Avatar n tn I am not a physician, but a volunteer and the mom of a type 1 diabetic. I would suggest you call your son's endocrinologist or CDE (certified diabetic educator). I would go over your sons training schedule, school schedule and meets. They would be the best to advise you as to how much your son should eat as a snack before hand and how to regulate his insulin for meets. Exercise and stress can lower Blood sugars so your son might require less insulin and more carbs.
Avatar f tn The most luck women tend to have are with certified nurse midwives (have a 4 year degree plus additional midwife training) or certified professional midwives (still trained but only in midwifery). As long as you find a certified, competent, and experienced midwife and are low risk (as in no diabetes or pre-eclampsia, placenta preva, etc.) then this is a safe option. I also highly recommend going to the ICAN website (ican- online. com) for support and educational resources :) Best of luck!!
Avatar n tn My strong recommendation to you is that you get a referral or just make an appointment with a Certified Diabetes Educator or Diabetologist or Endocrinologist. Folks with TYpe 1 typically test 4-10 times a day, I'm not sure what's recommended for Type 2. I do notice that you're doing all the testing and for each diabetic, we must -- as individuals -- take responsibility for our care, if we have the mental & physical ability to do so.

Avatar n tn You might consider speaking with your doctor or finding a diabetes educator to work with. A CDE (certified diabetes educator) can work with you to create a meal plan and give you information about to keep your sugars under control with food and lifestyle. There's an organization for CDE's and on their website I think you can search for one iny our area. Asking your doctor or the local American Diabetes chapter is another resource. Diagnosis can be scary.

They have the same amount of education and training (actually a bit more) as an M.D. I was deemed "disabled" and told my working days were over. I didn't listen and struggled for eight years to continue my career when I changed physicians. I was about to throw in the towel when this wonderful D.O. changed my life.
