Changing from escitalopram to citalopram

Common Questions and Answers about Changing from escitalopram to citalopram

lexapro

Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn But he gave me a 6 month supply of Escitalopram (Lexapro) instead of Citalopram. Escitalopram is just the S enantiomer of citalopram, and apparently has better anti-anxiety effects. Today I finished my previous stock of Citalopram. Unfortunately, my doctor here near my flat is on holiday, tomorrow is All Souls Day which is a holiday too. The next appointment I can get is probably next week. Is it okay to switch to Lexapro? I mean, I have no other choice as of now.
1451182 tn?1285107397 I have been newly dignose with HIV and have a T cell count of 701 and a viral load of 8 thousand and something I have also been dignose with depression a year ago. I just started back taking Citalopram 40 mg and I'm taking a vitamin B-Complex. I have been have moments of weakness, diharria, headaches, and chest pain for the last week or so. I just want to know if I'm doing something wrong?
1166402 tn?1303847056 I was thinking about changing from Celexa to Lexapro. I still have obsessive thoughts and feel the Celexa might not be doing anything for my anxiety. What about Effexor? I heard the withdrawals are bad? What about Buspar? Any luck with that drug?
Avatar f tn Since you seems to have problem to tolerate antidepressants did you ever try SJW or 5-HTP? You never know...
Avatar m tn I have been on escitalopram / citalopram for a few years but will be switching to the above.
1001742 tn?1252685847 Cipralex is an anti-anxiety pill. Escitalopram belongs to the group of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). It works by increasing levels of a neurotransmitter called serotonin in the brain. Increased serotonin levels can lead to an improved mood.
Avatar n tn I was on Lexapro (escitalopram, quite similar to Celexa/citalopram) a few years ago, and was withdrawn abruptly from it by my doctors. For me, the shock sensations lasted for about 3 months, but during that period they became less and less frequent over time. It's a really bothersome withdrawal symtom, but just remember that it won't last forever. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Both citalopram, (Celexa) and escitalopram, (Lexapro) are SSRI's and both have, as unlabeled uses the control of panic. They both also have CNS side effects of anxiety in the beginning stages of treatment. You say you've been on the citalopram for approximately 5 weeks? It can take up to 35 days for citalopram to reach "steady state" in your blood, which means you won't begin to feel any real relief from your depresson for possibly a bit over a month.
Avatar m tn s in 40s when i sleep and it varies from 50s to 140s every hour during the day, which cardiologists think relates to anxiety. I decided to go to psychiatrist and so she saw severe anxiety and gave me ssri antidepressant escitalopram which made me a lot worse, my heart rate was 90-100 even when i wanted to go to sleep.
Avatar m tn Paroxetine (Paxil), Fluoxetine (Prozac) and Citalopram/Escitalopram (Celexa, Lexapro) are inhibitors of CYP2D6 - the enzyme responsible for metabolizing lots of medications. Fluvoxamine (Luvox) is inhibiting another enzyme. Sertraline (Zoloft) do not have this side effect, and Venlafaxine (Effexor, a SNRI) is also perhaps a good choice, as itdood said. Citalopram and Escitalopram are both prolonging the cardiac repolarization and they are usually not recommended with arrhythmias.
Avatar f tn escitalopram appears to have a better press that most when it comes to weight from what i've learned from my trawling of the internet, as it has even been commented about how often it's use can lead to people often losing weight. This is something that has been concerning myself as well as I would stay as far away from mirtazapine on this issue as possible, although the damage initially with mirtazapine subsides over time it is initially quite a shock.
Avatar n tn I had a similar experience with Celexa, which is a very similar drug (celexa is citalopram, lexapro is escitalopram). I also had low blood pressure (78/58 at one point), and worsening depression, which really wasn't helpful since that's what I was taking it for. I was only on it for 4 weeks though...
Avatar f tn ( , im scared about changing my med from prozac to Escitalopram even though ive only been back on the prozac a month , im in such a pickel :( i want my life back
Avatar m tn I do not believe 25 mgs of Zoloft caused you to suffer from serotonin syndrome. Escitalopram is a good med as is Zoloft. You only took the Zoloft for one day so there will be no problem with changing meds. You should, however expect side-effects. They should subside within a couple of weeks, but be prepared and don't give up too soon. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Was on dutonin, got taken off market, citalopram 14 years, stopped working. Escitalopram and trazadone gave me palpatations, prozac major bingeing. venlafaxine i was too scared to go on aft hearing lots of negatives about it. Really hope this one goes well as its for anxiety and depression both of which i have.
Avatar f tn Zoloft (sertraline),, Celexa (Citalopram), and Lexapro (Escitalopram). Stay away from Paxil (Paroxetine) as that treatment has as much or more sweating than Prozac. Hope this helps...
Avatar f tn looking on the net i discovered wellburtrin, so i will ask my gp if i can swap over to this. i just want to know would i stop taking citalopram and start taking wellburtrin, or would i cut the dosage of citalopram down and take the new wellbutrin with it. i really need to change as the weight gain can not go on, i have even considered stopping my medication which would mean having my anxiety and panic disorder back in full force....
Avatar m tn The psychiatrist thought changing meds might help, so we weened her off the escitalopram going from 20mg - 15 - 10 - 5- to 2.5mg over the coarse of a month. After getting to 2.5mg for a week we went one additional week taking 2.5mg of escitalopram at night and 10mg of Prozac in the morning. The transition was really difficult, but the withdrawal symptoms have gone away. Today the psychiatrist said to stop the escitalopram entirely and just take 10mg of Prozac each day.
