.
Sometimes more formal testing is necessary to be entirely certain about the diagnosis.
I was diagnosed with asthma last year following a chest infection which lasted for months. Then I was waking in the night not being able to breathe and producing huge amounts of mucous Yuck!!. I am 34 yrs old and never really suffered with anything for long. I new I was allergic to lots of things from having sinus problems at University so they tested me for allergies. What I hate about the asthma is you never really know when it is going to hit you.
the post nasal drip and chest congestion are 100% allergies. but im really concerned about the problems that i get when i am around smoke. the allergist said i dont have asthma but that my breathing improved 5% after the albuterol. he said i could take an inhaled steroid if wanted but it wasnt necessary. i am really concerned about the cough that i get when i am talking alot. im not sure if that is an allergy or smoke related. it happened last fall and is happening again this fall.
read the site, sorry I'm not real up on allergies although I know I do have some myself to my cats...mainly for me its sinus congestion, itchy eyes/ears/nose that sort of thing, I'v just started using aerius with some relief. good luck to you hon, I sure hope you don't have to get rid of the cats....remember even if you do the dander will be everywhere in your home anyway so may not be the entire relief you are looking for. please keep us posted and know how your doing. welcome to our forum..
Thus, at this point I'm considered to have reactive airways and on 250-50 advair which is either really helpful, or not helpful at all depending on the day (mainly in regards to congestion and/or stress). The doctor wouldn't start my allergy shots until we have the cough/possible asthma under control so it's just OTC meds for now.
as far as the bronchial herb, one thing that stands out is its distilled with alcohol and alcohol isn't safe for cats, there are many herbs in that formula, I couldn't find much info on whether they were all safe for cats...there are few herbs that are so I would be very cautious using this one, esp when its marketed for both cats and dogs...b/c dogs can safely use many herbs that cats cannot...I always err on the side of caution.
I moved out in 2005 and have since lived in 3 other residences. All with no cats or pets of any kind but the symptoms are still with me; Like you, my sinuses drain at night which is where my breathing and chest problems come from. I’ll check into the Guafenisen .
