Avatar f tn I need to lose weight, I have a child with special needs, I'm a single parent and time is very short. I don't have a lot of free time and any I do get is in short bursts of 1 or 2 hrs.. I would welcome any dietary or exercise idea's as I'm fed up of living on convenience and junk food. Bad diet and stress is making life more difficult than it needs to be but I don't no where to start changing things.
6231275 tn?1379901818 I just started a vegetarian diet what would be the best diet for vegetarian to lose weight?
1085545 tn?1284042254 I am also a vegetarian and found I had to make some drastic changes in my diet, but I am now able to eat a variety of foods and enjoy cooking again. What you need to reduce is your intake of carbs. If you are used to eating a large amount of rice (for me the problem was pasta) you will have to change that.
Avatar m tn Under normal circumstances, there seem to be many heart health benefits to a plant based diet, yet I am concerned that shifting to more green foods will increase clotting factors, which is undesirable considering I have 2 new stents installed. I would like to know if this is an issue as some investigation suggests that Plavix works by a different mechanism than other blood thinners which are known to be affected by Vitamin K in green leafy plants.
549913 tn?1278499261 d recommend that you take a fibre supplement is reintroducing red meat to your diet. Psyllium husks work well for me. Be sure to drink LOTS of water if you take them. They expand internally and help clear out the intestinal tracts.
Avatar f tn I would eat every day, changing my diet to be almost vegetarian, but because it takes a lot of study to make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need on a vegetarian diet, you should eat a small amount of fish or chicken every day. The size of a deck of cards is all you need every day. Do not fry anything. Avoid foods like cake, bread, cookies.
Avatar n tn Very classy for her to call it a vegetarian diet. Actually it is a junk food diet. Who ever heard of a vegetarian diet that omitted fruit and vegetables! What you have is a very lazy sister. And she is going to have one unhealthy child.
915369 tn?1355314810 Hey everyone! I was diagnosed with Crohn's about a year ago, and have since then been on a few medications and have settled on Imuran. Now, I have no complaints about my doctor, he's actually fairly good at what he does and he goes out of his way to help me and all his other patients but I find he doesn't have the time to really go in depth with my questions.
Avatar n tn Of course I want to keep my baby safe, but am skeptical of why I need to go on a diet (a diet that some of my friends are on and doing terribly on because of all the restrictions) where I can't eat many of the things I depend on as a vegetarian, when only one of my #'s was slightly elevated. Doc said he understood, but just wanted to give me the option of going to the dietician. I declined, with an agreement that if I start spilling glucose in my urine, I would go.
599170 tn?1300973893 Oh, hi Cherie, and WELCOME! I admire anyone who embarks on a healthier eating regimen. Unfortunately, I know nothing about a vegetarian diet and wouldn't want to pretend to know! You can believe someone will. Hang tight, you came to the right place. Congratulations on your success so far, and you've done it with challenges - so good for you! Keep reading posts; keep responding to posts. Keep comin' back for more! So glad to have you!
Avatar f tn Some nutrients, such as methionine and B12, are very difficult to get in a vegetarian diet or a vegetarian vitamin since they're largely found in animal food, but it's easier to do in a vitamin than just by vegetarian diet, but since you're not a vegetarian you probably don't have that problem. I think taking a multivitamin is a good idea, because it's always been very difficult to get everything we optimally need in our diet, but mega-dose vitamins should be avoided.
Avatar f tn Want to transition to a vegetarian diet! I am a type1 diabetic for 36yrs and this disease degenerates. What supplementation should I embark to maintain a balance nutritious way to eat?
Avatar f tn Are you currently a vegetarian? If so, there is no need to alter your diet as long as you are getting plenty of protein from not meat sources.
Avatar n tn There are those that can benefit from just changing their diet alone. I know of at least one PATMer who only needs to change his diet, nothing else. I can’t even tell that he’s got PATM because I hardly see anyone coughing around him. According to him he has get very close for it to happen. Possibly your condition is severe like mine and needs a little more work.
Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I've been vegetarian for the last 17years. Any more vegetarian pregnancies out there?
Avatar n tn I have gall stones but they have never been a problem since leaving UK and changing to Mediterranean diet, of course with treatment I've had to change my diet several times and am now vegetarian and can't tolerate bread or wheat. I am of a mind to just grin and bear it as I am so close to finishing treatment but with the weight loss compounding things I feel as though my body is finally saying STOP any advice on easing this pain and debilitation?
528396 tn?1217526013 Yes, I have been tested for everything and each test came back negative except for BV. I have tried changing my diet, I actually went to a no meat totally vegetarian diet for about a year. I get BV even when I don't have sex and believe me, sometimes it can be six months to a year before I have sex, who wants to have sex with that sort of smell down there.
526889 tn?1212540641 For your age you need 1500 calories daily to safely lose weight. I would recommend a Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Avatar f tn 1. Can I consume soy products? Is it suggested to consume soy products thrice every week. (I'm not sure about this. Somewhere I have read that soy has protein and for PCOS one should combine carbohydrate with protein, so it is good to have soy products. I have also read soy has phytoestrogen (estrogenic activity) so it will add to the already elevated levels of estrogen in the body of a PCOS sufferer, so it should be avoided.
Avatar m tn But I have been a little disappointed in the two cardiologist I have dealt with in that neither brought up the issue of lifestyle or diet and seemed to be going through the standard motions of verifying I was taking the prescribed drugs. Yet hen I read studies posted at the NIH/PubMed website there seems to be clear benefit to lifestyle interventions.
Avatar m tn The right lobe of the thyroid measures 7.5 cm in length x 2.7 x 2.6 cm. It is moderately enlarged. There is a hyperechoic nodule seen associated with the right lobe which measures 10.7 x 7.0 x 8.0 mm. The left lobe of the thyroid is enlarged measuring 7.5 cm in length x 2.1 x 2.6 cm. Avatar m tn The other nutrient hard to get in a vegetarian diet is methionine, an amino acid, so again, you need to work to get it but it can be done. Iron you only need what you need -- too much isn't better as it can affect the heart adversely -- and as with most minerals can be found in many green leafy vegetables, beets, and in foods that grow in the ocean. One other substance that can help build blood cells is chlorophyll, which is one of the things that makes green foods green.

Avatar n tn Eating a vegetarian diet isn't any different than eating any other way. You need enough protein, complex carbs for energy, and antioxidant rich foods such as colored veggies and a moderate amount of fruit. That's a balanced diet for anyone of any origin. Given that if you're living in India and they've been eating a vegetarian diet there for centuries, there are a host of people there you probably know who can help you.
Avatar n tn If you are a vegetarian for animal-cruelty reasons, add eggs and cheese to your diet. I was a vegetarian for a long time but I ate fish and poultry when I was pregnant.
