Celexa withdrawal headache

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa withdrawal headache

celexa

Avatar f tn After taking Celexa (generic) for a little less than a year, I decided to quit cold turkey 2 weeks ago. Although I know weening from medication is the best idea, I wanted off Celexa quickly. I have had the usual withdrawal symptoms you'd expect (dizziness, nausea, headache, etc) but what I did not expect was the symptoms of restless leg syndrome. It is TERRIBLE. Is it possible to get RLS symptoms because of Celexa withdrawal or do you think it's unrelated?

497348 tn?1283436066 Some patients may experience withdrawal reactions upon stopping citalopram.
497348 tn?1283436066 Since this post, have you started taking the celexa? I took it for one month two months ago. The only symptoms I had were trouble sleeping and I could not orgasm. It helped me with anxiety though and when I got angry, I did not get as agitated as usual. I then tried zoloft and experienced the same symptoms only worse insomnia and I didn't feel like it helped my anxiety. Oh, and I did not have withdrawl symptoms.
Avatar n tn did not have money to get Cymbalta refilled, been off 1 1/2 weeks, I was getting so sick, thought maybe a bug, but after reading these comments no doubts about it, its withdrawal. Headache, fatigue with absolutely NO energy, crying, dizzy, vomiting, chills then hot flashes, crazy nightmares, , man the whole gammit has hit me, thank goodness payday is tommorow, I wll never let them run out again,,, this is horrible.
Avatar n tn i have been taking zoloft for about 9 days 50 mg and prior to this i was on celexa i now at night sweat my heart pounds and legs shake and twitch how long does this last and is it normal?
Avatar f tn The first five days I felt horrible. Was this withdrawal? I was told I would not have withdrawal symptoms. The doc said to use Tramadol for break-through pain. I also take Celexa. I know Tramadol has big contraindications with both drugs. If I take any it's one 50 mg once or twice a day. When I do I feel really bad, like dizzy, light breathing, just not me at all. I've seen on the boards that people take Norco for break-through pain. Will that work?
Avatar n tn I have never been on Celexa myself, but I have read many posts regarding withdrawal from it and it seems to take people a month or two to feel completely normal. If you put Celexa up in "Search Medhelp" you can read other posts specific to your question. Everyday should get a little better. Take care.......
Avatar n tn ssri withdrawal can be worse than opiate withdrawal. Doesn't have to be, but some are hit very hard by it. You seem to be one of those. Never stop these cold turkey. If you can't handle the withdrawal, go back on the last dose of Celexa at which you felt fine and taper down as slowly as you need to.
Avatar f tn That is a very interesting story, going cold turkey on Celexa and not having withdrawal side effects. For anyone reading, do not do this because the withdrawal mental effects can be unnecessarily agonizing and pointless. In your case, you had no choice the way you describe it, so I am not passing judgement. What was your dose? You should talk to a pharmacist immediately though for information.
Avatar n tn Does withdrawal from Celexa cause nausea & vomiting? I quit taking it cold turkey 5-6 days ago. While I realize this is not a good idea, it was not intentional. I called my pharmacy for a refill. They said I had no refills left and they would call my doctor for it. Unfortunately, this was over the weekend. Apparently, my doctor's office did not respond to the pharmacy's request.
Avatar m tn I have been on 40mg of celexa for the past 3 to 4 years. The doctor prescribed it to me because I was going through a depression and decided that I wanted to take this medication. I haven't seen this doctor nor am I able to since I am out of college, where I saw my doctor. 3 weeks ago I stopped taking it cold because I ran out. I didn't think anything of it since I was feeling fine. The past 3 days I have been feeling bad.
1166402 tn?1303847056 You might be experiencing withdrawal from the Celexa. Remeron is a different antidepressant that will act differently on you neurotransmitters. For example, Celexa was only inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin while Remoron is an antagonist of the 5-HT1A receptor and is most likely to affect your dopamine and noradrenaline (by affecting the adrenergic and 5-HT receptors) levels while not inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin itself as it's a serotonin receptor antagonist.
457882 tn?1235377080 he also prescribed me 20 mg celexa and i wondered if i should wait to get over withdrawal or take it now as im going through the withdrawal...
Avatar n tn Just to say that I once tapered off Zoloft and was started on Celexa - the pdoc had me do this way too suddenly and I had bad withdrawal. In my case I found that the Celexa didn't help me and I wish I had realized this sooner, I waited months until I felt really horrid and ended up back on Zoloft. May not be the case with you, but just wanted to mention the possibility as I stuck with the Celexa too long.
470885 tn?1326329037 First, a GP is not an expert on ssris. Even most psychiatrists haven't a clue. Second, all ssris have withdrawal problems, and although it's true Celexa has been easier on the whole than, say, Paxil, or Effexor, if you go on withdrawal websites you'll still see plenty of severe withdrawal problems. He's put you on Prozac because it's a long-lasting ssri, whereas all the others are very short lived in the body; usually they'll use liquid Prozac so they can wean slowly.
Avatar f tn In January, my MD directed me on how to wean myself from Effexor XR...so I could begin a generic form of Celexa. My God. If this is what withdrawal is like, I am fortunate that I never abused drugs. Hot flashes and sweats; the zinging in my head that I've read others describing, crying, nausea. Happily, the drug-related constipation has ended. Dizzyness and then a BAD migraine - and a ride from work to the ER. I tapered off with weekly decreases...dropped to 150mg for one week...
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm on 150 welbutrin, I too have a headache, and dizzy. I'm also on celexa, trazadone, which was cut down when I started welbutrin. I had headaches when I started celexa, but as I got used to it they stopped. I kinda stagger when I walk. Maybe I'm getting older (60), but this didn't happen until I started welbutrin. Hope this helps. I feel much better tho.
Avatar f tn You are suffering what sounds to me like classic withdrawal symptoms of going off an ssri such as Celexa. When my psychiatrist switched me from Lexapro to Celexa, she still tapered me slowly off the Lexapro and slowly switched me over to the Celexa. Which is what your psychiatrist should have done, assuming you have a psychiatrist and aren't using a PCP -- they're clueless about these meds (so are most psychiatrists, but you at least have a fighting chance).
Avatar m tn My own experience is withdrawal can cause anything, but one of the side effects of being on Celexa is jaw clenching and other muscle tension. Odd it happens when you quit; happens to me when I'm on it.
