Common Questions and Answers about Cellcept pml

cellcept

Avatar n tn I'm a patient with autoimmune hepatitis type II, and my doctor has just perscribed cellcept in an attempt to reduce or stop use of prednizone. It is really important to me to try and have a child, but I'm afraid if I start cellcept that I shouldn't get pregnant. I know cellcept is a class D drug, and discussed my concern with my doctor.
Avatar n tn I had a breakthrough with Avonex so my dr. recommended adding cellcept to the avonex shots. If so can you tell me how you have done with cellcept. Thanks!!!!
Avatar f tn The doctor says he proposes to take my mother off CellCept altogether at some point in time and only PanGraaf will be needed for the whole life - in the meantime the doctor may prescribe CellCept in on / off basis.
Avatar f tn that affected my legs so my Dr. just prescribed Cellcept. I filled the prescription yesterday and was scared to death after reading the literature on it. What is PPMS? I will be interested in seeing if anyone has used this medication too. Sunnyb.
778275 tn?1326913623 After a upper respiratory infection last month I have been having someone more weaknesses and even a slight breathing problem at times, so he wants to put me on Cellcept. The problem is Cellcept can cause Lymphoma and other side effects and infection risk,. I want to get off Prednisone due to weight gain and creeping up hypertension and the Mestinin digestive problems are a real pain.
Avatar f tn Anyone on cellcept having back pain? I've been having back pain for a couple of weeks now, wake up earlier and earlier in the morning with my back aching and when I move it I get these stabbing pains. It all goes away when I get up, and I've managed to sleep a bit in the morning in a half-seated position, so it's really related to lying down. I just read someplace that cellcept can cause back pain, but I haven't been able to find any info on what kind of pain. Could this be it?
Avatar f tn Next month will be my 8th infusion. It does take about 6 months to get the full effects of Tysabri. I was very concerned about PML & have followed it much. The earliest PML happened was at 8 months for a person using it for Crohns, before it was pulled from the market in 2005. The latest case was after 26 infusions in 2008. I thought I will just start it & not worry about it until I get to that 8 month and decide then.
1135761 tn?1260557094 my doctors have reduced my cellcept in half. 1000 mg 2x day to 500 mg 2x day. they said my symptoms are common and reducing the cellcept should help. any comment?
572651 tn?1530999357 This early exposure to immunosuppressant drugs sets the body up to being susceptible to PML. PML in Europeans is MUCH greater than in North Americans, where the CRABS are the platform drugs for MS. I hope you can make sense of these disjointed notes. I am happy to entertain questions if something isn't quite clear.
Avatar f tn I read about this yesterday. While it is not godd to hear that PML is occurring with Tecfidera use, it is good to see that PML is no longer 100% fatal.
4848471 tn?1372238752 I signed up for Tecfidera before I learned there was a PML risk for that drug as well. I really need some guidance here!
738075 tn?1330575844 • Although the absolute risk for PML in patients treated with Tysabri cannot be precisely determined, the U.S. FDA and the company have released data suggesting that the risk increases with increasing time on therapy. • The company changed the label of Tysabri to indicate that the risk of PML is increased in patients who have been treated with an immunosuppressant (such as mitoxantrone, and less commonly, azathioprine and methotrexate) prior to receiving Tysabri.
Avatar m tn I would like some information/details from anyone who has had (or seen) the rash you can get from Tysabril and/or PML?? I have been on Tysabri 10 years so far without any major issues. I was outside after my treatment for 10 minutes or so. After taking my shirt off, my husband gasped and asked what was wrong with my back.
Avatar f tn Okay hears the deal I was put on prednison when I was 17yrs old along with imuran, now i know the effects of prednison obviouly, it being a steroid there usually are some weight gain and moon face etc as common side effects. Now I'm 19yrs old and they have me on cellcept. I have always been extremely active even to due to my fatigue but I cannot loose a pound, I will work out 24-7 and change my diets often to see if anything changes and...nothing.
Avatar n tn when you say adding some cellcept might be a good idea, does that include trying to lower my prograf some?
Avatar m tn yes, PML is fatal, always. I got my information from the Tysabri official website. Although those numbers may/may not be correct, you need to look at what these people were on, medication wise. This is important. My theory is that "there is no free ride" regardless of what drug you go on for what condition you might have. You can also call Tysabri at their toll free number and talk with them without being a patient. Their number is on the webside.
Avatar m tn In the majority of cases, the culprit lesion is limited to the posterior mitral leaflet (PML), which is treated with quadrangular resection of the prolapsing PML, annular plication of the corresponding segment of the annulus, and prosthetic annuloplasty.
Avatar f tn Genentech withdrew its psoriasis drug Raptiva from the market yesterday, citing the risk of developing progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a rare, often fatal brain infection. The drug will be phased out by June 8 of this year, according to a statement by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)." http://www.the-scientist.com/templates/trackable/display/blog.jsp?
147426 tn?1317265632 My doc told me that statistically people with a titer below a certain level have NO increased risk of PML. Above that level the risk of PML goes way up, possibly even higher than the 1 in 1000 which is the standard risk quoted. Interesting enough, it is not a linear risk, meaning that your risk does not seem to go up as your titer goes up from zero. These are the numbers that my neuro gave me, but I don't know the exact units.
Avatar f tn I take Cellcept for 2 and a half year. How long will last taking of this medicine because my hair and stomack can't stand it any more?
216354 tn?1262871346 Last week when she went to the doctor, she was informed that patients who has been on the tysabri infustion for over two years have a greater chance of developing the brain infection PML. I believe she was told the odds went up to 1 in 800. However, she was also told that if she were to stop tysabri she was pretty much guaranteed to have an attack of the MS. She has an agressive form of MS and other medications don't seem to work.
Avatar m tn I had no adverse reaction of any kind to either med. The risk of developing PML, a rather nasty brain infection, is remote with both meds, but higher with Tysabri. Other considerations include insurance coverage. The use uf Rituxaqn for the treatment is "off label". This means that even though it has been used successfuly for years, the manufacturer did not submit Rituxan for FDA approval specifically for MS treatment.
