Celexa with effexor

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa with effexor

celexa

Avatar f tn I take celexa and I love it. I have been taking for almost 8 years and it has worked beautifully for me. I take it at night as it does help with insomnia . I think you should do quite well on it.
Avatar m tn When I picked up the Effexor at my pharmacy the pharmacist was surprised that he prescribed me Effexor in combination with the Celexa, he said they are too similar and Welbutrin would have been a better choice because they would compliment each other rather than doubling up on similar meds that could cause saratonin syndrome. What are your opinions? Did the doctor made a bad choice? Has anyone here ever been on Celexa and Effexor at the same time?
Avatar n tn Effexor XR should NOT be stopped cold turkey! It can cause a very unpleasant discontinuation syndrome. Talk to your doctor about tapering. You could consider a cross-titration, in which you gradually decrease the Effexor XR while gradually increasing the Celexa.
Avatar f tn no, i went several months trying natural things like 5htp and omega oils. i do think it's much easier going from one antidepressant to another. i went from paxil to effexor with no problems, now i'm back on paxil. if you start the celexa then the withdrawal will probably go away. for me effexor was the worse antidepressant i've ever taken. if you take celexa i hope it works for you. take care.
Avatar n tn 5 mg for 3 wks. Then she switched me to Celexa 20 mg taking for one wk with Effexor and then Effexor every other day. The Effexor did curb my anxiety. Been on Celexa for 2wks now. A wk on its own.
11083698 tn?1415151204 m just wondering if I should stop taking the Effexor right off and start the Celexa or somehow wean myself off of the Effexor first?
Avatar m tn At the same time that this was switched, I was also taken off of Celexa (10mg daily) which was being used as an add-on treatment for the Effexor. We stopped the Celexa due to severe bruising and nose bleeds. Is it possible that I just having withdrawal from the Celexa or can it be the Generic Effexor. At this point in time I do not feel that I am incontrol and I do not feel "safe" being on my own. Any insight would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Please is there any Effexor users who have had a similar experience with good endings? Whether that be increasing, or changing etc... I need to know that I will find relief again!!! Please help!!!!!!! And thank you!!
603543 tn?1255294450 I have run the gamit of antidepressants starting with Paxil and ending with Effexor with a multitude in between. I had hormone test run, thyroid test and everything is ok. I'm 64 and can't find one that makes me feel any better. I cry alot, get angry and feel depressed. I know I have tried at least 6-7 drugs. What is going to make me feel better.
Avatar n tn t have any withdrawal effects and then start the Effexor, or, to keep going with your doc, cross your fingers, and hope the Effexor kicks in, this all stops, and the Effexor works, something else nobody will know until you've been on it for awhile.
1302779 tn?1287405029 Generic Effexor has worked very well for me, and I went on it for the same reason. Just explainto your doctor that you cannot afford the Cymbalta, he will know what generic is best for you. Best wishes!
1398259 tn?1280537573 Or it could be the stimulating effect of Effexor on norepinephrine has caught up with you. Who knows? Drugs are weird. But the adding of Celexa to it still sends a caution flag in my mind. Good luck, and if you don't trust your psychiatrist, get another.
Avatar n tn Hello, I'm in hell. I've been off of Effexor for 7 days now, at least. The withdrawal effects are beyond horrific. I feel extremely agitated and angry most of the time, hopeless, Like I should committ suicide so I don't put my family through the hell of having me in there life. I know these are not normal thoughts and I'm not going to kill myself I just need help.
656243 tn?1231288052 Hi everyone, so i have only been on effexor for three days after taking celexa for about a month. Yesterday was complete hell super depressed no appetite. I only ate a small aamount for dinner. Today was another story i finally got some sleep and woke up fairly ok. Then I decided to clean my house since I hadn't done it in a while. I was in a cleaning frenzy for about an hour then crashed now depressed again. WTF!
