Chest congestion from allergies

Common Questions and Answers about Chest congestion from allergies

chest

I have had asthma and allergies since I moved to Georgia from Florida 5 years ago. I have had constant congestion in my chest for the past year, it is yellow and green in color-my specialist in Miami has given me antibiotics, but, I still have the phlem. I have been on advair from the low to highest dosages,I was taking singulair, I am using albuterol sulfate with pulmicort 4 times a day, taking symbicort inhaler twice a day.
From the limited information you have provided, the cause of the "congestion" you describe is not obvious. But what is obvious is that having "difficulty breathing" with the most minimal exertion, walking rather than sitting, is indicative of a serious problem. You should seek medical assistance without delay, before your condition, be it disease of your heart or lungs, worsens. Do not delay. Good luck.
I have been around cats for years and recently came up positive for cat and dust allergy. I have chest congestion and a cough. I do not have asthma. The symptoms are not relieved by taking an antihistamine. I have had total elimination of symptoms with prednisone. Any suggestions other than living on pred?
I have a constant Nasal drip.
This may or may not be related to allergies. This can cause chest tightness and chest congestion to the point of coughing up phlegm. A nasal wash helps remove mucus and bacteria from the nose and sinuses. This can temporarily reduce the postnasal drip and make it easier to breath. A prescription nasal steroid spray decreases nasal swelling and mucus production. This may prevent the postnasal drip and chest problems.
I had thought it was from my allergies but I take zyrtec twice a day every day and nothing seems to be stopping this. It isn't from a cold because i have no other symptoms of a cold nor do I think it is a type of flu because I also dont have that bad feelings that we get with flu. Just the dry cough most of the time with it being very productive in AM. Can you give me any ideas what this could be and if I need to be worried about this.
Diagosed with PVC - had all testing done by cardio dr. Does anyone also feel a chest congestion with and without the PVCs? That is more bothersome than the PVCs sometimes. I think I have had the chest congestion feeling off and on for years and I thought it was allergies. Does anyone have this and do you know what this is?
he has developed a cough and congestion. the same symptoms appeared last summer during his swimming lessons. the doctor diagnosed allergy although he did not think swimming was a cause. since then we have gone through several rounds of antibiotics and antihistamines to no avail. should i stop the swimming?
When I feel like It's hard to get a breath through my nose I do a mouth breath and it's easy. Basicall nasal congesting from allergies are making it harder for the air to get sucked down. It's quite scary at the time but I know I can mouth breath when required, and also I can treat the congestion/ allergies. a small does of antihistamine keep it at bay. Hope yours is as simple.
I have had severe chest congestion, a sharp pain deep in the center of my chest, it causes shallow breathing because it hurts to breath in and causes a severe cough attack. This has returned 3 times now in the past three months. The first time I came down with this, I went to my primary care dr.
my daughter aged 1year 10 months is suffering from chest congestion since her six months of age. wheezing sound varies with season but her chest is never clear. cough also accompanies when her wheezing is increased, especially when she is sleeping. my mother and a few other near relatives have allergies and asthma, so what is think is that it is hereditary.
i once took claritin D for a week or so when i took the med i felt quite normal no congestion or anything for a couple of hours after taking the pill
I quitt smoking but since I have had chest congestion when I lie down on my back (or side). I can pretty much make it happen just by lying down. It rattles in my chest and I have to cough to make it clear. This happens once a day usually, sometimes more. I often have the same symptom standing up. I had a chest xray one year after the pneumonia and they said it was clear. I have been to two different doctors (five years ago) and they both said it was allergies.
I have not had a chest xray because my congestion has all been nasal congestion, not coughing. I do not take iron supplements because I was put on them about 4 years ago and my iron went down while I was on them. I was taking 150 mg supplements three times a day, meaning I was taking 450mg of iron a day just in supplements. Did that for a couple months, then got my iron tested again and it had gone from, I believe a 43 to a 41 (I might be wrong, it was a long time ago).
