Common Questions and Answers about Cellcept vs imuran

cellcept

Avatar f tn Okay hears the deal I was put on prednison when I was 17yrs old along with imuran, now i know the effects of prednison obviouly, it being a steroid there usually are some weight gain and moon face etc as common side effects. Now I'm 19yrs old and they have me on cellcept. I have always been extremely active even to due to my fatigue but I cannot loose a pound, I will work out 24-7 and change my diets often to see if anything changes and...nothing.
Avatar n tn Hi Sezzie1, I have been taking Azathiorprine also known as Imuran for about 5 weeks now. I was in the hospital with vasculitis of my heart because of the lupus I have and they put me on Prednisone and Aza. before I left the hospital. I am happy to say I have not had any negative reactions to it.
Avatar n tn I was given Imuran and high doses of prednisone for 7 months. I was aware that cayenne pepper is excellent for your circulation so I took it and 3 days later I only had trace inflammation left. I'm off all meds but now I'm left with all these problems. My eye-lid swells and I have proptosis. Sometimes it is slight and then other times I look like a fish.
312330 tn?1245176752 My doctors are leary about trying cellcept or imuran because of my liver. Cytoxin has been mentioned, but that too seems to be hard on the liver.
Avatar n tn I understand that Prednisone does a similar thing as Imuran (however Imuran is the best thing to treat my condition.) Is there anything besides Prednisone? I was on 5mg of Prednisone earlier this year (in place of Imuran), but my liver enzymes were very bad according to the lab work I had done at the time. Would a higher dose of Prednisone be an option? Is that also harmful to a developing baby? Thank you for your help!!
Avatar f tn When that happens, the doctor increases PanGraf / Cellcept dosage and a particular steroid (wysolone). After that the enzymes go back to normal - except GGT which goes down but still remains well above normal (say, falls from 1800 to 300).
Avatar n tn Hi, I have AIH & have been in treatment since 2002. Started out with larges doses of prednisone & Imuran. Cut back on the predisone as doctor permitted & am now down to 2.5 mg of prednisone & 50 mg of Imuran ( a generic version of it). All is fine now with me & doctor informed me last month that as long as I stick to regiment should be no problems, I am not going to die from this. What meds are your husband on & what did his biopsy say?
741900 tn?1235160618 It screwed up my blood and i ended up losing 40 pounds in less then a month and with my blood test results it was either the imuran or i had cancer so i had to go to a hemotologist and go off imuran and get so many blood tests for so many months just to make sure it was the imuran and not cancer. Thank god it was the imuran. I started taking it again and went up in dosage slowly and so far so good.
Avatar n tn I'm a patient with autoimmune hepatitis type II, and my doctor has just perscribed cellcept in an attempt to reduce or stop use of prednizone. It is really important to me to try and have a child, but I'm afraid if I start cellcept that I shouldn't get pregnant. I know cellcept is a class D drug, and discussed my concern with my doctor.
Avatar n tn I had a breakthrough with Avonex so my dr. recommended adding cellcept to the avonex shots. If so can you tell me how you have done with cellcept. Thanks!!!!
Avatar m tn Hi Angie... The 7 times of Meningitis sounds familiar but mine has been since Oct of 08. So really, I feel I have had meningitis nonstop. I have been to Mayo 5 times and there still is no definate diagnosis. They call it autoimmune meningitis, systemic inflammatory disease of unknown origin (that's my favorite) and autoimmune encephalitis. I have had over 25,000 mg of iv steroids since Sept 09 and I am on cellcept too. (Imuran didn't work) Nothing was helping!
902019 tn?1249861414 I can only tell you personally that I have had no side effects from Imuran & have been on it for over 7 yrs. However, whenever my prednisone was cut down I would get the muscle pain which I guess I would call arithritis. Now, I am on 2.5 mg of prednisone & doing fine along with the 50 mg of Imuran. Hopes this helps some & best of luck.
Avatar f tn The doctor says he proposes to take my mother off CellCept altogether at some point in time and only PanGraaf will be needed for the whole life - in the meantime the doctor may prescribe CellCept in on / off basis.
Avatar f tn that affected my legs so my Dr. just prescribed Cellcept. I filled the prescription yesterday and was scared to death after reading the literature on it. What is PPMS? I will be interested in seeing if anyone has used this medication too. Sunnyb.
778275 tn?1326913623 After a upper respiratory infection last month I have been having someone more weaknesses and even a slight breathing problem at times, so he wants to put me on Cellcept. The problem is Cellcept can cause Lymphoma and other side effects and infection risk,. I want to get off Prednisone due to weight gain and creeping up hypertension and the Mestinin digestive problems are a real pain.
Avatar f tn Anyone on cellcept having back pain? I've been having back pain for a couple of weeks now, wake up earlier and earlier in the morning with my back aching and when I move it I get these stabbing pains. It all goes away when I get up, and I've managed to sleep a bit in the morning in a half-seated position, so it's really related to lying down. I just read someplace that cellcept can cause back pain, but I haven't been able to find any info on what kind of pain. Could this be it?
507935 tn?1217359454 Whenever I get that run down feeling though it reminds me of how I felt on the imuran. I was on 150 mg as well of the imuran. 6 MP is basically the same drug but made by a different manufacturer. But if my Dr. puts me up to 150 mg I get high levels of toxicity w/the 6 mp as well. I can not go above 100 mg. Have your Dr. check it out. It sounds like it could be part of the problem. It is called a imuran toxicity test. Simple blood tests. Takes about 5 days to get the results...
1135761 tn?1260557094 my doctors have reduced my cellcept in half. 1000 mg 2x day to 500 mg 2x day. they said my symptoms are common and reducing the cellcept should help. any comment?
507935 tn?1217359454 Is it the same type of deal with imuran? Do you have to be weaned off it as well or can you just stop taking it and be fine?
422425 tn?1307992990 Just a question to see if anyone who has taken Imuran suffered from heart failure, or fluid retention after starting it. I just got out of the hospital, and they didn't think it was the cause. I am curious because I just started that drug 1 month ago, and then POW! heart failure. I have been off of it for a week now, and I have lost almost 20 lbs in fluid. Just wondering.
Avatar n tn My question is, is there a link bewteen imuran and heart failure? I have found that imuran can cause a increased heart rate, but could it be responsible for these episodes? Thank you for any help you may be able to give in this matter.
Avatar n tn when you say adding some cellcept might be a good idea, does that include trying to lower my prograf some?
Avatar n tn I have been sffering with colitis now for about 6 months and well have tried everything from salofalk to control it prednisone (60 mg a day) um entocort and now imuran with prednisone and well just can't get it under control. I am seriously considering trying some marijuana to see if maybe it will calm things down or maybe stopp my flare up completely now i know it will relax me but is it really worth a try? I am not sure if i should ? anybody have any experience with this?
Avatar f tn I need to make a decision on what to take after going off treatment and the hepatitis reoccuring. My doctor says I can take more prednisone and less Imuran or more Imuran and less prednisone. What is more damaging?
483733 tn?1326798446 His doctor is thinking of trying him on Imuran after his cycle of prednisone. Has anyone tried this? Was it really helpful? Was it worth the risk?
1781490 tn?1318651465 ed with SS around 2000 and SPMS in Jan of this year. My Neuro has me on an immunosuppressant (CellCept 2000mg ) I have been on the CellCept a little over 6 months and it seems to be helping with both the SS and MS. I have noticed that my symptoms ( including fatigue ) have not been as bad...though I am still getting worse... just not as fast. But it could also just be a cycle of less decline and not due to the CellCept.
