Avatar n tn I was reading through all of your posts and how you guys are saying you are addicted. Well, my husband has got you beat as to the amounts of gum you are chewing. He has been on Nicorette 2 mg gum for 20 years after chewing tobacco for 15 years or so. He has never tapered off--fortunately, not gone to 4 mg either. The easiest way to tell you how much he chews is that in a week, he goes through 1 1/2 to 2 boxes. Each box contains 110 pcs.
768479 tn?1234907306 ) That was 16 1/2 months ago. vqnguyen, I had none of the complaints that others did so I would do my homework on them if you should decide to use it. You can go through the archives here by using the search feature on the top of the page. Whatever you decide, good luck and make sure you prepare for it.
Avatar f tn I know a few people who still chew gum years later after quitting smoking. I used chantix and still take a few pills a week as dirested by my doc and am doing well.
Avatar m tn I do go to a dentist for a cleaning and check up twice a year however I have recently become a first time daddy and want to quit, and I mean I really want to quit. Are there any ways or methods that are out there that can help me overcome this difficult addiction. I chew approx. 1 1/2 cans per day of Grizzly Long Cut Wintergreen. Thank you!
Avatar m tn I am a BIG proponent of Chantix as a cessation aid. I took them and had absolutely ZERO problem leaving them alone once I put them down. I quit for a year and then due to family tragedy, slipped and that''s all she wrote. It's like you never quit after that first cigarette. At least for me. So if your friend is looking for something to make her actually quit, Chantix is the way to go.
874521 tn?1424116797 Hi I'm 59 and also smoking since 12.I'm new to this community...I've stopped and started so many times I have lost count...and with always some cheating, except for one 3 month period when I needed to undergo surgery, thought I had it beat!! As of today I am once again QUITTING...and want to try the support route this time around. I think the trick is in REALLY REALLY WANTING TO QUIT!! the mind is a powerful tool.
Avatar n tn You are not the first to claim that Nicorette is an addiction and I can imagine, like any other addiction, that over time it will show some effects. I'm glad to hear that you have given it up and if it becomes to much to handle, post here and we can try to help you through it. There was someone else that posted on this forum regarding Nicorette. Read the post and leave a message. Hang in there!
1831849 tn?1383228392 The first things I did were quit smoking and clean up my diet. My PCP gave me Chantix, which helped immensely. I am still chewing Nicorette gum. She said that the nicotine did not pose nearly the health risk that the smoking did. As long as I was "given permission" to chew Nicorette forever I could wrap my head around not smoking. The diet thing was easier. Even though I'm a carb junkie (I have way too many kinds of flour in my kitchen :-) http://www.kyleskitchen.
7163794 tn?1457366813 I can tell you,, since I'm literally doing the same thing your doing right now, dizziness is normal! I am a pack and a half a day smoker for 40 years and I had to whopper nose bleeds about a month ago, literally one on a Sat and one on a Sun. Went to the dr the next day and my blood pressure was 157/130. I'm taking the Chantix and chewing the S&&T our of Nicorette!!! But I'm getting there. I do feel a bit insane as well but that could be the Chantix!
Avatar n tn I am 54 and started smoking about 10 years ago. I would stop for a few months and then start again. I found I smoked from bordom and running out of my Klonpin and Xanax too soon. I really don't like the feeling of hot smoke going through my throat and into my lungs. Then I get this caugh the next morning. When I get a cold or have to stay in bed a few days, I don't smoke. I take advantage of that time to start the no smoking cycle.
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
Avatar f tn I was addicted to the Nicorette gum for years and years. I think I would have been better off quitting from the patch. To get off the gum, I substituted cinnamon gum, one piece at a time for the nicorette. Sorry to say, I am still addicted to the cinnamon gum just not the nicroette gum. If I were you, I'd transfer over to the patch (you will still be addicted to the nicotine, but the mouth thing will leave). Gradually leave the patch on longer and longer.
729288 tn?1251254433 I will pay the $215 on monday for my shipment then I am waiting the 2 weeks suggested and beginning. Here is my question. I am also on chantix.. the stop smoking drug. I really need to stop because I think 27 years is long enough to smoke for anyone. Does anyone know if it will have any kind of reaction? My doc told me to go ahead it wouldnt hurt me.
1013194 tn?1296459481 I wonder if you read through the archives regarding long term use of nicorette? I personally know a few who have been chewing and are addicted to it. One has been chewing now for 12 years and suffered his second heart attack : ( His doctor is convinced it's because of his prolonged nicotine intake, even though its through the gum. Here is a link to someone elses candid talk about long term use: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn I have a question for those of you who used the Chantix to kick the cigarettes. I have smoked on and off for years, and I have quit several times for long periods of time, but this time I am in need of some sort of assistance doing it (the thought of no cigarettes is worse for me than the thought of no norco ever was). I don't want to spend any more money on cigarettes, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, I always have, pretty weird for a smoker, huh?
642313 tn?1244071722 I am on my first 14 hrs after quitting nicorette gum. Ive been chewing nicorette for more than 8 years. And I have tried to quite several times with no real lasting success. This time I believe I can do this. I thinks so because today is also day 193 of me quitting Subutex and and Lortabs. About six months ago I jumped off my last pill and I've made it this far. Now I am ready to quit this Nicorette Gum thing. I chewed incessantly.
Avatar m tn Hey.I heard to ease cravings take a bath with Epsom salt and it pulls some of the nicotine and toxins out of your bloodstream. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn As for the nicorette gum, it may cause tightness of the chest and it is recommended that you stop if you feel this tightness. As for the hiccups the nicorette itself would not cause it, but it could be the way you are chewing or swallowing.
777204 tn?1235623895 Listen...you say you want to quit, but I don't think you do. Because if you wanted to quit, that's all there is to it. Not smoking a cigarette instead of smoking a cigarette. No detour, or nicotine gum, or patch or anything like that will help you quit until you decide never to smoke another cigarette again.
Avatar m tn The best thing for me woes the Nicorette spray like a mouth spray I hade the patches and gum but never worked for me I woes like you 15 to 20 a day for 5 to 6 years and I had a hell of a time trying to quite but the spray helped me allot
Avatar m tn Hello everyone,I have a progressive case of hepatitis C and want to use the drug Chantix to quit smoking and worried about the side affects.Does anyone have any knowledge of this drug interaction.
Avatar n tn For 17 months i am still undx will get tests back in a few days ...and i want to finally quit smoking but they want me to wait to fill the prescription until all my tests come back now im getting worried ...
Avatar f tn No why don't you try nicotine gum and see if that helps i think it's called nicorette gum
Avatar f tn Certainly it's better if you cut down on the cigarettes. Ask your OB or RE to prescribe Chantix for you. I hear it's ok to take during pregnancy and it really helps with trying to quit smoking. Know you're not a lone if you can't quit, many women aren't able to completely quick during pregnancy and the baby turns out okay. I'm not endorsing it of course, just letting you know that you're not the only that's pregnant and could just cut back.
