By the way, you can always tell that a drug is affecting brain neurotransmitters when you see those warnings they give out, as you do with Chantix, and they warn that they can cause suicidal and violent thoughts and the like. This warning is a dead giveaway that the drug is affecting similar things that antidepressants and anti anxiety drugs and anti psychotics are playing around with.
wellbutrin is great also to stop smoking but it is also and antidepressant. Also if you take it make sure to keep an eye on your blood pressure. It raised mine through the roof with no blood pressure problems to begin with.
I used Chantix and had absolutely no extreme effects. A bit of upset stomach was the worst of it. I took it for a month and a half and have been quit for 1 year and 1 month!
There are times when I still feel and urge, especially when stressed, but it goes away in mere seconds and it doesn't happen often : )

I have a question for those of you who used the Chantix to kick the cigarettes. I have smoked on and off for years, and I have quit several times for long periods of time, but this time I am in need of some sort of assistance doing it (the thought of no cigarettes is worse for me than the thought of no norco ever was). I don't want to spend any more money on cigarettes, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, I always have, pretty weird for a smoker, huh?
Zyban is the same as Wellbutrin which is a commonly prescribed antidepressant and is an NDRI meaning norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor.
So basically the concept of the medication is that when you quit smoking you quit getting your regular dopamine fix (the brain rewards you for smoking a cigarette by releasing dopamine which makes you feel good.) The zyban, over the course of a few weeks, stops your body from breaking down the natural dopamine in your brain as quickly.
I started 75 mg of generic wellbutrin 2 days ago and was wondering if anyone could tell me about there experience with this i suffer from anxiety and depression. I am having really bad anxiety and i dont know if it is from the medication or me worrying about taking it. How long does it take take effect? anything anyone could tell me would be great.
I know Zyban is another smoking cessation aide but that is another name for the anti-depressent Wellbutrin and an anti-depressent alone in bipolar can often worsen mania. Those are the two that are clinically approved and in standard use. Others are in experimental use.
You might want to consider a prescription of Wellbutrin which is an anti-anxiety med (I think). Wellbutrin was used before Chantix came onto the scene and it had a fairly high success rate. In any case, it will help calm you through the tough times ; )

The family doctor has finally agreed that these symptoms are negative effects of the chantix and he needs to go on anxiety med and see a counselor. I have read on other blogs that other users are still fighting symptoms after years off that drug. Has anyone else been fighting the effects of this awful drug? We are emotionally devastated to see what was once a strong, healthy, active young man turn into a bundle of nerves and anxiety.
The reality is that these drugs - Chantix and antidepressants (which includes Zyban, which is the drug Buproprion also known as Wellbutrin) interact with our brain chemistry and Chantix has not been around long enough to have comprehensive and conclusive long term reasearch evidence (researches talk that basically means we don't know what we may find way down the road and all new Rx's have this risk).
I tried the patch, but I just ended up smoking on it and getting even more of a nicotine buzz. Some people have had success using Wellbutrin too.
I took Chantix for 6 weeks and I haven't smoked in nearly 1 year and 2 months. Although Chantix is generally prescribed for 3 months, and it really should be taken for that long, it is rather expensive and some try to stop using it before the recommended time.
I smoked for 38 yrs. and I thought I would die a smoker. The defining moment came when my doctor asked me to "just try chantix, what do you have to lose".
Early pregnancy and can't quit smoking entirely-yes I know it's AWFUL and am mad at myself and feel terribly guilty but I can't seem to give it up completely. Anyone know if chantix or the patch is better or worse than actually smoking & pg? Ideally I'd be able to quit but can't so far.
For 17 months i am still undx will get tests back in a few days ...and i want to finally quit smoking but they want me to wait to fill the prescription until all my tests come back now im getting worried ...
Certainly it's better if you cut down on the cigarettes. Ask your OB or RE to prescribe Chantix for you. I hear it's ok to take during pregnancy and it really helps with trying to quit smoking.
Know you're not a lone if you can't quit, many women aren't able to completely quick during pregnancy and the baby turns out okay. I'm not endorsing it of course, just letting you know that you're not the only that's pregnant and could just cut back.
