Avatar f tn The oral glucose tolerance test is conducted by measuring blood glucose levels five times over a period of 3 hours. In a person without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink, but then then fall quickly back to normal (because insulin is produced in response to the glucose, and the insulin has a normal effect of lowing blood glucose.
Avatar m tn Pregnancy Category 8 Most experts recommend that insulin be used during pregnancy to maintain blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, metformin should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly needed. There are no adequate and well-controled studies in pregnant women with metformin. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Metformin may not be right for you.
Avatar f tn And the colour it came up, he said I have keytone colours in my urine indicating higher glucose levels. So he sent me for a bloodtest . It's common for pregnant women to get diabetes during pregnancy then it go away once the baby is born .
231441 tn?1333892766 HHi Sally, It looks like you are doing good job of trying to optimize your health prior to trying to become pregnant, and that is definitely to be commended. A fasting of 100 mg/dL is just on the borderline of slight abnormality(impaired fasting glucose), as are your post-meal levels in the 150's(impaired glucose tolerance). I do suggest repeating the glucose tolerance test prior to trying to become pregnant, and also continuing to try to lose some weight.

Avatar n tn Thanks, that is exactly the kind of information it takes to relieve a nervous, slightly hypochondriac (sp?) father-to-be like me. If I'm this much of a nervous wreck now, I can only imagine how I'll be once the baby is born!! Thanks again.

194838 tn?1303428544 I do not test my own blood but am sent to the hospital for fairly regular tests but notice that when people post with their blood glucose levels they are in the 100s. I am from the UK and wonder if there is a conversion chart because I think it would be more beneficial if I could compare with others on the forum to get a sense of how im doing for comparison, Any advise would be greatly appreciated .
Avatar f tn Hello, Tingling sensations are a common feature in diabetes, stroke, multiple sclerosis and underactive thyroid, Abnormal levels of calcium, potassium, or sodium in your body and a lack of vitamin B12 and some neurological illnesses. Avatar n tn However, it was much more important to keep the after-pregnancy glucose levels low. Her doctors wanted between meal glucose readings never to go above about 130. For a gestational diabetic, this could mean having to reduce carbohydrate intake, for without any kind of blood-sugar lowering medication, carbohydrate intake is the only thing you can actually control. A typical "diabetic diet" is built on a system that uses a fairly high percentage of carbohydrates.
1276121 tn?1420860600 I hated the glucose test. I couldnt ever quite stomach the taste of the drink they give you. It is not bad execpt you have to stay at the doc office the whole time (at least I did mine). I found out I was an actual diabetic with my first son at 6wks. The glucose test showed me as gestational but doc warned with it showing like that in such an early phase in pregnancy that I was more likely to be a regular diabetic and he was right..it stuck with me even after I gave birth to my first son.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been a diabetic for 21 years of my life (diagonosed at age 3) and I am thinking of a marriage now. However, I have worries about complications during pregnancy. I would like to know that can diabetics give birth to normal & healthy babies? What do you suggest and advice on daily plans, excercise, and hba1c control? How critical is it for us (me & my partnet) to have a planned pregnancy? Please give us some feedback and will appreciate the same. Thanks.
Avatar f tn s the thing, my hcg levels were 778 on Monday, which puts me around 3 weeks on the chart. BUT with my first pregnancy, my levels were really low. My doctor went by the first day of my last menstrual cycle. If I did that this time. I would be 7 weeks 5 days. Dies this make any sense? Is it possible to be further along than my hcg levels show? I'm getting a new doctor and wonder if they will go by levels or last period.
Avatar n tn The main thing for you to focus on is testing often and trying to keep your sugar levels as normal as possible all throughout the pregnancy. Most doctors want pregnant type 1 diabetic women to keep their glucose levels as low as possible without risking hypoglycemia. And the way to do this is to test more often than usual and adjust often. More insulin if levels go high, juice if levels drop low. If you test often, you can catch both problems and normalize them.
Avatar n tn The reason is that diabetic women have a slightly greater than normal chance of miscarriages or of birth defects if glucose levels are high.
Avatar n tn I am not quite sure what your question is about concerning the alcohol. Are you asking which to drink first, or asking what the effects might be? The answer is that alcohol lowers the liver's ability to release emergency sugars that all people store in their livers in case they haven't eaten in a long time and glucose levels drop (which can happen to non-diabetics as well as to diabetics, but which can be life-threatening to the type 1 diabetic).
Avatar f tn I'm a opposite. My morning wake is high. Above the 5.3. After meals I'm less than the 6.9. What are you having for breakfast? I'm stuck having a cup of oatmeal with milk. No fruits during my meals, only snacks. No pop or juice. I'm on day time insulin if my dinner Dont impoverishe.
526089 tn?1237137449 t worry there are diets that are very safe for suger levels and will help during your pregnancy for the suger levels that drop during the day. I had gestational diabetes for my 3 children and after the birth it disappeared and everything returned to normal each time.
