chantix

Avatar f tn I ended up stopping the Chantix and am trying to quit using the patch and sucking on tons of lolli pops
407029 tn?1253992623 If I could, I we be a walking advertisement for Chantix. I had tried the patch, the gum, zyban and hypnosis in the past and got absolutely no where. Chantix is a wonder drug as far as I'm concerned. To me the benefits of Chantix far out way any of the risks.
Avatar f tn Early pregnancy and can't quit smoking entirely-yes I know it's AWFUL and am mad at myself and feel terribly guilty but I can't seem to give it up completely. Anyone know if chantix or the patch is better or worse than actually smoking & pg? Ideally I'd be able to quit but can't so far.
Avatar m tn I took Chantix for 6 weeks and I haven't smoked in nearly 1 year and 2 months. Although Chantix is generally prescribed for 3 months, and it really should be taken for that long, it is rather expensive and some try to stop using it before the recommended time. I smoked for 38 yrs. and I thought I would die a smoker. The defining moment came when my doctor asked me to "just try chantix, what do you have to lose".
444932 tn?1273980797 Sorry to hear that you had to quit the chantix. I guess I was one of the lucky ones! There are no quick fixes and even though chantix made it easier, there were still withdrawals and cravings. If you have had success using the patch then you really should try that again, read whyquit.com and post to the board when you are feeling vulnerable. Good luck!
950277 tn?1247274551 We even have a free patch program! Pick up the phone and tell them you have a problem and they give you a choice of patch, gum or losenges. All in all, with determination, education and a failing body, that's really all it takes to have a successful quit.
469210 tn?1219188128 To conquer fear of quitting there are 2 ways you can go about it, just do it and quit cold turkey and start soon so your not thinking about this and stressing or slap on a patch, get chantix and get going!!
Avatar f tn advised me to stop using them at once, since that time almost daily i will start itching all over and scratching causes me to have welts where ever i have scratched i have been taking 2 byendryl caps a day to stop the constant itching and i am wondering if i have developed some kind of allergy to nicotine, i still smoke but way less than before but i have had some depression due to the illness and then loss of my job and a failed relationship so the Dr.

147426 tn?1317265632 There is a side effect of nightmares but they will pass as you get used to the patch. I only used the 2nd and 3rd step because the 1st one was too strong and gave me major headaches. My hubby's insurance covered these patches and my dr. gave me an Rx for them as she said she would rather see me on the patch than smoking two packs a day so I was on the patch for about 4 months and then I just stopped using them after weaning to the weakest patch for about 2 weeks.
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
334876 tn?1229979296 s time to quit being the Marlboro man and quit smoking, my doc finally gave me the rx for chantix so I guess this is day one and I should see how good it works in about 7 days as it tends to taper off the well to smoke Wish me luck Cowboy
444932 tn?1273980797 When I read on the Chantix quit line that if you failed the first time, to just keep taking your Chantix and set another quit date. So I did, and I will try, and maybe it will work, but I like what you did and can only hope that that is the way it will finally work for me too. That just little by little, over time, those urges WILL begin to fade and I can see that I'm smoking less and less and will just one day, like you say, "that's it!
385161 tn?1270081218 I use it during the week and remove on weekends. On weekends I smoke and then put the patch back on and start a smokefree week again. This has happened 2x already and i am going on my 3rd shot. Does anyone know if this is even safe to do. Smoke on saturday and sunday and then use a patch mon-fri? I am on the lowest dose of the patch and obviously having trouble kicking my habit still.
874521 tn?1424116797 Hi I'm 59 and also smoking since 12.I'm new to this community...I've stopped and started so many times I have lost count...and with always some cheating, except for one 3 month period when I needed to undergo surgery, thought I had it beat!! As of today I am once again QUITTING...and want to try the support route this time around. I think the trick is in REALLY REALLY WANTING TO QUIT!! the mind is a powerful tool.
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor to take the time and explain the difference and the side effects of both meds. Also, Chantix costs roughly $120. and is not covered by most insurances. Better still, do the research beforehand so you know what to ask your doctor. To often they want to rush you out of their office with being thorough. Also, following Teko's journal is an excellent idea. She has been active on this board for a long while and was very instrumental in my quit.
Avatar f tn t any sure bets, but I did quit using Chantix and I never, ever beilieved I would be able to. I smoked for 38 yrs. and I was pretty hard core. When my doctor prescribed the pill, I really didn't believe in it, but thought, why not try. I was very surprised to find that, in the end, I had lost all of my cravings. A suggestion.........read the materials at whyquitdotcom and really prepare yourself for what to expect.
Avatar f tn My husband is currently taking Chantix and its been a week now and so far no side effects, but i got to tell ya we are both a little cautious on this med. Honestly, i quit smoking 3 months ago CT, i felt that if i can kick opiates butt then cigs are a walk in the park. I felt that with the cigs it was really mind over matter nothing like the opiates.
595141 tn?1239971814 com my doctor gave me a script for it. My daughter is usuing the patch and not having as good of luck as i had. My doctor was trying to give me scripts for antidepressants to quit drinking lol, no way would that have helped i had to do that one on my own. Good luck, try chantix IT REALLY WORKS. I smoked for 40 years and quit in less than 3 weeks.
729288 tn?1251254433 I will pay the $215 on monday for my shipment then I am waiting the 2 weeks suggested and beginning. Here is my question. I am also on chantix.. the stop smoking drug. I really need to stop because I think 27 years is long enough to smoke for anyone. Does anyone know if it will have any kind of reaction? My doc told me to go ahead it wouldnt hurt me.
Avatar m tn I have a question for those of you who used the Chantix to kick the cigarettes. I have smoked on and off for years, and I have quit several times for long periods of time, but this time I am in need of some sort of assistance doing it (the thought of no cigarettes is worse for me than the thought of no norco ever was). I don't want to spend any more money on cigarettes, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, I always have, pretty weird for a smoker, huh?
Avatar f tn I just quit after over 40 years. I am amazed that I did it. I havent smoked in 6 weeks and 2 days and I'm doing a suboxone taper at the same time. I used the patch (2 not 1) and I sucked on the lozenges. When I got the urge I just said I know it will go with momentarily and it did. I started smoking at 13, quit for 7 years from 40 to 47, smoked til now (60 years old). Every cold was turning into bronchitis or pneumonia. I just had it. Now if I cdan only be so lucky with the opiate LOL.
Avatar f tn I then went to the doctor and got a prescription for Chantix, but never got it filled. Instead I took the patch off and went cold turkey. It was a hard few days, but after that each day got a little easier. The withdrawls begin to go away, but I would find myself thinking about smoking. To this day the thought will occasionally across my mind, but I just resist. I won't even take a hit for the fear that it would trigger the addiction again and I never want to go through quiting again.
380558 tn?1309042387 thing is, I have smoked since I posted this, but not alot at all.. (can't remember how many cigarettes I had yesterday- maybe like 7 or 8) But dang good from having a whole PACK! lol I go to my doc on Monday, hopefully my insurance will cover the Chantix. I've been hearing some really good things about it.. I spoke with a lady/RN from The American Lung Association and she explained to me that NUMEROUS quit from taking Chantix.. It'll work for me, or I'll just take something else.
