Avatar m tn How does one evaluate the risk of clot formation without blood thinners versus the risk of bleeding in the brain when on blood thinners? A neurosurgeon told me that blood thinners were definitely out. Is an eventual stroke then my only option?

Avatar m tn I have had coronary heart disease now for 7 years. A stroke in 2004 left me with left side weakness due from a large blood clot. Then another stroke in 2008 from another blood clot that hit behind the left eye. I had angioplasty in 2003 for a 75% and 90% blockage but no stents. After the first stoke I was put on Coumadin and thin soon thereafter put on only two baby aspirin.

Avatar n tn However understand there is an increased risk for bruising, bleeding, and internal injuries while on blood thinners. It might not be the best time to take up downhill skiing. I hope this helps. In general compassion will help to get someone motivated. If you know someone with circulation issues or diabetes, come along side of them. They usually didn't consciously choose to be that way, and may have emotional issues that are contributing.
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
Avatar m tn The blood thinners you speak of would reduce your platelet count so the initial injury, if bleeding, would want to keep bleeding due to the thinned blood. However, it is your white blood cells that do the healing and they are not affected by blood thinners. So I wouldn't be concerned about it unless you observe that it is taking a REALLY long time to heal.
Avatar n tn Those with mitral vale problems and those who have had the valve repelaced are at increased risk of clot formation. Hence, they need to be on blood thinners. With time, most need a change in dose. Normally patients on blood thinners are kept at an international normalized ratio (INR) of 2.0 to 3.0. If the INR is low or near 1.00, this means the blood is pretty thick and likely to cause clot formation.
Avatar f tn my friend has a generic blood disorder and must take blood thinners daily. she has developed severe back pain and has been instructed to have an epederal for the pain. the docter chosen to give the epederal will not do so until she has not taken blood thinner medication for 5 days. her family doctor is furious and says she can not lay off the thinners. my question is: why would she need to not take the medication just to have an epederal.
Avatar m tn Im nervous about the procedure because im on blood thinners. What are the risks? Any advice going into this?
Avatar f tn This chemical is made naturally by the body and has the effect of making the veins and arteries relax and widen (dilate). When the blood vessels dilate in this way there is more space inside them and hence less resistance. This makes it easier for the heart to pump blood around the body.
Avatar n tn Im very confused because I was planning a home birth and my doctor that wants me on blood thinners is 80+ yrs old and tells me I need to be in a hospital to deliver at my apt last week and I was 35weeks. When I asked him why he said so they can blood transfuse me when I start to hemmorage after taking the blood thinners. Im terrified now that im going to bleed to death and wondering if any one else has done this and how they are making out.
Avatar n tn You need to get your INR and prothrombin time done if you are on blood thinners and need to adjust the dose of blood thinner accordingly. Get a stool test for occult or hidden blood to confirm that you have gut bleeding. You could also bleed into the lungs. Hence please consult a doctor immediately and find out if you are bleeding inside, and to rule out other causes of anemia like vitamin B12 deficiency. Take care!
729288 tn?1251254433 I will pay the $215 on monday for my shipment then I am waiting the 2 weeks suggested and beginning. Here is my question. I am also on chantix.. the stop smoking drug. I really need to stop because I think 27 years is long enough to smoke for anyone. Does anyone know if it will have any kind of reaction? My doc told me to go ahead it wouldnt hurt me.
Avatar f tn all drugs have tons of side effects and listed and unproven problems. I know chantix has some, stomach, depression effectsbut never heard of the heart palpatations or the other stuff. I have been taking it for over a year with just about no problems. I only take a few a week and it has been a big help to me.
Avatar n tn The Interior lining needs repaired and thinners dont do that. Doctors have no clue. Stents and thinners are all they understand. Then you are on your own to research natural supplements. So what do we do and where to look? Its Scary.
Avatar m tn I have a question for those of you who used the Chantix to kick the cigarettes. I have smoked on and off for years, and I have quit several times for long periods of time, but this time I am in need of some sort of assistance doing it (the thought of no cigarettes is worse for me than the thought of no norco ever was). I don't want to spend any more money on cigarettes, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, I always have, pretty weird for a smoker, huh?
Avatar f tn When a person has a pacemaker do they stay on blood thinners the rest of their life? What about ablations--does a person have to take blood thinners for that after? If so how long?
Avatar f tn Ended up in the Hospital for a week, with the clots, etc.. I was tested for blood clotting disorders and have been on blood thinners since Sept. Hospital reading first came back positive for Lupus Anticoagulant, then said it was a false positive. Protein C & S still testing low, but I do not know what that means exactly. Any reason one would just develope unexplained blood clots? Any relation of blood clots to the Graves?

Avatar f tn Has anyone been put on bedrest until delivery and use Blood Thinners Heparin and Lovenox to keep from getting blood clots?
984138 tn?1359813073 DON"T DO CHANTIX. My son, 19, took chantix for 3 months and the research was not done on young people. He did quit smoking but at a great risk to his health. It has been 10 months of hell since he went off the med. While on the med he has mild side effects but after many blood tests, a positive ANA and anxiety/panic attacks - he is slowly getting healthy again. We did not do our homework and the result was a very sick young man.
Avatar n tn Hi ladies in March of this year I had a blood clot in my lungs and I have been on blood thinners Xarelto since. I just found out I was pregnant yesterday any advice? I have already contacted all my doctors I'm just worried abt my fetus!
Avatar f tn Does anyone here have this same type of history and had to be on blood thinners before the surgery? I am a bit concerned about this because I am afraid of bleeding during the surgery due to the blood thinners. From my understanding I will have to be on the blood thinners a couple of days before surgery. Anyway, this really scares me. I am NOT on blood thinners right now - haven't been in almost 2 years.
770426 tn?1235061489 Hi - I'm new to your forum and I'm so happy I found this site. There is so much great information here and with my upcoming PVI ablation, I'll probably drive you all nuts with questions after the procedure. I was diagnosed with paroxysmal afib exactly 2 years ago and I'm extremely symptomatic when in afib. I've been somewhat controlled on Flecainide up until a few months ago.
