chantix

385161 tn?1270081218 I use it during the week and remove on weekends. On weekends I smoke and then put the patch back on and start a smokefree week again. This has happened 2x already and i am going on my 3rd shot. Does anyone know if this is even safe to do. Smoke on saturday and sunday and then use a patch mon-fri? I am on the lowest dose of the patch and obviously having trouble kicking my habit still.
Avatar f tn Early pregnancy and can't quit smoking entirely-yes I know it's AWFUL and am mad at myself and feel terribly guilty but I can't seem to give it up completely. Anyone know if chantix or the patch is better or worse than actually smoking & pg? Ideally I'd be able to quit but can't so far.
Avatar n tn Although Chantix does not contain any nicotine, it acts on nicotine receptors in the brain. This is how the drug works to help people stop smoking. By binding to nicotine receptors, it blocks the effects of nicotine at those sites, helping to prevent the pleasurable effects of smoking. However, Chantix doesn't just bind to nicotine receptors; it also acts a little bit like nicotine, which may help to prevent symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I ended up stopping the Chantix and am trying to quit using the patch and sucking on tons of lolli pops
Avatar f tn advised me to stop using them at once, since that time almost daily i will start itching all over and scratching causes me to have welts where ever i have scratched i have been taking 2 byendryl caps a day to stop the constant itching and i am wondering if i have developed some kind of allergy to nicotine, i still smoke but way less than before but i have had some depression due to the illness and then loss of my job and a failed relationship so the Dr.
Avatar f tn t any sure bets, but I did quit using Chantix and I never, ever beilieved I would be able to. I smoked for 38 yrs. and I was pretty hard core. When my doctor prescribed the pill, I really didn't believe in it, but thought, why not try. I was very surprised to find that, in the end, I had lost all of my cravings. A suggestion.........read the materials at whyquitdotcom and really prepare yourself for what to expect.
380558 tn?1309042387 thing is, I have smoked since I posted this, but not alot at all.. (can't remember how many cigarettes I had yesterday- maybe like 7 or 8) But dang good from having a whole PACK! lol I go to my doc on Monday, hopefully my insurance will cover the Chantix. I've been hearing some really good things about it.. I spoke with a lady/RN from The American Lung Association and she explained to me that NUMEROUS quit from taking Chantix.. It'll work for me, or I'll just take something else.
Avatar m tn I realized that for me I am more addicted to the oral fixation than the nicotine. I need to be able to put something in my mouth and blow out smoke as I quit. The patch and gum just dont work for me. Thanks ahead of time for your advice.
874521 tn?1424116797 As for the patch, I prefer the gum because I prefer to just use as the urge gets overpowering and not have a steady dose of nicotine into my system....and after a few weeks I am successful at stopping the gum altogether...I should mention I only chew 3-4 pieces max per day at my worst..... this time I am using the 21mg patch temp. than will switch to the gum...don't know if this is wise or not but has worked for me in the past( for a few months)....
Avatar f tn I did the nicotine patch and I was on the patch for 2 months. Havent had a smoke since. Takes will power tho. Wasnt so much the nicotine but just the habbit of lighting up that I missed. Its either ct or nothing when it comes to the cancer sticks. Its easier than quiting the drugs but I think I miss the smokes more than the meds. Good luck.
Avatar f tn t think you need the Chantix, but rather the Welbutrin which would be a better choice. You have already reduced your nicotine, which is what Chantix does, and when you step down, your body will adjust to the lower dose, probably better then you expect. The Welbutrin which was given to patients who were quitting long before Chantix, will have a calming effect. Ask your doctor to take the time and explain the difference and the side effects of both meds. Also, Chantix costs roughly $120.
Avatar f tn I still get the nicotine and the sensation of smoking but am slowly breaking the habit and lowering the amount of nicotine. I'm hoping that I will be smoke free in a couple of weeks! Best of luck!
Avatar f tn com) which is nicotine free and contains ingredients that relieves the irritability that is related to nicotine withdrawal and also alleviates the cravings for cigarettes. I have read the testimonials and it sounds like a good product. Does anyone have any comments on this product? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Your supposed to smoke for the first 2 weeks so your body builds up these receptor blockers and when the 2 weeks is up you quit all together. When I used chantix I quit after 2 weeks and didn't really have cravings, it was more them mental part that was a little harder. You can do it tho :) The cravings don't last that long, during the cravings find something to do to take your mind off the smoking. I did laundry, cleaned, ate lol and before you know it, its gone.
Avatar f tn I was hoping to get some input from both professionals and patients alike about their use of both Chantix and the patches to quit smoking permanently.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I tried Chantix and had horrible nightmares and felt like I was crawling out of my skin during the day; terrible experience. I have recently quit smoking again (7 days now) with the help of the gum and was doing pretty well until last night and today. I feel agitated, depressed, exhausted but can't sleep and I don't want to be awake, anxiety (which always brings a little agoraphobia with it), weepy, rage, and just your basic rapid cycling fun.
Avatar f tn Certainly it's better if you cut down on the cigarettes. Ask your OB or RE to prescribe Chantix for you. I hear it's ok to take during pregnancy and it really helps with trying to quit smoking. Know you're not a lone if you can't quit, many women aren't able to completely quick during pregnancy and the baby turns out okay. I'm not endorsing it of course, just letting you know that you're not the only that's pregnant and could just cut back.
Avatar f tn Talk to your doctor. Your SVT complicates your quitting. A nicotine patch could cause things to be worse, and smoking is obviously not a healthy choice. Your doctor will be able to help you through the worst parts of this challenge. Good luck!!!
Avatar f tn Smoking provides immediate relief and over the counter meds or diet/exercise changes do not seem to work. Does it just take many months for the Nicotine to leave the system and for gas symptoms to stop? Do I just need to stick it out longer?
Avatar f tn I know i must quit smoking and for the last 2 weeks iv only smoked about half as much as i use to but i want to put them down for good so my health will get better because i want to live i have to much to live for and both my parents died from smoking related causes so i know what will happen to me if i dont get serious and quit.Im going to look into the patch and chantix tomorrow and thanks again.I hope im making sense but iv had so little sleep im allmost a zombie today.
Avatar n tn m doing just the gum because I have PTSD (so they say) and my doctor was concerned about flashbacks and other issues that arise from Chantix use. Hope this helps, and best of luck! Been smoking for 45 years, quit the 15th, and I'm doing well!
Avatar n tn Way to go! Congrats on your quit and good luck on your surgery!
469210 tn?1219188128 To conquer fear of quitting there are 2 ways you can go about it, just do it and quit cold turkey and start soon so your not thinking about this and stressing or slap on a patch, get chantix and get going!!
Avatar m tn t mean you were depressed, it means you felt a bit better because nicotine causes an increase in dopamine release and Chantix mimics this effect as it blocks nicotine from attaching to nicotine receptors. Wellbutrin, when your body absorbs it and it works for you -- these drugs are very individual and people get very different outcomes from them -- does the same thing in a different way and in a more direct and powerful way.
3079363 tn?1363273715 Hi... If you have health ins check with them some policy's cover the nicotine patch, the nicotine inhaler, chantex, and or the "fake" cigarettes I found the nicotine patch worked for me... Don't get me wrong after 33 years it was tough to stop but it can be done!
