I would not think that Chantix would affect your thyroid, but everyone is different. Are you still taking Chantix? I am assuming not. ALso, I feel compelled to mention that I too had the symptoms you had, except for the trouble breathing, and my vitamin D level was extremely deficient. You may want to get that checked. d strongly recommend that he get his thyroid tested, because hypothyroidism can really sabotage weight loss. Best to know up front, if that's a concern. He needs to get TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 tested.

I took Chantix 2 months before I finished my first round of treatment. I was smoke free within 3 weeks of starting the Chantix and on March 4, 2008 I will be smoke free for an entire year! They recommend that you use the Chantix for 3 to 6 months. I did so well with it that I was off it in less than 3 months. When you start forgetting to take it you know it's time to come off it. If I could, I we be a walking advertisement for Chantix.

I, too, smoked for over 40 years. Between that and severe acid reflux, I had built up excess tissue on my vocal cords, to the point that I could hardly talk. I'd gotten to the point that it was so painful to even make sound that I tried not to talk as much as possible. I was sent to an ENT, who said he could remove that tissue (it wasn't cancer, but he was sure it would be soon), but he wouldn't touch me until I had quit smoking for 2 months.

I just started my weight loss program and I am a chain smoker!!! I work out and feel great but then I have a cigerette and there goes my energy. I want to quit so bad but everytime I have tryed I cry, have cold sweats, bad moodswings and a VERY short temper. I had an allergic reaction to Chantix (med to help quit smoking) and my doctor prescribed 6 days worth of Prednisone. This is some evil S***. Makes me feel really hyper but not a good hyper. Lots of energy - too much in fact - but no focus. Makes it so I can't sleep. Feels like I can't eat enough (the last thing I need is to gain weight - self esteem already pretty much sucks). The only positive to all of this is that yesterday at work I was flying high and initially feeling pretty good.

advised me to stop using them at once, since that time almost daily i will start itching all over and scratching causes me to have welts where ever i have scratched i have been taking 2 byendryl caps a day to stop the constant itching and i am wondering if i have developed some kind of allergy to nicotine, i still smoke but way less than before but i have had some depression due to the illness and then loss of my job and a failed relationship so the Dr.

My mother in law went on the chantix program. She was a smoker of over 50 years. She has been on Chantix for 3months. She actually lights her smoke but does not smoke it. She does this twice daily. She really has quit. It is amazing!

Some people stay the same or actually gain weight on treatment which is hard for me to understand but it happens. When you think about it though, we're trying to consume higher fat foods to enhance ribavirin absorption and those types of foods tend to stick the ribs more. You have to be careful after treatment because it's easy to pack the pounds on and cholesterol shoots up with many too.

First thing...stop the Chantix. Yes, in many people even those with no history of major depression Chantix is proven to have the potential to cause depression. There are better ways to stop smoking than to alter your brain chemistry.

can anyone tell me if people who have HIV suffer weight loss before any treatment etc.

just is not fair. also quit smoking with minimal weight gain (using chantix). so if doing so good for my body, did this happen?

i recently did a blood test and my Doctor told me I had hypothyroid. When asked if this could contribute to my weight loss, he said I should be gaining weight instead! What seems to be happening?

I had hyper symptoms (sudden anxiety, heart palps, hair loss, lump in throat, insomnia) but I gained weight. This started almost immediately after I quit smoking. I took Chantix to quit. Finally got blood work done and in Feb., my TSH was .01. Radioactive iodine uptake and scan confirmed diagnosis of hyperthyroid. Had another test in July and my TSH rose to 4.05. Still no treatment but doc felt sure my thyroid "burned out" and I had become hypothyroid.

I am not sure when I will do treatment, but I am about 30 pounds over weight because I have been out of work for 2 years and just put on weight. Anyway my question is, my gastro doctor said I need to lose weight so the treatment will help me but I dont understand cause everyone says that you lose treatment when doing treatment. has anyone heard that if you are over weight you need to lose so tr will be effective?

I can go from 8 am til 1pm without a cig. then after the 1st i just keep smoking them all day long. I have only been a hardcore smoker for about 10-11 months. But I have been smoking off and on for the past 4 yrs when i use to do drugs. So my question is will it be any easier for me to quit since i haven't smoked for long? Also should i get chantix from my doc.?
