Chantix and heartburn

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix and heartburn

chantix

I started on Chantix today...I only smoke about a half a pack a day, but can't seem to break the habit on my own and have heard good things about chantix. I am concerned about how long I need to take the med since I am a light smoker, any chantix users or doctors comments?
Chantix is a drug to quit smoking and works on the neurotransmitters in the brain. After I took this drug for two months my thyroid problems kicked in. I did have a nodule pre-Chantix, but it was being watched and there was no growth. Now I'm having big-time thyroid problems. Went to a x-mas party and two other women had thyroid problems, fibromyalgia type symptoms also. Any others out there with similar scenarios???

When Dr. sent me home from the hospial he had me taking TUMS 12 a day and everyday after minus one till one a day and continue till the bottle is empty. I should be at one a day now. I am having bad heartburn and eating about 5 to 7 the last two days. I am newly diagnosed with Hashimoto's not on any meds for it.

Hi, I used Chantix but could only tolerate 1/2 the dose prescribed then I quit taking it 5 days after I had my last cig. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and am on enough meds. That was almost 3 months ago and I am still smoke-free after smoking for 35 yrs. Good luck.
anyway, I originally quit last July with the aid of the lozenge, but I only used it for 5 days as it produced a lot heartburn for me. Plus, when using an aid, one has to deal with nicotine w/d AGAIN so why not just get it over with. It takes 3 days for nicotine to leave your system, then as you know it's all mental after that......after a second relapse, today is day 6 for me and I still feel congested with a little coughing included, but I feel so much better physically.
I work out 5 times a week and am on the Eat-to-be-Lean program. Two months ago a began looking and feeling VERY bloated. I have heartburn issues for the past 4 years. My doctor sent me for a HIDA scan and the ejection fraction was 20%. (I had a HIDA scan four years ago and that ejection fraction was 40%). A recent ultrasound showed no gallstones and an abdominal/pelvic ultrasound was normal.
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis along with many other medical problems and I was still able to do it. I used some Chantix to help me then 5 days after I quit smoking I quit the Chantix. Please do post when you are in need of support. I try to check the forum daily.
He prescribed Prilosec for the possibility it was a stomach issue and gabapentin if it was nerve related pain. I also get a prescription for chantix so I can start the process of quitting smoking. By this point I had finished the medrol and lortab. A week or so later I received a letter in the mail with my test results. They indicated both my blood glucose and cholesterol were high. He had ordered an OGTT test and I was to have it completed before my next appointment.
This last time I was on the gum over a year. I finally went to the doctor and got a prescription for Chantix. Yes Chantix does work but I cant take the side effects. It makes my muscles ache at night and makes me so extremely tired. So then after I had quit the gum after using Chantix I had a really bad day and bought a pack of cigerettes. Got tired of smoking and got the gum and I cant stop chewing the dang gum!!! As soon as the flavor runs out I just gotta have another piece!!!
If you're taking Tums for calcium, this can cause bloating. I can't remember what it was, but when I was pregnant and had terrible heartburn, I was popping tums several times a day. I asked my OB if it was safe and she said it was fine, but that it was probably why my ankle swelling was worse than usual b/c something in the tums causes water retention. Anyway... just remembered that this morning and thought I'd share.
I have no sore throat or hoarseness or any other throat/esophagus symptoms. I do have very occasional heartburn that responds easily to Zantac. Thank you very much.
Started taking Chantix (smoking cessation drug), quit smoking, changed toothpaste (from Colgate maxfresh to Crest pro health) and toothbrush (generic to generic), added biotene to my h2o2 regimen, took vitamins for a few days, took generic unisom for a few nights, and i think that's it.