Avatar f tn This summer my ex-husband helped me to aquire another medication. Celexa which was given to me by th ER doctor. My regular doctor kept me on effexor, buspar, and celexa with ativan as needed. These were the medications that I've taken for roughly 7 months now. Went to my doctor for a prescription refill on my Effexor and now all of a sudden he WON'T fill it. I've GONE COLD TURKEY!!! I was able to find some 75 mg tablets of effexor but only 3 days. So here I come cold turkey!
Avatar f tn My moods still swing, but no where near as bad as they were with Celexa. Also, with the Celexa, my mood would swing towards bad mania, which is the worst part of the disorder for me.
1166402 tn?1303847056 I still have obsessive thoughts and feel the Celexa might not be doing anything for my anxiety. What about Effexor? I heard the withdrawals are bad? What about Buspar? Any luck with that drug?
Avatar f tn I will only add one thing to Ryan's otherwise very good post. People do have different reactions to different drugs, even to Celexa and Lexapro or Pristiq and Effexor. While it's true the companies are trying to keep a patented product in their lineup, Lexapro seems to have fewer side effects than Celexa, but many people do find one or the other works better. Same probably with Pristiq and Effexor. But to prescribe both at once is insane.
673186 tn?1225983925 I had a damn good 4 years of total effectiveness with Effexor XR. It has a more (pick you up) sort of property to it than many other medications. Skip the Cymbalta. Yes, it is also an SNRI like Effexor XR, but I and countless others have found it to be much less effective. There is a reason Effexor XR makes Weith 3.5 Billion per year...."Because it works." Effexor XR is the highest grossing AD medication of all time.
Avatar n tn I stopped taking Effexor then Celexa. I took Effexor for three to four years. The medication is too expensive so i asked my doctor to switch my medication to something cheaper. He switch me to Celexa. One thing lead to another I ran out of Celexa. I am so busy at work. I decided I did not have time for the doctor. So I stopped taking medications about three weeks ago. Well, I feel like I am losing it. Obviously this "losing it" feeling must be from going cold turkey.
Avatar n tn I stopped taking Effexor because it was so expensive and I don't have health insurance anymore. I also started taking Celexa and so far so good! Plus it is a lot cheaper!
Avatar n tn Yes I have taking Celexa for anxiety. Then my Dr. Switched me to Effexor. The Effexor works but I had to cancel my health insurance because I could no longer afford it, and I could no longer afford the Effexor. So my Dr. Put me back on the Celexa it is cheaper. You don't want to quit taking either one those medicines cold turkey, especially if you have anxiety.
Avatar m tn I took Effexor for almost a year and stopped it last May. I had slight problem with erection, when I stopped it. However, around a couple of Months from stopping, I had serious soft erection and still wondering if this is due to Effexor or the stress associated with my work, which increased a lot in the last two months or me masturbating 4-6 times a week.
Avatar f tn i have had generalized anxiety (severe) for 12 yrs. currently only on 5 mg of lexapro only because i couldn't get off the last 5mg. i take clonazepam which is the only thing that works, but every couple of years i hit a wall and need to up the antidepressant. been on zoloft, paxil, celexa, effexor, lyrica, cipralex(lexapro), maoi's, etc..wondering if pristiq works, or maybe cymbalta? only snri i was on was effexor, which didn't do much but also had a brutal psych.
Avatar f tn t know if this has any relevance to you or not. Lexapro is Celexa with some of it cut out, similar to what was later done with Effexor by coming up with Pristiq. Mainly, this allowed the manufacturer to get a new patent, though be now both Celexa and Lexapro are available in generic. But originally it was done to replace a drug with an expired patent with one that was enough different to get a new one.
Avatar n tn If you were put on Effexor for anxiety, I have to question your docs thinking. According to the forums pharmocology "guru" Ryan, being prescribed an antidepressant for anxiety is wrong, it will, apparently, in the long haul only make it worse. Conversly, he writes that being put on an anti-anxiety med for depression will only make THAT worse. Effexor is prescribed for depression which you state you do not have. So.....