However, it will be rather easy for your allergist to tell after performing an examination and a pulmonary function test. It is very possible that this is due to allergies and to a mild form of asthma. Allergy symptoms change at different times of your life. Some go away and some new ones can develop. Seeing your allergist is a good start.
So mucus comes from the chest? Walita, honestly, in this case it is NOT time for exercise. Clear mucus spitting out in the morning, difficulty breathing and wheezing (?) after an exercise are main symptoms of asthma. You should visit pulmologist to have appropriate tests. Spitting up mucus in the morning obviously is not from not being in a good shape. Asthmatic like symptoms may be triggered by viral infection - do you have any fever or night sweets?
All the Chest X-Ray are clear with not problem. The recent Chest XR shows no acute cardiopulmonary disease. The CTA Chest scan shows clear lungs and the heart and pulmonary vasculature is normal. My question to you is: What else can be the problem? Please, I will appreaciate your professional advise or analysis.
and he has me on an antibiotic and suposedly something for congestion. He said I have a sinus infection, but this is the third week I've been sick like this and I'm just not getting better. Should I go back and have a chest x-ray to see if it's gone into something more than a regular sinus infection, or is there a home remedy or over the counter stuff I could take to prevent myself from going back to the Dr?
Jenny - never mess with breathing always go straight to your dr. Things can turn on a dime, I've had pneumonia and allergies and waiting is never a good idea. You need to take care of yourself. Pain is your body's way of telling you something is wrong, at 28 breathing should never hurt. Please see your Dr. Hope to hear back that you have an appt.
Hello All, Thank you for reading my post. I have had horrible chest congestion, chest tightness, and a cough (both dry and productive, yellow and clear). I don't normally suffer from allergies, and was also tested for asthma (which was negative). I already did a course of antibiotics, z-pack, and have been on decongestants too. Nothing seems to help. This problem has persisted for 14 weeks now, and originally I though it would go away, but it just doesn't.
Or perhaps it's due to unknown allergies, so I'm getting tested for GERD and allergies again. I have known allergies to dustmites, molds, cats and feathers. However, 8 weeks later and I still feel congested in my chest and I bring up some mucous. But I don't have so much that it causes rattling in my chest. My peak flows sit around 400 to 440 (best peak flow is 500). The asthma I think is pretty good, but I'm wondering when my lungs will settle down?
For some time now I have had problems sleeping and wake up at 5am having difficulty swallowing. It feels like I have the end congestion of a cold Sometimes I cough up discoloured mucus as well. Have seen my dr several times but he has perscribed omniparazole obviously thinking it is a digestive problem. Blood tests have come back ok. This disrupts my sleep every night. As soon as I awake and start the day although tired I'm fine. Any advice would be a great help.
It sounds like you have a chronic infection you need to see and ENT for or allergies that would greatly benefit from an allergist's treatment. See an allergist though. ENTs do treat allergies sometimes, but they generally use a less accurate test and don't have the training and equipment to deal with the rare reactions to shots. Take care.
I developed a strong sensitivity to coffee that is more like a mild anaphylaxis. It's not quite the chest congestion thing, because it's more of a chest tightening reaction. The point is, though, that food can affect us in more than one way. I'm sure that dairy and gluten are contributors in your case, too. Wheat is such a big staple in the American diet and even in other Western cultures. I used to cough up a lot of phlegm after eating.
I have the same nonstop nasal congestion- I hope it isnt from something called candidiasis which seems to be the only thing that makes sense; but that is a nightmare scenario; doctors dont know what is causing it. Did you ever get the right diagnosis?
Hello, I'm 25 y.o. male, non-smoker. I have the following issue: for about 2 weeks, every morning when I wake up and take a deep breath, my lungs sound congested, and make a "rattle"/vibration type sound, somewhere deep. It clears with one deep breath. Please note that it happens when I'm supine. It also happened when I was lying on either side, not too often though. Speaking of my past medical history.
