Celexa withdrawal brain zaps

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa withdrawal brain zaps

celexa

Avatar m tn What I would do is try taking a healthy dose of fish oil every day and see if it helps -- many people have reported this helps with the brain zaps. If the withdrawal eases, you're home free. If it gets worse or particularly if it turns emotional, I'd go back on the Paxil and taper off more slowly. But if it's just brain zaps and nothing else, I'd give it a couple days and try the fish oil.
Avatar n tn I went to a psychiatrist because I was occasionally having stage fright during musical performances. Instead of giving me beta blocker to take before performances, which is what I expected (and should have gotten), she diagnosed me as having generalized anxiety disorder and put me on low-dose Celexa (10 mg/day). I had horrible side effects (mostly gastrointestinal and sleep disturbances) but I kept with it as she indicated, for 6 months.
484508 tn?1290010544 Might be another solution. The brain zaps could indicate you are suffering withdrawal from the medication sooner than your next dose, given as with most ssris other than Prozac it has a short half-life in the body. You might try dividing the dose in two, that might leave enough in the system at all times to avoid this possibility. It's something you can try that wouldn't necessitate a higher dose, especially given the current dose seems to work for you other than the zaps.
1128565 tn?1316721143 nevermind my last comment about switching med i just red they already did which is a good choice. So yeah you will probably experience brain zaps which is like an electric shock sensation in the head also called brain shivers. I stopped taking Cymbalta (duloxetine 2 weeks ago and im still having them and they appeared 2 days after i stopped taking it) Cymbalta is a SNRI just like Effexor by the way and Effexor and Cymbalta are know to cause the worse brain zaps.
Avatar n tn i tapered very slowly and had horrible headaches and brain zaps that were very very scary. While tapering my doctor put me on 20 mg of prozac and I think that helped somewhat. but three months later im still having occasional brain zaps Are these symptoms going to be permanent? im afraid that the effexor has done damage to my brain.
Avatar n tn anxiety, brain zaps, feeling dizzy, nausea, intrusive thoughts and depression. Mind you, this anxiety is beyond what I experience. I also feel like I'm not "all there." My brain feels really slow. I was practicing yoga last night and forgot how to step into a lunge. How am i experiencing this after ONE WEEK of the med?! I was off of Effexor for 2 days before starting Cymbalta and that was giving me vicious withdrawals. I was on that for 6 weeks and felt like I was actually dying.
Avatar n tn Then cut one pill in half and took it every other day for a week, then every third day for 2 weeks, and now after a month I feel its safe to say that I took my last pill finally - yippee!!! Unless the brain zaps and nauseau get unbearable again. What I took to ease the pain of the brain zaps, nauseau and mood swings is this: Clonezepam .05 mg, B12 and Fish Oil supplements, and dark chocolate always heps me with mood swings.
Avatar m tn You brain is now used to the serotonin reuptake inhibition and you should stop very very slowly to avoid withdrawal symptoms such as brain zaps, irritability and dizziness. The wise thing to do is to work on a withdrawal schedule with your doctor and be clear with him that you want to stop and planning a baby and that you really want to stop. He will gradually reduce you dosage then frequency. Such withdrawal can be long so don't rush it if you want to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
1305767 tn?1361192676 I'm on 40 mg. of Citalopram and I haven't had it in two days because even though it's only 4 bucks at Walmart I don't even have 4 stinking dollars. The brain zaps are the worse plus I'm irritable and want to cry all the time.
Avatar n tn i have been on celexa for 2 years and weened off it and i am still having the shock feeling and fatigue and so on how long will this last?
484508 tn?1290010544 Hi & Welcome... What you are experiencing are typical withdrawal symptoms. I have not known anyone to go through physical symptoms after stopping weed but you have been smoking a long time and there are bound to be changes. The depression is especially typical. If it continues you may want to have a chat with your doctor. I suggest that you load up on vitamins and eat healthy to get your mind and body back. It never hurts and may just help you that much quicker.
Avatar n tn I am surprised your Doctor didnt tell you to not go cold turky they know what happens. They call the Elecrtic symptoms Brain Zaps it is like a shock isnt it and a whooshing kind of sound in your head. You will be okay soon, fill your head with positive thoughts and though its hard get on with your regular life.
Avatar n tn You certainly are not alone. I have experienced a sharp, sudden shock feeling. Almost like a jolt or a sudden sting in certain areas of the body. That is indeed one of the many symptoms of anxiety.
Avatar n tn I never knew how to describe what I was feeling till I read about brain zaps. They come and go, may have them one day and the next day they are gone. Had them for all ten years. Why do they come and go? and is their anything I should do?
Avatar f tn I did quit Cymbalta (duloxetine) which is an SNRI (i was gettin a norepinephrine reuptake inhibition as well as the serotonin reuptake inhibition, cold turkey about 2-3 months ago and I had withdrawal symptoms for 1 month. I had terrible brain zaps and I was less outgoing and more aggressive. The choice is yours, slow (months) and more comfortable (not that much tho) while tapering or maximum 1 month of it and be med free and symptoms free?
1042487 tn?1275279899 I'm suffering with the brain zaps after coming off of Lexapro. I tapered off the Lexapro, incrementally and very, very slow. The withdrawal symptoms didn't start right away with my last dose which fooled me into thinking I would miss that part. But, alas not to be. Anyway, it's been 28 days with the zaps, shakiness, and irritablility. I started taking Primrose Oil and doubling up on my fish oil (2000mgs) around 10 days ago.
Avatar m tn I can only tell you what my experience was. I had brain zaps when I went on effexor and then when I went off it they were terrible, lasting months. In my own opinion, I believe it is a type of damage the drug is doing to ones brain.
Avatar f tn How long have you been off of Effexor and did your taper? Brain zaps can be a withdrawal symptom of Effexor. That's why I was asking the questions.
Avatar f tn I don't know why you are getting these side effects but I can tell you I got off Lexapro about 3 weeks ago because of sexual side effects. I am now on wellbutrin xl and I feel great! I weened off the lexapro, a half a day for 1 week than a half every other day for one week.
Avatar n tn I was on Lexapro for about two or three years for mild panic attacks. It never helped, but it made me feel hyper and emotionally numb. Recently under a psychiatrist's supervision, I tapered off Lexapro from 20mg to 5mg over about eight weeks. He put me on 250mg Depakote to "balance" my moods "just in case"......I felt fine and stable the whole time.
Avatar f tn t go back on antidepressants - but am wondering what to call this - maybe brain zaps work. Equally, I am wondering how long THIS is going to happen.
Avatar n tn I am getting what seem to be Brain Zaps but have never taken medications...i have also not had any panic/anxiety attacks for quite some time. I even saw a nuerologist and had an MRI done and everything came back clear. it stopped for a while and not it's back...What other explanations could this be?
